Enya pov
Many different scenarios played out in my head when I first opened my eyes. I thought the first person I'd see would be the Alpha Asshole himself, probably holding my hand and all the romantic crap you'd see in a bad romance movie. But none of my thoughts, assumptions, or even ideas came to fruition. I'm alone, not a soul around or bothering to check if I'm still alive. Well, I can't blame them- I wouldn't want to see someone who slaughtered so many of my family alive and well.
I try to get up from this damn bed, but something holds me back. After a few minutes of pointless struggle, my eyes finally fall on the straps encircling my wrists and torso. Great move, fuckheads. "I guess I'll have to wait," I whisper under my breath. I can wait and pretend patience is with me, but the problem is I need to pee. Really bad. If someone doesn'
Enya povSince the nurse came clean with everything that happened while I wasn't entirely present, many things changed. I learned that Aros had indeed become an Alpha, and Vincent had chosen to live in isolation from the rest of the pack. His decision wasn't based on shame over losing the title, nor anything to do with me, but on the fact that he needed time to himself. At least, that's what Aros told me.I agreed to stay in the pack, as Aros explained that he could protect me only if I stayed. Besides, since the fall of the Alliance, it's not like I have anywhere else to go. Everyone in the pack is way too friendly, and every time someone flashes me a smile, I feel guilty. For everything I've done, said, and thought of them without bothering to get to know the wonderful people I once considered to be monsters.
Enya povAs soon as I reach the border, my eyes scan the surroundings. At first glance, nothing seems out of place until something catches my attention. I'm not exactly at the spot. Not yet. I ran to the place the patrol discussed with Aros, not the place where those fuckers actually met Vincent. I know they took him; I can feel that he's in trouble. I have no idea how I know that, but it's enough that I do.Before anyone can catch up with me, I make my way to the spot that caught my attention earlier. As soon as I get close enough, the stench of metal hits my nose, and I know what it is- blood. My eyes take in the sight before me- at least thirty wolves and Vincent were here. I kneel down and sniff the soil. I run my fingertips over the paw print someone left behind. I've been taught how to track a wolf, how to take it down, and for once, my knowledge wi
Vincent povA large amount of water poured over me jolts me awake. I have no idea when or how I passed out, but if I know anything, it's that I'm chained to a goddamn wall. Now I understand how Enya felt.Someone's fist collides with my jaw, and as I spit out some blood, I wish the bastard would show his face. I'm getting out of here no matter what, and after this, every man involved in this shit should pray for his life. I won't let anyone get away when it's over."Wakey, wakey, Alpha," the same shithead who hit me speaks up. He laughs, and everyone else in the room immediately joins his example. I feel like I'm trapped at a shitty school party, and no other shifters besides the hyenas have decided to join in. Their laughter is disgusting. I'd rather listen to Aros whine than these
Enya povIt's a trap. I judge not only by the note but by how easy it is to get to this place. Although I needed to be by the cliff, I wouldn't make it easy for Diego to kill me. Instead, I followed the trail those idiots had left and found the underground bunker. So predictable, it hurts. I feel like history is repeating itself- I was in a situation like this once a few years ago. Just like then, two careless guards stand near the door. They're laughing at each other's jokes, which seems like a perfect excuse to attack now, but I know better. I'll strike when the time is right- they know I'm following them, they know I'll come alone, and right now, both men are pretending to pay no attention to their surroundings. I can see the sideways glances and the moments they turn their heads as they laugh.I let my eyes wander over the area. At th
Enya povAs Diego's lifeless body collapses at my feet, his words echo in my mind. "In a few hours, you'll find out what it's like to lose a mate." My eyes frantically search the hallway until they fall on the old, barely noticeable door. I run as if the building is on fire. When I open the door, I notice Vincent immediately. He doesn't react when I step closer- he's obviously drugged as his body seems limp. I search the room until I find the keys to the chains. As I free Vincent from the chains, his body falls on top of mine. Only then does he realize what has happened. His eyes meet mine and widen instantly. "This isn't how I imagined our first time," Vincent mutters, losing consciousness. Although the comment is ridiculous, I have to focus on how to get him back to the packhouse instead of laughing.
Aros pov"Do you understand that we can't let you out of this place? I mean, anyone else in my position would kill you if they were in a good mood. If I know anything about other Alphas, I can assure you that I'm still more than nice to you. Keep in mind that I'm doing this for your daughter and your daughter alone," I can't look at him. Everyone from the Alliance, especially the leaders, make me sick. Well, everyone except Enya. I asked her friend Emmy many questions, and she told me that almost everyone joined the Alliance because they wanted to. Enya was forced into the nightmare, Emmy had no say in it because a leader adopted her, and a few of the other leaders' children were innocent. To a certain extent, of course. Some grew up and decided to become just as monstrous as their fathers. The old man coughs and sits down. "I understand. An
Vincent povI've hated the stench of a hospital since I was young, so waking up in a hospital is not exactly a pleasant feeling. I try to rub my eyes, but someone quickly grabs my hand and hushes me. It's not Enya; no sparks fly at the touch. I wonder if she's around here, waiting for me to wake up. Speaking of which- how long I was out? It must be at least a couple of hours, but I feel more rested than ever. The last thing I remember is Enya's frantic face as she tried to find the keys to those damn chains, then I fell on top of her, and everything went black. She went there; she saved me."I'll get Alpha Aros here," someone whispers and leaves the room, but I still feel a presence near me."Can I h
Enya povI found a job. A real job, for the first time in my life. And I did it all by myself- no help from my father or others around. The day I killed Diego was the last time I held a gun. These days, I avoid picking up a knife unless I have to help the staff in the kitchen. At first, everything seemed complicated, but I figured out the system free humans have in no time. Their lives are so different from what I was used to; everything still seems a little surreal. My first stop was the hospital, and as it turned out, I couldn't get any help because I didn't have ID or health insurance, let alone money. Although I say I did everything myself- that's only partially true. At the hospital, I met an old lady who offered me a helping hand. She took me home, called her son over to get rid of the hunter's trap, and invited a friend who's a
