Damon watched with an expressionless face at the body that had been pulled up from the grave it had been previously buried in. He was almost unrecognizable, and from how bad he looked, Damon was guessing it must have been at least ten months since his death.

But the man being dead and buried was not his business, his concern was that the man was a vampire… Another one.

“What do you think happened?” He asked Alex and David who both stood at his sides.

“Likely had an altercation with someone,” David answered, peering at the body with a frown on his face, “these goddamn vampires sure make it feel like they're everywhere. We can't deny it anymore now, I believe there are quite a number of them in our pack.”

Alex said nothing, gritting his teeth.

“They are living freely,” Damon said looking straight ahead, he had a nagging at the back of his head that he couldn't quite make sense of yet.

“You have gone soft.” Alex finally said.

Damon looked at him with a raised brow.

“What do you mean?” Dav

Damon took in Helena’s worried look as soon as he stepped into the house and he felt his heart rate quicken.“What happened? Where is Alena?” He asked her.“She is still in bed, she hasn't eaten anything all day.” The older woman answered with a downcast look. His eyes glanced to the wall clock in the middle of the room, it was way past midday.“Bring up a meal.” He said before hurriedly climbing the stairs and heading off towards the bedroom. She was underneath the blanket, only the outline of her body was visible from how deeply she'd buried herself underneath. He reached her in a few strides and slightly pushed the blanket aside to reveal her face.“Alena, love,” He called softly. Her eyes fluttered open and she looked up at him with such pain and hurt in her eyes that he felt it too, all of the pain she was feeling and it was so horrendous. He wished he could take it away - every single pain she was feeling, if he could, he would and if he had to give up everything he had to do s

Amaro was an extremely tall and equally lanky man, his wide eyes were nervous and darted about the office as soon as he’d stepped in. Damon didn't feel like interrogating him anymore, his thoughts were solely on the woman upstairs. The physician had visited yesterday and had declared much to Helena’s disappointment that Alena was not with child. He had said she was exhausted and needed rest and good food, and in a few days she would be fine, but a new day was here and she wasn't doing fine.Damon watched David run a shaky hands on his face, he was obviously worried about her too and other than Alex, Damon didn't think either of them had any interest in the gambling house owner case for now.“Alpha,” Amaro greeted bowing. “I was told you came looking for me, and I am deeply honored. I apologize for my absence, I had been with my ill mother most of the day.”“It’s okay,” Damon said in a strained voice. “Sit,”The man nodded and sat down on the lone couch opposite the one David and Alex

Wide eyes looked up at me as I came down for breakfast, Damon shot up from his seat and hurriedly made his way to the foot of the stairs, reaching out a hand to help me.“I’m fine,” I said, ignoring his hand.I’d never known pain as emotional as I had felt would be so severe enough to cause me to become physically ill but I had experienced it first-hand and I never wanted to, it was giving my mother too much power over me.Now, I didn't care about anything or anyone. It was stifling here, and I didn't want to have to live with so many people anymore. There was nothing here for me and that is why in my sick bed, I’d made the decision to leave here, to leave everything and everyone behind and no one was spared.Damon said nothing and simply followed me to the table where we both settled down.“Serve her breakfast,” He said to Helena who nodded gleefully and immediately hurried off to the kitchen. His eyes searched mine. “Are you sure you are fine?” He asked.I nodded and kept my gaze on

I could only stare at the necklace and if looks could burn, the jewelry would've turned to ashes.“Alena,” He called in a warning tone.I looked up at him, his face had hardened and I could barely see any trace of the man who had spoken to me kindly outside just minutes ago. I knew Aria was a sore topic for him and he probably wasn't fully healed from her or ever would. It was one of those heartbreaks that you don't allow yourself to heal from, you simply just bury it somewhere deep in your heart and fling the key to it, refusing to allow even yourself to unlock the memories associated with it, saving yourself the pain but in this case, I had brought it up and I had angered him in a way I had no explanation for.“I’m sorry,” I muttered, I knew I shouldn't have gone through her things but most importantly, I shouldn't have allowed myself to get caught.“Sorry? I am not asking for your apologies Alena, I am asking why you did it!” He yelled.I cleared my throat and fiddled with my fing

I watched the pack’s courtroom proceedings with interested eyes, I’d never witnessed one before. The court was an open one with a bench for the noble blood of the pack while the ordinary werewolves stood around watching. The gambling house owner whose name I learned was Amaro stood at the center of everyone’s attraction, his hands and legs were in shackles and he swayed from where he stood. His eyes were swollen and his lips quivered, it was obvious he was scared.Damon stood at a higher stool and away from everyone, directly opposite Amaro and where he could see everyone clearly. His eyes were cold, and nothing about him said the lover I’d come to know, it was slightly unnerving. My eyes went through the crowd in search of someone but I didn't see her nor Sam - the two vampires I knew, it did them good to stay out of public gatherings like this one. From beside me, my mom squeezed my hand and I had no idea if she was calming herself or me.“Proceed,” Damon said, even his voice exuded

The days following the trial still held the buzz and excitement of it. People seemed to have nothing else to talk about, the gambling house was closed indefinitely and I wonder what might become of Adrianne.I felt like telling Damon what I knew about the vampires and Adrianne but it would bring up questions I was unable to answer and at this point, I wasn't ready to go through an explanation, and my and Damon's relationship wasn’t right in the least bit. We still spoke but only when necessary.I watched him come out of the bathroom, his hair was damp from the shower and a towel was tied to his waist. “I feel like we never get to hang out properly, you know?” Marina asked, turning to me.We made our way towards our favorite inn that served the best ribs in town. It was true what she said, I had gotten so busy with everything else, Marina and I barely had time to do the things she was used to us doing.“But I understand though,” She said, linking her arms with mine. “You are the Luna now and I can't expect things to be as they used to be before, you obviously have so much on your plate, and with everything that's been going on recently, I feel for you.”I simply smiled in response as we pushed the door open and stepped inside the inn. I was immediately aware of the eyes that followed my movement but I was already used to it.“How are you coping with it all? Why had I allowed David and Valinne to use me for so long before I got half the mind to escape? I was so disgusted by myself. If anything happened to him, it was because of me."Alena," He muttered."Yes, yes," I nodded. "I'm here and you're fine now. I promise I'm sorry. I wasted a lot of time being angry at him but I was going to compensate for that.I was going to love him for the rest of my life I let go of him and climbed the slab on the floor to help me reach where his hands were chained. Is he here?"I felt my eyes roll all the way back to my head and I wanted to leave him and continue with my search because I didn't have half the time to be standing around and chatting but I thought if there was anything, Alex would probably help find Damon.Especially now that it was proven that not he but David was the traitor. I wanted to feel sorry for accusing him wrongly and jumping to conclusions but I really was too exhausted to be bothered with such feelings so instead, I brought out the key I had stolen from the dungeon earlier during our squabble. It seemed like only one key unlocked all the locks of the cell rooms. I inserted the key into the lock and twisted it open."Hey!" Ad

He had only watched her with complete silence even though she tried to get him to talk, there was nothing for him to say to her.How stupid could he have been? Had he been so desperate for love, he had fallen madly for the first woman to give him attention and it didn't help that she looked like that. He had for so long been insecure about himself because of his scars and why wouldn't he be? Not after his true mate had rejected him.He still had the image of her in his mind - her long, thick blonde hair that cascaded down her back, almost reaching her waist, of her perfect skin and blue, bright eyes. She was an Alpha daughter and was his mate, his mate who had been horrified at the sight of him.It was why when Adrianne had given him attention, he had been taken by it, taken by her, and here they both were - he had just been a pawn in her game.It was his fault fo
