I seriously cannot believe that I'm doing this. I mean agreeing to help heal someone else’s mate when I recently just lost mine last night, might be the most ridiculing and funny thing to happen to me right after the night that I got rejected. The universe must be happy to want to troll me again.
Or maybe I can just let Hunter's mate die so he can feel exactly what I'm feeling. I'm not supposed to be the only one to suffer like this. Who knows? The hurt might likely reduce if I get to share the misfortune, right? I don't even know if I'm walking right into a trap following him. I mean they could be the poachers here and I was being lied to the whole time. Anyway, since I still don't have any chains on my hands or feet for now, I think I can trust him. “Well, aren't we there yet? “We are almost there, please be patient with me” “Well, I don't have all day, Hunter,” I said rudely and rolled my eyes as if I had any urgent place to be, following Hunter to take me to his injured mate. Now about his wounded mate, to be sincere, I'm not really a healer, My Dad was the healer before I lost him to the cold hands of death from a hereditary sickness. My mom shortly followed after, not being able to live with the fact that her mate was gone. But I was able to acquire some skills on how to heal and save people from my Dad, so maybe that should be able to help save Hunter's injured mate, hopefully. “We are here” Hunter stopped in front of a certain door and I didn't even notice he had stopped, too busy looking around the hallway to find a way of escape while he was taking me to his mate. We almost headbutt into each other when he turned around to let me know we had reached if I hadn't been quick enough to pause in my tracks immediately. “Sorry…” I quickly apologized and covered up the slight feeling of embarrassment I felt with a short quirky chuckle to get rid of the strong feeling of awkwardness I felt when that happened with him. “Well, what are you waiting for? Open the door” I demanded, pointing at the door after the feeling of embarrassment was gone, and Hunter just kept staring at me like he was lost for a moment and actually forgot what to do too. “Yeah, right, sorry…” He forced a chuckle and a small smile followed as he apologized and opened the door to the supposed room his mate was in. “Well, Ladies first” He gestured for me to be the first one to enter the room. “Yeah, right, like I'm going to do that” I refused to be the first one to step into the room. If it's a trap, I'm certainly not walking right into it like that. “Sorry, but I'm afraid men will have to come first this time” I gestured for Hunter to be the first one to enter the room so he would be the one to fall victim to any trap inside. “Fine” He gave up, throwing his hands up as a sign of defeat when he saw that I was pretty intent on not stepping inside the room first before him. “Are you coming in now or not? It's totally safe inside here if that's what you are worried about. If I had wanted to harm you, you wouldn't have been sleeping on a bed when you woke up” Hunter said, turning around and even jumping on the floor of the room to prove to me that it was safe inside when I still refused to go in, even after he went inside the room first as I suggested. “Okay, looks kind of safe to me for now, I'm coming in” I looked at him with doubt but still went ahead to walk into the room. I calmed my nerves when I got inside the room and noticed that there seemed to be no traps inside for real. I think I'm the only one randomly getting worried over my safety when there might actually be no harm. Hunter seems like a real genuine person. I mean even if he had wanted to harm me, he would have to wait until I helped heal his wounded mate. So, I just need to figure out a way out of this place before I’m done taking care of his mate. “Where is she?” I asked about his mate straightaway and he ordered me to follow him. “Follow me, she's just right here over there” He pointed to a certain corner in the room and began to walk towards it but I didn't quickly follow, deciding to take the opportune chance to look around the room well and I figured it out to be some sort of an abandoned place. It was all dusty with cobwebs covering up the entire place and I had to remove them out of my way while following Hunter behind. It seems like an old abandoned place in the pack house from the looks of it, but my observation abruptly got cut short by Hunter's mate when we finally came to a stop, and he swiftly hurried over to her struggling to sit up on an old cranky bed she seemed to have been lying on before she must have noticed us coming in. She held the top of her shoulder which appeared to be badly wounded and bleeding. From the looks of it, I can tell that she's really weak, she seems to have lost a lot of blood as she doesn't seem to be healing at the moment too, so Hunter was certainly right about her being poisoned. “Hey, Skye, I thought I told you to lie down, you aren't supposed to be moving. The poison could get worse and you wouldn't be able to lift a finger next “ Hunter softly grabbed her and tried forcing her to lie on the bed. “I feel paralyzed when I'm lying down. I'm fine sitting up, I told you that a million times already, and what is she doing here? You know that she can't be here” His mate refused to lie on the bed and then asked about me when she seemed to have noticed me. She doesn't look that happy to see me. “I know that but she's only here to help” Hunter tried convincing her that I only came to help out. She seemed to have panicked a little when she saw me. “Help? What do you mean by that, how is she going to do that, Hunter?” Skye, as he called her gave me a doubtful look probably trying to understand how I'm supposed to help her. Yeah, I'm trying to understand the same thing too because the amount of blood she has lost is quite terrifying. “She's a healer, she can heal you so please let her. Is there anything you think that you can do?” Hunter decided to invite me to the conversation after it seemed like his mate wasn't going to stop with the questions and he was tired of it already. “Uh, I…I think I can do something” I didn't expect him to invite me to the conversation that quickly so I was left dumbfounded a little, but I swiftly shook my head to shake that feeling off to get to work. I could probably try doing one or two things to help stop the bleeding first. “Uhm…do you think you know what it is? The poison? Hunter asked, helping to stop the bleeding by pressing on the wound with a cloth. “I think so, I've seen this before, It's a miracle she's still alive, she has lost a lot of blood, and that cloth isn't really going to help. I would need some herb to stop the bleeding first and then….” I paused when I suddenly heard a hornlike sound being blown. “What is that?...” I asked out of curiosity and the look that Hunter gave me made me know that the horn blown was certainly not in his favor. “Sh*t, he's back already” He cursed under his breath and facepalmed. “Who’s back?” I questioned, not liking how shaken up Hunter was about the horn being blown and the person behind the reason why it was blown. “Alpha Gordon, his brother…” Skye chose to answer the question for me since Hunter seemed incapable of doing it at the moment. “Brother?...” I murmured, confused at first but then remembered that Hunter had mentioned him before while we were still in the doorless room. “I have to go welcome him, it seems like he came back victorious” Hunter prepared to leave right away and even took a step forward when I swiftly grabbed him by the arm, stopping him to ask. “Wait, where are you going? Where does that leave me? I told you I didn't sign up for this. I'm coming with you” I insisted on leaving with Hunter. I'm certainly not being left behind. He's probably going to want me to do more work when he's back. “No, you can't, you cannot follow me. Please just stay here with Skye, it's better to do that, I'll be right back” Hunter advised, but I still insisted on following him, refusing to let go of my grip on his arm. However, I swiftly did that in a flash when he told me how dangerous it was to follow him and it scared the life out of me. “Why? Why can't I come with you? “Because you can get killed, you are an enemy”“I’m an enemy?...” My brows furrowed with confusion and curiosity at the same time with the word ‘enemy’ ringing nonstop in my head like a ringtone. What exactly does Hunter mean by that? I mean, initially, I did think that I could be in enemy territory when I first opened my eyes and woke up from my slumber. However, if I'm an enemy, why the hell was I brought here? And why then is he leaving me with his mate and requesting my help at the same time too? You can't ask for help from an enemy and leave them alone with someone you love, right? Hunter must have a thing for easily trusting strangers and an enemy at that too I guess. “You can't be seen by him, he can't know that you are here. I'll explain better when I'm back, so please make sure to stay with Skye no matter what happens” These were Hunter's last words to me before departing and giving Skye a deep kiss on the top of her head. After he was gone, I slowly shifted my attention to her while she swiftly avoided it, as
“No, no, stop, let me go! Let go of me!” I yelled, struggling to set myself free from the strong grip of the stranger, forcefully dragging me through this big unidentified passageway to be taken to his Alpha. I hit on his arm severally for him to let go but he didn't even bulge as if it was tiny drops of rain beating on his skin. There were guards everywhere in this particular area, guarding the place thoroughly and none of them bothered to come between me and him to find out what was going on. I think the stranger must be among them because at one point we got stopped by one of the guards, who addressed him as Finn and asked why I was screaming to be freed like a goat about to be slaughtered. I was relieved, actually thinking a savior had come to my aid despite all the others who ignored my calling to be set free. However, he asked if he could join Finn in taking me to their Alpha as if there’s a special reward reserved somewhere and waiting for those who catch and bring in i
“I caught her lurking in the safehouse, Alpha. I don't know who she is but she's probably from one of the neighboring Packs who came here to loot our resources but got lost. I wanted to deal with her right away but decided to bring her to you since you came back victorious. I think we should use her as a scapegoat for the others to learn” Finn pointed, falsely accusing me in front of his Alpha even when I told him already that I wasn't a thief. It made me gulp hard because I was pretty helpless in this situation and the Alpha slowly starting to walk toward me didn't make any of the situation better. It's as if every single step he took made the earth tremble and I was frightened as hell, shivering in my shell while he kept approaching me. I couldn't say anything, being the culprit here. Anything I say can probably be used against me even when I’m never going to be tried in a court of law. My jaw dropped open a little and I swallowed again but it still didn't go down my throat
“I don't think I've ever seen her here but Alpha says to treat her nicely so we should handle her with care” “But why? Isn't she just like the rest of our healers? Why is she getting special treatment?” “The rest of our healers? Really Josephine? How many capable healers do we still have remaining out there? Most of them were wiped out during the death war, I don't think we should play with this God-given chance, and she's not receiving any special treatment. Let’s just assume she's a guest and we are treating her like one” “Ugh, whatever, I just don't get why we get to play the maids” I hear some voices speaking indistinctly and can feel the water being poured on my skin. It was so refreshing that I smiled and relaxed more comfortably in the tub to keep receiving the refreshing treatment. The people giving me a bath surely know how to work magic with their hands. The water is warm and the sweet scents of the lovely flowers added in the bath made it smell divine. It made me
Sitting alone with Hunter in the bathhouse, I'm silently trapped in complete guilt and shame, refusing to believe that he saw me naked. I was the one at fault and the stupid one for attempting to walk out of a bathroom without realizing that I had to put on some clothes first. Hunter himself seems to have noticed the awkwardness revolving around me and in the room too, so he kept himself at a good distance and didn't bring up the topic of what happened a few minutes ago. He shouldn't please, I would eventually cringe to death if he did. “Hey…you know I'm sorry for what happened, I didn't know…” And just when I thought that he wouldn't say anything, Hunter then decided that apologizing is much better than keeping quiet and pretending like nothing happened when that is exactly what I want to happen. “No, no, no, please, no, you don't have to do that, you don’t have to apologize” I swiftly chipped in, cutting him off immediately. He's only making the situation in the room more
I got dressed in proper clothes after I left the bathhouse and got a little touch of makeup on my face by some of their makeup artists. I even got my wavy brunette hair combed and styled perfectly. I'm dressed in such a noble way that I begin to think that I'm about to be handed this very important position in the Pack. It's as if I'm no longer the one who was accused hours ago of being a thief and now I'm being treated like some prime minister. “Where exactly are you taking me?” “Calm your horses, you are not being executed, you would be in rags if you were, you wouldn’t be dressed as a princess” Hunter made known to me while being my escort to go meet his brother. I refused to go without him after he let me know that I would be going alone. “Yeah, I think I like how so assuring that makes me” I pointed out sarcastically and grabbed the hem of my dress to be able to walk well. The dress is as heavy as a cow and weighs me down. I didn't even know where they got it and de
I stood dumbfounded, watching the Alpha walk away from me and move to a small distance to check on some of the crops he planted, after letting me know that he knew I was from an enemy Pack. My legs went numb and almost gave out, so I grabbed the hem of my dress and quickly went after him for him to explain to me what he meant by that. “Excuse me, please, for just a minute there, you said…” “For someone who can't remember where she came from, you look quite shocked to me now,” He said without looking at me, his gaze completely focused on his crops but I could feel his mockery overwhelming my presence. “Do you want to know why you are still breathing at this moment, despite being the only one lucky enough to escape my wrath on your Pack last night?” My brows furrowed at the question, not because I knew the answer to the question already, but thinking of the evil that this man possibly unleashed on Alexander's Pack last night, and how I was lucky enough to not fall victim b
“Get lost” were the last words the Alpha said before he decided to give me a little breathing space so I didn't pass out. He was so f**king close to my face that I couldn't even speak but just squeezed myself in, so I wouldn't provoke him to the extent that he wouldn't mind sparing me again despite being the last survivor of the Goldcrest Canine and Frostfang Warriors Pack. I walked away from the garden before eventually sprinting into a run, wanting to get as far away as I could from him. For a second, he scared me more than I used to fear being replaced by Sabrina. I mean he's a f**king psychopath and for killing all those people without showing anyone mercy. No, he's not ever going to able to recover from that, not even in a million years to come, especially for the innocent souls and the children that he killed. “Phew, that was crazy…” I stopped at one point to stabilize my breathing and then leaned against a wall, after sensing how far and safe I was from the Alpha. I sto
“Oh God” I clutched my chest, letting out a deep breath of relief. I was holding in my breath and waiting for her to announce some bad news so I could pass out immediately. “But not for today or tomorrow” “What?! Why?” I didn't see that coming, so was taken by surprise when Michelle suddenly announced that Hunter wasn't going to be able to use his vision today or tomorrow. How cruel is that? It's literally a punishment! “Because it wouldn't wear off until tomorrow, by exactly the same time that this Anita or whatever you called her threw him that powdered substance in his eyes. I'm sorry, Hunter” Michelle apologized to Hunter, and walked away to put the torchlight back from where she had first gotten it. “I'll be right back,” I said to Hunter, letting him go to ask Michelle questions. There's got to be something that she can do to relief him of this situation. I can't eave Hunter lying helplessly like that. “I’m sorry, Michelle, but I don't understand, there's got to be som
“Ah, ah, ah, not so fast, tell us what we want to know first and the key would be yours” Hunter pulled the key away from her reach, but kept teasing her with it.Anita gave up after she couldn't reach the key, making a sad face.“So?” Hunter lifted a brow in question. “You just don't know when to give up, Hunter, do you?” She scoffed in disgust, crossing her arms across her chest and slowly moving backward, away from the gate.I looked at Hunter and he looked at me, then shifted his gaze back on Anita to say.“I will right after you tell me what I want to know” “Fine, if you insist, I might just say it then” Anita rolled her eyes, giving up and in to us. I reached out to Hunter, touching him by the arm and he looked at me with hope the same way I looked at him. She's finally ready to talk after wasting enough time, which we would have likely used to have gotten to somewhere else by now.“Have a seat” Anita pointed at the chair, kept beside the wall a few metres away from the cell.
I think there's a punishment for when one refuses to accept an offer or a job brought to them by an Alpha, but I didn't care about that when I turned down the job from Gordon to be his personal healer. I mean for him to be the one to come down to my room himself to let me know he wanted me as his personal healer. I'm not able to tell now if it was just a job offer or if he was being desperate. To be sincere, I was tempted for a minute to accept the job but I felt better, rejecting it. I think accepting to be his personal healer has more to it than it sounded. He's literally going to turn me into a maid, yup, I think that's what was going to happen if I had said yes to him.I slammed the door shut after he left and was far gone so he wouldn't think I desposed him that much, with the way I slammed the door. “Be his personal healer?” I scoffed,“I think he must have been kidding” I moved away from the door and to the bed, where I sat and let out a deep breath.I clutched my chest and c
"I told you, there is no one more important to Al than Claudia!"As they continued to tease, he glanced down and swiftly messaged Victoria.'I don't need the umbrella anymore. Head home first.'Victoria was puzzled when she received the message. 'Did something happen?' she messaged back. She stared down at her phone for a long time, but there was no reply.Perhaps he was really busy. She decided to head back first."Wait."Someone suddenly called out to her from behind. She turned around to see two fashionable young women walking over to her.The taller woman glanced at her and disdainfully asked, "You're Victoria Selwyn?"Since hostility was painted all over that woman's face, Victoria did not hold back and briskly shot back, "You are?""My name is not important. What is important is the fact that Claudia is back. If you're smart, you'll get away from Alaric."Victoria's pupils shrank in astonishment. It had been so long since she last heard that name. So much time had passed that...
"How do I find the 'Ravened'? I don't even know where to start. I mean it's been 5 years since I left the council. I don't want anything to do with magic or the seed anymore. I don't even know the 'ravened'" Felix runs a hand on his head"."where on earth do I even start to find, I mean I gave up on magic years ago and now you appear on my doorstep telling me I have to find some 'Ravened' I don't even know. I have got a family now I don't need any danger near them" Felix said to freya, looking puzzled."The righteous seer Agnes gave a prophecy that another 'Ravened' lives but we don't know who the 'Ravened' is so I made up a lie in order to keep the Ravened safe wherever they were from the unrighteous, only the head and vice heads of the righteous witches council knows it's not a myth, the 'Ravened' is real it's a person but we don't know who"Freya blinks her eyes."That's why it is now up to you to find out who and keep them safe, the dark days are coming but…" She got cut short of w
"You have a fever?" His voice was gentle as he placed the back of a hand against her forehead. With his unexpected proximity, she jerked to the side. Nonetheless, he found humor in her response. "I'm only testing your temperature," he said.Dominic then turned around and pulled out a thermometer. "Let's get a reading of your temperature."Victoria accepted the thermometer."You know how to use it, right?" Alaric asked as he stood behind her.His question rendered her speechless. However, she chose to ignore him. What makes you believe I have no idea how to use a thermometer?Nevertheless, her movement was sluggish because she was so sick that her head spun.Once the thermometer was in place, Dominic told her to leave it there.Seeing that, Claudia seized the chance to introduce her friend to Alaric."Al, this is Dominic. I mentioned you to him before over the phone. He's an amazing doctor, but he loves his freedom so much that he decided to open a clinic instead when he returned. Domi
Still, she did not question it too much and asked the Cadogans' family driver to send her to the country club."You may head back first," she said to the driver upon arrival."Do I not need to wait for you, Mrs. Cadogan?"She paused for a moment before shaking her head. "It's fine. I'll wait to head home with Alaric."Since she was here for him, she would head home with him. With that, Carter, the driver, soon drove off.The rain had started as a drizzle, but it was now a heavy storm. With the umbrella held over her head, she walked to the entrance of the country club.It was a luxuriously decorated golf club. She was stopped at the door."I'm sorry, miss, but please show me your member card," the employee said. She took a moment to think about her next action before finally messaging Alaric.'I'm here. When are you done with work? I'll be waiting for you downstairs.'Once she was done, she stood near the entrance with the umbrella. As she stared at the rain, she thought about the pre
“Wow, what happened to you? I don't remember you being this romantic and also able to make those moves despite being blind” Skye teased, turning around as I spinned her again. This was our way of making up and I'm actually happy that she's playing along with it, and not wanting to argue further with me regarding my blindness.“Maybe, being blind isn't so bad after all since it turned me into Mr romantic” I winked at her and heard her giggle like a baby. “And I'm only blind, not paralyzed” I added, letting her know that.I don't know why everyone keeps thinking that I'm unable to move or do anything just because I'm blind. I can't believe I have to keep reminding them about that. Now, I can't wait for evening to come, so this can all end. She suddenly stopped dancing along with me, pausing to say. “I'm so sorry I didn't come to see you first when I arrived. I went over to see Kimberly, we had a little issue before I left with Luna and I went to fix that problem with her. I could hav
“I never doubted her in the first place, Hunter. I was only scared for you” I began to head back for the bed with a relived heart, seeing that Hunter's able to see again. “You are kind of making it sound like I was never going to recover from that. Duh, it's me, Kimberly. It's Hunter, I've survived worse. There's no way I wasn't going to get my vision back, this was just a mere phase which has passed” Hunter waved dismissively without him understanding my point just like he did in the morning too. But I'm not bringing that up again. “So, you've met with Skye?” I asked about Skye, changing the topic. “Yeah, about a couple of hours ago. It's actually crazy how they were going to be back today and they didn't mention it to anyone. I would have totally preferred it if they had stayed a few more days, I didn't want her to see me blind” Hunter pouted, coming to sit beside me on the bed. “Susan came over earlier to thank me for saving your brother's life. I don't think any of them wante
