Suddenly, there was a sharp knock at the door. Lifting her head from the paper, Elsie placed the letter on the bed, swung her legs off the bed, and headed towards the living room of her apartment. Her bare feet made soft slapping sounds on the floor as she moved.

Slipping into her flip-flops, she rushed to the door and opened it. Aiden stood there, holding a nylon bag with a large McDonald's sign written on it. He flashed a charming smile, his eyes crinkling at the corners.

She waved at him, offering a kind smile in return. "You're here," she said, her voice laced with a hint of excitement.

In truth, she had invited him over so they could read the letter together and maybe reduce the awkwardness that had become normal between them. The air was thick with unspoken words, and Elsie hoped that this moment would bring them closer together.
