Kathy sensed a shift in Dominic's tone, prompting her to furrow her brow and scrutinize him intently. He inhaled deeply and turned away to conceal his emotions from her gaze. Despite feeling unsettled, Kathy managed to utter a reluctant "Yes."

Even as Dominic had anticipated her response, hearing Kathy confess it herself felt like a brutal revelation, as if his heart had been laid bare.

"So, all those times I called you while intoxicated and you came to fetch me, was there an ulterior motive?" Dominic queried.
