Naya’s POV
I have always hated the smell and looks of hospitals since I lost my mom in them about ten years ago.
Because of that, Dad made sure that the recuperation area in the pack's clinic was more like a stop-by inn.
It was plain, hardly reeked of medicine and you could see the beautiful scene outside from your bed.
The thought of him has my heart aching one more time. Since the last two years of his death, I have come to accept that there was no way I could move on.
Deal with the pain and accept it?
That was impossible.
He has always been an important part of my life for more than twenty three years.
And my only family for thirteen.
Although he always said he was happy that he was leaving me in the hands of someone who I loved and who loved me as much.
It still didn’t make the pain easier to deal with.
Sweeping through the empty hallways, I realise there’s no staff around to ask how Liam is doing.
Instead of going back, I drag myself to the male section of the clinic.
Despite the slight throbbing pain in my lower abdomen from the surgery, I still sweep through the entire ward in the male section, and as I realise that Liam is not in any of the rooms, panic begins to set in.
Where is he, and how could he not be here? Since he just got the transplant surgery, he should still be recuperating, right?
Or was it not successful?
As shifters, we healed faster than humans, but that didn’t mean that he could have recovered this fast.
“Elsie,” I call out softly, wondering why my wolf had yet to say anything since I woke up.
Finally, just as I was about to leave the male section, I saw one of the pack nurses.
“Loretta, have you seen Liam?” I asked quickly.
“You shouldn’t be here, Naya. Your body needs to rest…” Loretta starts, but I quickly cut her off.
“Have you seen Liam?” Despite not being born in our pack, Liam was the new Alpha, which meant that everyone here knew him and knew about our relationship.
“The both of you are so love-stricken; I saw him heading to the female section some while back. You must have missed each other,” she said with an eye roll.
Relief rushed through me, and I mumbled a quick thanks before dashing off.
Knowing that Liam had rushed to find me also made me more than eager to see him.
To see that he now had another chance at life.
However, when I get back to my room, Liam is not there. We had probably missed each other, so I tried to walk around the female ward.
“Mother, do you think that bitch would wake up?” I heard a familiar voice ask, her voice carrying into the hallway.
“Humph! I have told the nurses, she should be awake by tomorrow now that she doesn’t have her wolf. But I will end her measly life tonight.”
“Mother, thank you so much,” the other voice continued and then let out a soft sigh.
“Has the money for the kidney come in?”
“Hehe, you are always thinking about money. Those humans needed it desperately; of course, they sent the money. However, you have to stay here for at least two weeks, so Liam doesn’t suspect anything.”
My entire body is frozen in space.
I know that voice. Or rather, those voices.
And their words sound so… was coincidental the right word?
I don’t realise that I have dragged myself forward until I’m inside, and the two women in the room look up to meet my gaze.
Sophie’s eyes widened as she saw me, and then she sat up hurriedly on the bed.
“N…Naya. What are you doing here?”
I held the door for support, as I wasn’t sure that I wouldn't lose my balance with everything I had just heard.
“Repeat everything you just said.”
Before she can say anything, the woman by the side of the bed stands up, her eyes flashing with anger.
“Who do you think you are to talk to Sophie like that? Do you think that she’s still your dog and would always listen to anything you say?” Mrs Wilson yelled, and for a second, I didn’t know what to think or say.
Sophie had been my best friend for more than twenty years. After Mom died, Mrs. Wilson was nothing but sweet.
At a point, Sophie and I had even tried to pair her up with Dad so she could become my mother, too.
However, Dad had vowed not to love anyone else. But right now, with her eyes glaring daggers at me, I can’t even tell what’s real anymore.
“She has never been my dog, everything you said just now. Say it again.”
Mrs Wilson is about to speak when Sophie grabs her hands.
“Mom, let me talk.”
Sophie glances back at me and in that moment, it felt like she had become another person entirely.
Her gaze is sharp and fierce. More importantly, she looks at me like I’m no different from a stranger.
Like we hadn’t spent twenty years knowing everything about each other.
“So you think because the moon goddess blessed you with the purest wolf, you can have everything you want in the world, huh?”
“Do you know that the first time Liam came to the company, I had met him first…” Sophie paused, her eyes getting colder.
“I had even showed him around the entire place. Yet, the moment you met him, you had to do the same thing you have always done.”
“You took him from me, you bitch!” Her last words come out in a snarl, and I’m even surprised as she throws the flask beside her at me.
I used the door to push the flask just before it could hit me.
“If you wanted him, why didn’t you say anything?”
Liam had chased me for more than two years before I finally gave in. If I had the slightest idea that she was interested in…
Sophie’s scoff pulls me out of my thoughts.
“And you think I didn’t try? Do you know how many nights he took my body in the dark but ignored me during the day just because he wanted to be with you?”
“To be with the golden daughter that the moon goddess blessed?”
My body trembles as I process her words.
Liam, my husband, had slept with Sophie?
As though guessing my thoughts, Sophie sneered while my fists clenched tightly.
“Oh, did you think that he was loyal to you? Even before you gave him your first time, I had gotten an abortion for Liam.”
“He even tells me that you are boring in bed and rushes to me every night.”
It hurts.
Breathing is so hard that it feels like any moment from now, my heart will lose the sole purpose that it was made for.
“Naya, why do you think Liam came late on your wedding day?”
No… no… that’s not possible. There’s no way.
Mrs Wilson chuckles, the sound carrying to my ears as I bend over, trying to get some air into my lungs.
“At the end of the day, my daughter won.”
Naya’s POVI might have pinched myself a little more than ten times in the last minutes. It suddenly seemed like my entire life was falling apart, and as I finally gained the strength to stand up, a familiar scent flooded my nostrils. In seconds, Liam’s familiar figure rushes through the door, only that, he doesn’t stop. He probably didn’t even see me there, and I watched from where I stood by the door as my husband rushed towards Sophie. Sophie no longer had the fierce and aggressive demeanour from earlier. Instead, she has this frail and lost look in her eyes that reminds me of the many times that she asked me for a favour. But what is even more baffling is Liam. He looked nothing like someone who just got a transplant. “L…Liam… I told you that Naya would be angry as soon as she finds out,” Sophie says weakly and then burst into tears.Liam finally glances at my side, our eyes meeting. But it’s not him that’s staring at me. The Liam I knew, the Liam I married, always looked
Naya’s POVI wonder if I get to meet with Selene. Would I be angry at her for making me the chosen one? Or would she be angry that I couldn’t do the sole thing that she chose me for?To protect her people. When all the swirling and turning finally stopped, I pried my eyes open.Shock rushes through me as I take in the sight before me. The scene before me is nothing like what I expect the afterlife to look at. Instead, it was a scene that I knew too well. Remembered too well. Was the moon goddess trying to remind me of the day that I had made the worst mistake of my life? Of the day that I said yes to the monster that had taken everything from me?As I stare in the mirror, staring at the wedding dress from that day, my fists clench tightly.Wait…“How do I still have my body?”“I was wondering when you were going to realise it, silly,” Elisa’s familiar voice rang out, and I froze.“Lisa!” “What’s going on?” “We seem to be back in time, only that I don’t remember anything else f
Naya’s POV‘Elisa!’Having a wolf that was as strong as Elisa was the envy of everyone. An envy that I had known for twenty-five years before my first life ended. But none of them knew the disadvantages. Despite being my wolf, Elisa could take over my body while I was in human form. And she always did it at the worst timing. Like right now. I gulp as the man’s eyes fall on me; his blue eyes are clear and bright. So clear that they want to pull me in. Yet, there’s a chilling coldness in them that makes me want to stay away. And even as a shifter, I feel like he could be a threat to me. Was this man human? And if he wasn’t, why couldn’t I smell his wolf on him? “You need a groom?” He finally asked.I take a deep breath while trying to find the most logical explanation for what just happened. Yet, in that moment, the struggle for control between Elisa and me is even stronger. Like always, she wins.“Yes, I need a groom.” The man gives me another piercing stare that seems to go o
Liam's POV“Take it easy, Liam. It's nobody's fault,” Sophie says as she gets down from her car and walks to me.I slap a palm onto my face. “Then explain to me, Sophie. You've been designing for more than four years now. Why did you make a dress that is easy to tear?”“I told you to keep your feelings out of this. I told you!”Her eyes widen as she stares at me with surprise. My angry side is something she hasn't witnessed personally.“I didn't make any underhand design,” she argues. “The material, the pattern… all of it was in perfect condition before I handed it over.”“And then it ripped apart while she was coming down from the taxi. Fuck, I should have known something like this would happen,” I rant.I pick up a glass of water and take a gulp. Shouting for the past twenty minutes has really turned my throat sore.“You know what, Sophie? Saturday. You will make another wedding dress before Saturday. Do you understand?”“Darling,” she purrs, resting a palm on my chest, “you're soun
Naya’ POVA magnificent mansion is a few meters away from us. From the distance, it beams of royalty and wealth. Completely different from anything I had seen.“This is yours?” I intentionally ask Rowan who has just shown me that he can stay thirty minutes in a vehicle without saying a word to his spouse.“Yes.”That is all he can say.I sigh softly and manage a smile. “It’s gorgeous.”“Just like you,” he blurts out. It's a beautiful compliment, but it's so plain cause he doesn't even look at me when he says it.I manage to put on another smile. “Thank you.”Some minutes later, our car parks in front of the mansion and Henry rushes out to get the door for me and Rowan afterwards. He whispers something to Rowan and he nods in agreement to whatever it is.Rowan walks up to me and hangs his arm open.“Hold me,” he orders and I do that immediately. We are a newly wedded couple, so it's only natural that we act like one. But it seems a bit weird. The moment Henry opens the door for us to
Chapter 7Naya's POVI wake up and the party music is still blowing downstairs.I glance around the room but there's no sign of Rowan anywhere. I assume he hasn't returned since when he left the room. It's thirty minutes past ten when I look at my wristwatch and it dawns on me that I didn't tell anyone I was going to sleep outside.I look at my phone and my eyes are torn when I see forty missed calls and fifteen text messages. Twenty-two of the calls are from Jake and the rest from mum and Liam.I heave off a sigh and tuck the phone back into my pocket. I'll think of anything excuse to give them tomorrow. My eyes meet Rowan's wardrobe open and I curiously make up my mind to check out the kind of cloths he wears. One by one, I flip through the line up of cloths. All of them are made from rich, expensive fabrics, and have this exquisite scent that make me believe he has nice taste for perfumes.Right beside the wardrobe, there's a big mirror which is the same height as the wardrobe. I d
Chapter 8Naya's POVIt's Monday and the talk of the day is my cancelled marriage. I'm not surprised because I invited ninety percent of our workers.I go to my office and begin to work on the dress which I have left hanging for over one week.Flora pops out from her own cubicle and waves a playful hand at me. “Hey, damsel!”Her blonde hair cascades over her fine dimples as she smiles. She's everyone's favourite and a cheerful person.“Girl, you know I was down for some serious after-wedding party,” she tells me and I stiffen.I'm about to respond before I hear someone call out, “her lover boy is here.”Liam? No, it's Jake. My adorable sweet thing. He's with a brown paper bag which I know definitely has something in it for me.His bike is parked at the lot and he throws fast steps as he walks in, greeting everyone while his eyes are scouting for me.“Over here!” Flora waves at him.“Poor thing. Such a pity she doesn't plan to marry him,” I hear someone mutter and I curse my extremely
Chapter 9Liam's POVIt's going to take longer than I promised the boss. What has gotten into that Naya of a bitch? What the fuck does she mean by what happened last week being a bad omen?I smash the mirror hanging on my bathroom wall. “Fuck!”“Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!”There's blood all over the floor. My own blood. My mind is already overwhelmed with the frustration that is coming with this supposed-to-be simple task. I can't even feel the pain in my bruised knuckles. It's already healing and will be done in a few minutes. What won't be done in a few minutes is my stupid mission.“You're leaving me no choice!” I scream as I walk out from the bathroom to the bedroom. I need to get dressed. I need some tequila and some good sex. Then I can decide the next measure to apply, since Naya has decided to prove stubborn.I'm at the club about thirty minutes later. Two strippers are massaging my shoulders as I sit in the VIP section, downing a bottle of tequila. My phone buzzes and I pray i
ROWAN Jessica handed the phone over to me with shaking hands. "I....I called him. He told me that he's going to be here soon. Are you happy now?" Jessica asked me. I nodded my head. "Yes. I am very happy. You know ...you really didn't need to do all of this. You should have just left Naya alone!" I told Jessica. "You....you have no idea how much I love you! Despite how many times you trample on the feelings that I have for you, I refuse to care about it. I just want to be with you. And yet you treat me like this! You even dared to kidnap me! Let me just make it clear to you, Rowan. You are never going to get Naya back. You are going to find out that you're making a big mistake. The King will never let you take the only person who can save the life of his daughter!" Jessica told me.I rolled my eyes at her. "Do you really think that I care about whoever you are working for? It's none of my busines, and it would have been great as long as you had left my wife out of it. You only h
NAYA I lay on the bed weakly as I watched my blood being made into an antidote for the so called princess. She had looked weak when she first walked in, but now that she had taken the antidote, she looked a whole lot better. The princess smiled at Liam. "Thank you so much for saving my life, Liam. I really don't know what I would have done without you. If it wasn't for your efforts all of these years, I am sure that I would have died a long time ago. I am really really happy that I have you in my life!" She said.I wanted to throw up when I heard this. I had never felt this disgusted in my life before. Liam had a sweet smile on his face, and he looked like he was happy to be doing this. I was shaking in anger as I watched him. How dare this person?! He was using my blood to appease someone else! I noticed that Liam had never looked at me the way that he was looking at the princess. He had never been nice to me. I was sure that he did not treat even Sophie in this way. Was this
ROWAN"Are you sure that she is in here?" I turned to ask Sophie. We were standing in front of a house that was in the middle of nowhere. It was an old neighborhood and I was sure that they were less than ten people who lived here. The people who lived here were also probably extremely old and so even if anything had been going on, I was sure that they won't have been able to notice. Sophie nodded her head"Yes. Do you think that I am lying? I did what you asked me to do. I followed him and this was where he came to," Sophie said. I glanced at Henry and he walked with me into the house. I was about to walk in when Sophie grabbed my arm. "Hey where do you think you are going? We aren't done talking here. You said that you are going to pay me a hundred thousand dollars as long as I got the information on where she lived for you. I did that. When are you paying me?" Sophie asked me. "We haven't found Naya yet. As soon as we find her, I am going to give you your money!" I told her f
NAYA The door was pushed open and my eyes flew open immediately. "Who is there? Jessica? You are back? Let me out of here. Let me go as soon as possible. You are not going to get away with doing this. You are going to regret ever don't this to me. Let me go if you know what's good for you!" I snapped at her. When she didn't reply me, I continued. "Rowan is going to find you, and he is going to make sure that you pay for doing this to me. Don't think that you can get away with this. Even if you keep me here for the rest of my life or even kill me, he's never going to look at you. He doesn't love you. Why is it so hard for you to understand that? I am the one that he loves! Only me!" I stated. "Oh really? You are the only one that Rowan loves? Are you sure about that? Are you really so confident about his feelings for you?" I heard a familiar voice ask me just then. I would recognize that voice even if I was dead. The voice that had haunted me in both lifetimes..Liam! Liam was he
LIAM"What? You went out to meet with him? Are you stupid?!" I yelled at Jessica over the phone. "Well, Rowan called me and he told me that he wanted to see me. He even booked a table at a restaurant. I thought that he had come back to his senses and he had seen that I was the better choice for him. But when I got there, all he did was talk about Naya. I think he knows that I am the one who kidnapped her, but he doesn't have any proof at all. He even knows that I met with yon. What am I going to do?" Jessica asked me. She sounded like she was panicking. .I just rolled my eyes. I had no idea why I was surrounded by all of these dumb women. I thought that Sophie was the worst that I would have to deal with and that since Jessica worked for the King, she would be smart at least. But once it involved the man that she was interested in, she had no brains. She was just so fucking stupid! "Do you really think that he'd come running back to your arms a day after Naya went missing? You
ROWAN "Are you sure that Jessica is working for the Alpha? If she's the one working for him then...it means that she's the one who has been spying on us. When she came here and said that she wanted to take care of you that time ..it was because she wanted to spy on you," Henry said to me. Sophie was gone now. It didn't take much for me to persuade her to find out where Liam had taken Naya. "Yes. I am sure of it. She's definitely working for that person. She has been working for him for a really long time, I am sure. If Liam is talking to her about him then it means that they both know him," I said."Then what are you going to do now? Are you sure that it's a good idea to meet with her? I don't think that she's going to give anything away if she's really working for him," Henry said. I shook my head. "I have to try. I know that she won't tell me the truth but I have to meet her and ask her and see if she's going to let anything slip. I asked Sophie to find out from Liam where Naya
ROWAN"I don't deny that she was good to me while we were best friends, but how am I supposed to make a living if I don't have any money? I can't take chances, Rowan. I need to survive. You will never know how hard it is for me to survive. I don't want to beat around the bush with you. So are you going to give me the money or not?" She asked me. "Fine. I will give it to you. And don't think about playing tricks with me, Sophie. Because there are many ways I can get this money back from you. And I don't think that you are going to survive what I do to get the money back if you play me," I warned her. "Don't worry about it, Rowan. I may be a terrible person but I am very honest when it comes to doing business. Besides, I don't want to die. I need to be alive to spend the money," she stated. I brought out my bank book and I wrote her a cheque. Sophie snatched it away from me. She gasped when she saw the price that was written on it. They were literally dollar signs falling out of h
ROWANI turned to Henry. "What do you mean you still can't find her? It's not as if she disappeared off the face of the Earth? Why can't you find her?" I yelled at him. A whole day had passed since Naya had not returned home. At first, Henry had said that she was going out to meet a friend, but then she didn't come back yesterday and we still can't find her today. I was really worried now. Had Liam gotten to her? Did he kidnap her all because of her blood? "Did you find out what Liam did yesterday?" I asked Henry. He nodded his head. "Yes. The person that we had watching him said that he didn't leave his house much yesterday. He went out to meet with the Alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack but that was just it. He didn't go anywhere else and he came back home immediately. I don't think he has anything to do with this," Henry said. I sneered at him. "Are you stupid?! Even if he didn't do anything, then he must have had someone do it for him! He must have told someone to kidnap her!
SOPHIEI gasped when I heard this. Was Liam saying that they had kidnapped Naya? I had no idea who that Jessica person was but from Liam's words, they had worked together to kidnap Naya. Liam ended the call and he burst out laughing. I quickly shut the door and started to pace around the bedroom, thinking of what to do. I did not want Liam to know that I had heard what he was talking about. I knew that he was an extremely cold man and if he taught that I knew a secret then he was going to do something to hurt me. I didn't want to die in Liam's hands. I just wanted to be able to survive. Just then the door was pushed open and Liam walked in. I turned to face him and we came face to face with each other. There was a menacing look on his face when he saw me and he looked like he wanted to just triangle it to death and be done with it "What the heck are you doing here Sophie? I thought I have told you that I don't want to see you in my house? and how were you even able to get in
