Reawakening Evil

A hooded figure made his way through the thickness of the forest, its large trees providing cover enough to shield him from view.

He made his way farther until he got to a place where three large stones met, he dug his hand into his large coat’s pocket and brought out a small circular, solid object. He placed it on top of one of the stones, the largest one, and immediately a building came into sight, digging through the Earth as it sprang up in full view.

The man’s eyes remained passive as he stared at the little building right before stepping in through the door, the doorway immediately lengthened to accommodate him.

Inside, a woman was seated in the dimly lit room, he frowned his face ever so slightly at the stench that hit his nostril, he still couldn’t get over the smell of this room.

“Good to see you.” The woman said staring at him, she was seated cross-legged on the floor, a small table in front of her that held a bowl with simmering purple liquid.

He stared at the bowl before settling himself on the floor too, opposite her.

“How much longer will the potion take?” He asked her, impatience in his tone.

She smiled at him, her mouth opening up to show a dark brown set of crooked teeth, he swallowed back bile.

“Be patient and…” Her body suddenly began to convulse, her eyes snapped shut and she held onto the table tighter for support.

He stared at the old witch speechlessly wondering if this was the end for her, it was a pity, he really needed his potion.

Her convulsions ceased just as suddenly as they started, and when her eyes opened, they were blazing red.

She stared at him sharply before letting out a cackle, a loud, long cackle.

“Darkness and destruction loom.” She said joyfully. “Evil has finally awoken.”

And her cackle continued, ringing out through the forest.

The first thing I felt when I came to consciousness was a searing headache that had me releasing a small groan of pain, and then emotions as strong as I’d never felt before - anger, pain, and hate.

I was in my room tucked in my bed and I sat up immediately recalling the memories of last night and decades before last night, before Alena was born. I raised my hands and stared at them through new eyes before rushing into the bathroom.

My eyes glowed at me back, red with fury. Damn the moon goddess to hell and back!

I stared at myself with disgust. “A werewolf?” I spat. “A fucking werewolf?”

I laughed humorlessly at the cruel joke, the gods and goddesses do have the sickest sense of humor, don’t they? Of all the species I could have been born as they decided upon werewolf and into the same pack as the ones who’d ruined my life. My hands shot forward sending a punch at the mirror, a loud noise reverberated as it crashed in the center against the wall that held it.

I stared at my distorted reflection in the broken mirror and smiled, I liked this one better.

“Eliana is back,” I whispered to it, blood dripping down my tightly wounded fist down my toilet’s sparkling white floor tiles.

I heard my bedroom door slam open and I dragged my legs back into it to see the worried face of the woman whose body had been a portal for me to make my way back to Earth.

“Alena,” She said, staring at my bloodied hand with horror.

I stared at her with all the hate I could muster before slowly making my way towards where she stood.

I recognized the fear in her eyes.

“Ho… honey…” She stuttered, taking a step back. “What’s wrong? What is happening to your eyes?”

I didn’t stop walking towards her, cornering her when her back hit the wall and there was no way for her to run. My loath was evident on my face. I wanted to grab this woman by the neck and haul her across the room, her body hitting the wall and coming down broken. I wanted to grab her by the neck and snap it.

“Bloody werewolf,” I spat.

“Alena, please baby, you’re scaring mom.” She pleaded pathetically, I’d always known they were pathetic, lowly species that tried too hard to pretend they were better than everyone else.

“Well you’re one of them now,” I heard a snarky voice say in my head and I paused, confusion replacing the previous emotion on my face. What the hell was that?

“Oh hey Alena,” The voice said again.

I stared at the woman opposite me angrily. “Why is there a voice in my head?” I screamed at her. “What have you done to me?”

She smiled shakily. “Calm down Alena, it's just your wolf, she's here now, she'll protect you, she's your best friend.”

“Wolf?” I yelled angrily. That still exist? That was going to go on?

“Oh yes Alena,” The voice replied. “You’re a werewolf now, remember?”

I wanted to crawl out of my skin, no, no I wanted to peel off my skin, slowly, with all of the pleasure in life, I wanted to peel it off and reach this wolf inside me and wring her neck until all the life escaped from her.

“You mean until all the life escapes from you?” She asked snarkily.

I shook my head, this couldn't be happening to me.

The woman slowly reached out a hand to me and I instinctively stepped back.

She swallowed. “It can be scary baby, after your fall last night, meeting your wolf the next morning is sure to be overwhelming but I promise you it's fine, she's here to protect you.”

I stared back at the woman, the sincere care in her tone pleasing me, she could be put to very good use.

I immediately fell into her arms crying.

“Oh mom, I'm scared, I'm so scared I have no idea what to do.”

She exhaled a breath of relief and stroked my hair lovingly. “I understand baby, I'm here now, you're fine.”

Rather than listen to her, I zoned out, my hand firmly placed on her arm and I waited and listened.

“I was terrified for a minute there, but I guess her wolf is one strong one, after all, I'm not surprised.” I heard her thoughts clear as mine.

My lips curled up into a wicked smile… I had not only gotten back my memories, my powers too had been restored.
