Charles grinned, stretching out his arms to curl it around her waist, pulling her to his chest. Kate struggled to break free, but her laughter made it difficult for her to focus. He spun her around, holding her closer. “Got you. You’re not escaping from me ever”. Kate wrapped her arms around his neck. Her lips tilted into a smirk. “I don’t intend to”, she said and leaned in to kiss him. “I’m glad we’re here”, she admitted, snuggling into his chest and gazing at the setting sun. Watching the sunset with Charles like this had been her favorite hobby since they arrived - wrapped in his arms. “Me too, darling”, Charles murmured, pulling her closer. They stayed silently as the orange purple hue of the sky replaced by black starry night. “I wish we didn’t have to leave just yet”, Kate whispered in a sad tone. “Well, we could stay one more day”, Charles suggeste
“Whatever you want, darling”, Charles said, pressing a kiss to the crown of her head. Silence again. “Let’s leave the city “, Charles said suddenly. “To where?” Kate asked curiously. “Anywhere you want, baby. I can get the jet ready by tonight”. She’d go with him anywhere. Even to the end of the world if they had to. “I love you”, she blurted. Charles grinned, cupping her chin. “I know you do”, he whispered before kissing her softly on the lips. They pulled away, smiles on their faces. “I’ll go anywhere”, Kate said truthfully. “As long as we’re together”. “Do you want me to get the jet ready now, then?” Kate nodded. “I’d love that”. Charles smiled, pecked her on the lip and stood, phone at ear as he walked away. Kate turned her gaze back to the field. The sun about to set. After everything that happened, she needed a fresh start. A distraction. Peace. Maria had helped her pack her language. Then they drove to her parents house, she wanted to say goodby
YEARS AGO Kate opened her locker to grab a textbook as the next class would start soon. Her lips curved into a smile at the sight of a neatly folded white sheet. She glanced over her shoulders, before taking out to read what was written inside. “MEET ME AT OUR USUAL SPOT AFTER YOUR CLASS. I’VE GOT A SURPRISE FOR YOU. YOUR LOVE” It had to be Charles, she thought A blush crept up her cheek as she clutched the note to her chest. She quickly tucked it back into her locker, and closed it, just as the bell rang. Kate couldn’t focus in class, her eyes kept flicking to the clock, wanting the hands move faster. “Why couldn’t the time go any faster!” She groaned inwardly. Finally, the teacher’s voice broke through her daze. “That’ll be all for today, class”, The bell rang. Students cheered, some slamming the desk. Kate grinned, sprang up from her seat and dashed to the door. “Where are you going, Kate?! We’ve got to work on our project”, her friend, Anne yelled at her.
Kate stared out the window of the black sedan as it rolled to a stop in front of Andrew’s penthouse. She stepped out and headed for the door, not waiting for the driver. She wasn’t exactly a guest here. “Miss Cosgrove”, the housekeeper greeted at the door. “Mr Cain is in the living room”. Kate gave a polite smile and headed in the direction she’d guessed was the living room. It was her first time being there, yet everything felt oddly familiar. Had she come here in the past? Just as the housekeeper said. Andrew stood in the living room with his back to her. He turned at the sound of her steps, a wide smile spreading across his face. He walked towards her meeting her halfway. “Kate”, he beamed and pulled her into a hug. She hugged him back awkwardly. “Hey Andrew”, she said, as they pulled away. “C’mon”, he gently took her hand and led her to the three seater couch. “What can I get you?” He asked enthusiastically. “Water, juice or wine?
