I say hello to the staff preparing the food and pour myself a cup of coffee. The chef asks me what I would like for breakfast, I let her know and she starts preparing the food as I walk to the far end of the kitchen table and take a seat.
Jay pours himself a cup and he joins me at the table. The room is deathly quiet because they are waiting for me to say something. I ignore them and Olive and enjoy my coffee. I don't want to be part of any game she has going on and by the look on Jay's face, he doesn't want to play it either. "Are you going to say hi to me?" She asks looking at me."Hi," I say after a long pause. I can feel Jay staring at me from the side of my face, He's probably waiting for me to curse her the hell out but I don't operate that way. I won't start a fight with her. And she's probably expecting me to start something too."How are you here?" Jay asks no longer able to hold it in."Crystal to"Are we doing this hike or not?" I ask Jay and Mathew when we get out of the car."I thought we were going back home," Mathew says looking at me from the other side of the car."I said we're not going home. We came to do this long and tedious hike." I say and Jay starts walking towards the starting point of the trail."You need to tell Shalom." He says as Mathew and I start walking towards him."She's going to freak and I don't want to her to get stressed," I say and Mathew sighs so deeply it echos in the silence."You have something to say?" I ask and he sighs again. "Using your words," I say and he shakes his head."You need to tell her. I can't imagine the shit load that will hit you when she finds out you are in the same house with your ex-fiance." He says and I sigh. I look at the trail ahead and frown."And that you lied to her about it," Mathew says and I know they are telling me the tr
At the end of the hike"Okay, this was worth that terrible walk up that mountain," Mathew says looking around at the magnificent view in front of us. There is greenery as far as the eye can see and the most breathtaking view of a lake. "This is incredible." She says and we smile."Yep," Jay says. "I am not a hiking guy but this is incredible." He adds and I nod."
"How was your day?" Shalom asks her voice filling my bedroom. I lie back on the bed and relax. We had an amazing day, I wasn't sure that the activities ay had lined up would be this entertaining. But we had a good time."It was great," I say smiling."Oh? What did you get up to?" She asks and I can already hear the smile in her voice."We took a hike. And it was breathtaking." I start to say and she makes an appreciative sound."Oh really?" She asks and I smile. She's surprised that I enjoyed the hike because she knows I hate hikes. She's been trying to get me to go on a few of them and I have been saying no. "What was so special about this one?" She asks like she heard my thoughts."There is a view at the top of a huge mountain and it was just incredible," I say in explanation and find myself wishing she was here. I know she would have loved it."It sounds amazing and what else did you get up
30 minutes later I find Olive sitting on chairs outside the house by the pool. I take a moment to look at the view outside the door. I through the threshold and she turns to smile at me."Did you want something?" I ask as I walk to one of the seats. I sit down on the opposite chair and look at her."Your boys don't want me here. Do you feel the same way?" She asks smiling at me."What do you want me to say, Olive?" I ask and she frowns. I shake my head at her reaction and she shrugs."I thought we could be civil. I know you and I will never get back together and I am not trying to get you into trouble with your..." She says and I look away."Okay," I say finally and smile."Okay." She says and then she moves over to sit next to me. "We can spend time together without it being weird right?" She asks and then she links her arm to mine."I don't see why you have to be so close to me," I say unlinking my
It's the night after Kane and Olive's conversation. The four of them are having dinner"I don't know why you don't like me anymore," Olive says looking at me and then across the table at Jay. I sigh because I don't like where this is going. Jay is already cranky about the fact that she's here. He's trying his best not to be mean to her and this line of conversation is going to make it very hard for him to stay that way.
"Look. I don't think we want to ruin a good evening. We should let this go. " Mathew says jumping in before Jay says anything. Mathew looks at Olive and she shakes her head at his comment."With all due respect Mathew I didn't ask for your opinion. I don't see why being honest will ruin anyone's evening. Maybe you don't like hearing the truth but I do. And I don't really care for your opinion anyway." She says and Mathew smiles
Later that nightI'm lying in bed my phone in hand and I'm staring at Shalom's beautiful face. I'mfeeling exhausted from this evening's conversation and I wish I was home with her and not here."I'm coming home in two days," I say to Shalom who is looking at me through the phone screen.
"What do I want from you?" Olive asks her voice getting loud again. She takes a few steps towards me. I raise my brows at her in question and she steps back and then she takes a calming breath. "I want you to show that I meant something to you once upon a time." She says her voice low. "I did care about you," I say and she groans out loud. The sound is not too loud but she made her point. "Kane you dropped me like trash the moment that girl showed up." She says sitting on the bed. I move to the door and look at her. "I loved you. I was there for you when you needed someone. I gave you everything. I was understanding, I was. And she..." She says and I shake my head. "And she gets benefit from all the hard work and time I put into..." "We were at school together. We were there for each other equally. You can't claim to be the only one who has put in work on our relationship." I say stopping her from continuing. I don't want to hear this. I know what she's going to say. She held my h
