Kira’s POV
"Well, well, well," a tiny feminine voice called out from within the darkness of the forest. My heart beats increased as it began pumping a lot of blood into my arteries due to how close the voice sounded to me.
My feet suddenly became cold and I moved my eyes in a circular motion around the length of the environs to see what it was that called out to me.
All I could see was darkness. Terrifying darkness that pierced into my soul. The light coming from the moon was not even that bright either as it was not a full moon. My ever-vibrant wolf, Ayla, became mute.
The dry leaves on the soil rustled noisily the moment I took a step backwards, initially scaring me.
"Don't move!" the voice called out to me again, but this time in a commandeering tone of voice . Her voice sounded so fierce that it made me shiver momentarily.
My sharp ears were able to pick up the squeaks from the rats in the forest. I could also smell a body.
'Human? A dead body?' Different questions popped out of my head.
"No, it can't be," I shook the thought out of my cloudy head as I stared into the darkness.
"What do you want from me?" I summoned the courage to ask the person in the dark.
But when they didn’t say a word, I gripped my sack bag to my chest, trying to keep it safe. The bag contained some of my belongings I will be needing for escaping.
The night was the only safest time to run away from this place; Away from this dangerous pack where I was treated as an outcast.
"Look who we have here," a voice called out from the darkness. This was different from the one I heard earlier. The voice was hoarse and throaty in a way that it sent shivers down my spine.
"If you are that bold. Show up! Why are you hiding behind the darkness?" I blurted out in sudden rage. I didn't know what kind of confidence came over me, but somehow I knew that it would have me killed.
In a twinkle of an eye, a strange but sort of familiar green eyes perched on my body. The eyes scanned my body and I wrapped my arms around my chest, hugging my sack bag tighter.
"Look what we have here," he came closer to me so that I could see him clearly. What I saw made my teeth grit. My body trembled on seeing the muscular 6 ft figure in front of me.
"Declan?" I asked again, blinking my eyes continuously at him. I couldn’t believe this; couldn’t believe he still had that signature hatred in his deep dark eyes.
"How did…did.. you…," I stuttered. My sack bag fell onto the ground as my hands shook vehemently.
"How did I find out?" He helped me complete my statement.
"Did you just ask me that?"he inquired and I held my breath for some seconds as his dangerous stare refused to leave my body.
"Declan…I can explain. I swear, I can explain," I muttered but he smirked and snapped his fingers. Then, a slender figure came out of the darkness. Her aura was so powerful that it almost pushed me back.
"Leila?" I asked. "I don't understand what is going on. Can someone please explain what is going on here?" I cried out.
Declan was the one I loved. The Alpha of the Blackstone pack who brutally made my life hell. He wasn’t exactly like this months ago, especially during our courtship.
He just simply changed towards me a few weeks after our wedding, after I had passed on the mantle of leadership to him.
I was the only surviving child of my parents who were the past Alpha and Luna, and I was only allowed into the throne after I had successfully gotten married to Declan.
I always wondered why he suddenly changed towards me. But did I stop loving him? I never did.
"I doubt if anyone can," Leila answered, playing with her fingers.
"This was supposed to be a secret, Leila," I bit my lips as tears rolled down my face. I couldn't believe what was happening. Leila knew everything about me. She knew what I was up to. She knew my next step. How on earth was she with Declan?
"For how long have you been lying to me, Kira?" his thunderous voice shook the forest and his strong hand gripped my tiny neck.
I struggled to breathe. My shaky hand moved to his fist as I tried taking his hands off me. But, he was more powerful than I was. My weak eyes were almost shutting up.
I tried looking at Leila and I noticed a thin smile across her red plump lips.
"You have so many charges against you and you know the consequences," he said in my face and squeezed my neck further.
I was almost passing out. I could feel it.
"De..De…clan…"
"Don't let my name come out of your filthy mouth, you fool," his anger blew up and a strong force pushed me backward until I hit my back on a tree.
After some seconds of weird silence, I managed to talk, ignoring the pains piercing through my body. "You betrayed me, Leila. I thought you were my best friend."
"The least you should trust is your best friend. Weren't you told?" she disclosed, a devilish smile appeared on her lips and her perfectly carved eyebrows furrowed at me in a way that was almost mockingly.
I have no clue what turn my life was going to take. I didn’t have anyone to run to, even my husband treated me like a slave… thus the reason I tried to escape.
I was starved of food and water. Hot iron was placed on my body and burning coal was placed on my tongue. All these while, my best friend was the only one who stood by me.
I can't believe she did this to me. I can't believe she revealed my plans to Alpha Declan.
"These are the charges against you and we have proof," Declan started and Ayla growled. Her sizzling rage was overpowering my soul and if I didn't control it, she would take over me completely.
My claws were already shooting out and it dug into the thick soil of the forest.
"You lied to the oldest elder about being pregnant," he dropped the first charge on me but I couldn't take it.
“Because I was actually pregnant!" I snapped in annoyance. I only lost my pregnancy after he had beaten me up until I bled.
"Any more word will make you regret your actions," Leila threw me a warning, but I ignored it. I tried getting up from the ground but my legs were too weak, they wouldn’t let me.
"A total of ten boxes filled with money and some filled with gold were stolen by you. We know where you hid them," Declan paused and I gasped.
"I didn't do any of this. I swear to the moon goddess that I didn't," I disagreed. “You’re all making this up, I know it!”
"The moon goddess bears no witness for someone who killed her own mother, Kira," Leila yelled, pointing a finger at me.
A sudden silence fell upon the forest. Declan hovered over me like a beast about to devour.
"I didn't kill her," I stressed my words so that it would sink into their skulls. "I didn't kill my mother."
"Murderer!" He spat at me with scorn written all over his face. "I will kill you and feed your body to the dogs."
The way he had said it made a sudden chill run down my spine. I shivered from fright… but what scared me the most was the thought of what he planned to do with me.
I was still bothered about what they planned to do with me that at first I didn’t notice when Leila walked up to me and said the most painful words I had ever heard. Nothing, not even the death of my parents pierced me this much. I felt my chest constrict in deep pain as she whispered in my ears.
"I hope you know your best friend and husband are lovers."
Kira's POVIt's been a month since the Blackstone pack got rid of its plotters, a month since Elizabeth died. Leila and Declan have since been locked up in the dungeon awaiting their trial. There was no need to hurry it up, it's not like they would ever get an escape from there. Their sentence would be judged based on their two times attempted murder and plotting against the throne. I wish them nothing but the best in their forthcoming trial. After the deed, Xander got to investigate on the fraud Elizabeth had engaged in while she ruled as the CEO of his father's company. It didn't take long before he got his rightful position back and took over his inheritance. I was thrilled for him, as for Mira, I had to have her released. She didn't really do much, even though she had kidnapped me. I didn't need to tell the pack council that. Uncle John kept to his promise and has been visiting from time to time. He and my mum seem to enjoy spending time together playing Scrabble. I'm glad she
Kira's POVXander didn't wait for me to explain further, he said he was on his way. I wanted to avoid making any hasty decisions without the key members of the pack. In less than thirty minutes, the large meeting room was filled up with every member of the pack council and Xander. “Why did you call a meeting all of a sudden, princess Kira?” Zeta Felix inquired.Asking for them to wait for me, I called in John to repeat his information about Elizabeth and the rest to them. Which he repeated without mincing a word. They couldn't doubt him, my father had ensured the pack members could trust the rogues with their words. Beta Mason scoffed, “how dare them even think of going up against us? Such audacity!” “What should we do now? Should we go after them?” Asked Felix.I sighed, turning towards John. “What do you advise we do uncle?” He shrugged, “there is much to do, I have no intention of taking my men on a fruitless journey. So, since you won't be crossing anybody's territory without
Kira's POVI feel like whatever it is that has brought uncle John to the pack house must be vital. Whatever it is I can only hope it would be of help to the course on the ground. The entire pack has been on high alert for the past week over the escape of the pack traitors. Knowing they wouldn't give up and might be planning something big against us. I have asked the zeta to engage in rigorous training with the soldiers. They need to be as prepared as possible. After lunch, John asked to have a word with my mum and me. Amber left reluctantly, I am sure she is just as keen to know what he has to say just like every one of us. Calling him into the study with my mum, we all settled on the couch waiting for him to speak. John cleared his throat, clasping his hands together. “I want to start by saying that this family means a lot to me, and I am not just saying this to sweet talk you. Kendrick made me understand that being different from the rest of the people doesn't mean you must be evil
Author's POVJohn got lost in thought as he drove towards the pack house. He couldn't seem to feel sorry for Elizabeth. She deserves whatever comes to her, he never would have thought that a time would come when he would be able to look her in the eyes without breaking down. John would have never imagined himself to be a lover. But then love knows no rogue or anyone else, as soon as your heart finds interest in someone. You are doomed and nothing else helps. He didn't get a chance at finding a mate, which implies he could choose any woman to be with. His treacherous heart had him fooled by Elizabeth, and he fell for her with no caution. For some reason known to her alone, Elizabeth comes to drink at the usual spot of the rogues. He had noticed her countless times, she would sit alone drink herself to stupor and somehow find her way home. The day he finally got the courage to approach her, she was still on her first bottle. That was how he got to know of her husband's maltreatment. Jo
Author's POVTaking another look at his wristwatch, Declan's heart remained unsettled as he thought about what would become of him is John refused to show up. It's almost noon, and he still hasn't caught a glimpse of him. His eyes continue to glance at his mother, who seems to be having a swell time mocking him. This might probably be the end of Declan ever trying to do things on his own if a flop occurs. Gripping the edge of his chair tightly, he exhaled. “Are we going to sit here all day waiting for no one to show up?” Elizabeth inquired. “It's not noon yet, Elizabeth. There is still plenty of time to be patient.” Leila chipped in, tired of Elizabeth gloating about her ability. Leila wants Declan to have enough control, which would put Elizabeth on the sideline and give her more power. She wished more than anyone that John would arrive and show his support to Declan. Standing up, she patted his back to comfort him. “What if he doesn't come?” He asked her. She shook her head, wh
Author's POVRunning as fast as his legs could carry him, Declan moved at the full speed of rage. When he got to the rogues' territory, he was beginning to feel fear at how tough the guards looked. Bracing himself, he walked towards them with a determined stride.“Where do you think you are going?” One of the guards said in a tough voice. Declan held his gaze, “I want to see your leader, John.”The guards stared at each other, laughing, one of them said. “you have got a lot of nerve to come in front of us and seek for our leader. Who are you?” “Tell him, I am Declan, the son of Elizabeth and the next Alpha of Blackstone pack. And I won't leave here until he talks to me.” They burst into another fit of laughter, wondering if he was crazy. Their laughter faded at the sight of his determined look. Whispering to one another, one of them ran into the pack to find their leader. John was seated in front of his cabin, enjoying the atmosphere, with the damsel next to him massaging his feet.
Author's POVDeclan clenched his fist hard, trying to suppress the anger inside of him. His wolf was the most furious, and he felt like jumping at someone. John had demeaned him with no regard, and his mother had sat there acting like it's nothing. His ego felt bruised, even if he hasn't done much, that doesn't make him weak. “I will make him regret ever talking down at me like that. Is this what you want, mum? For people to see me as a weakling and have no fear of calling me one. Thanks for birthing a fool like me!” He glared. Leila sighed, the room had been tensed since the leader of the rogue left. It was more tiring considering how angered Declan is. “Calm down, baby. There is no need to act fussy, what we need right now is to find a solution. It's obvious we can't give up now.” “You had better listen to your girlfriend, she appears more sensible than you are.” Elizabeth mocked him. Tears pricked at the back of Declan's eyes, as he stared hard at his mother. “I should have kno
Author's POVElizabeth had waited it out for two days before taking any step to be sure no one tailed them to their hiding place. For some reason, she had purchased the hideout during Declan's looming trial. Knowing it might come back to her, she had planned a means of escape. However, it did really save them In the end. She was seated in one of the cabins, with Leila and Declan looking tensed. The both of them couldn't seem to hold themselves up for a while as their fears and doubts were obvious. Elizabeth knew she wasn't going to back down soon, her promise to have Kendrick's family pay too wasn't fulfilled yet. Her eyes lingered on her wristwatch and the cabin entrance again. “How long are we going to seat here for?” Declan asked. “Who is this person you have been waiting for, for two days? You haven't said a word since we got out here, and no plans on how to get back our place in the pack. Are you sure you thought this through?” “Can you keep quiet, Declan? Shouldn't you be abl
Kira's POVXander and I entered the meeting hall to find a full room, my mum was there too. They all stood up to welcome me, I didn't realize I had that much relevance already. Bowing my head lightly, I sat in the reserved chair. “Good day everyone, thanks for honoring my invitation at such short notice.” I said to them. Beta Mason stood up, “this is the first time we would be having a general meeting with the apparent heir. And we couldn't just sit back without showing our faces.”I inhaled, looking towards Xander, who gave me an affirmative nod. “I don't know how to say this, but I will start by appreciating every one of you for standing by my father all this year's. We're still keeping the pack glued together despite his absence. Thank you. Today I have called you altogether, to save our pack. This has been going on for a long while, but I didn't see any reason to call onto anyone until there is some level of certainty.”The gathering murmured among themselves for a second, befor
