Four

Anika’s POV

I was coming back from my best friend, Amy’s house, just adjacent to my father’s house when I overheard my parents, the Alpha, and the Luna of our pack arguing.

I have never heard them argue all my 18 years of life. They were the best couple and I've always wished to have a marriage like theirs.

They were my role models and also my parents.

“I can't allow my daughter to be married to that heartless and horrible man even if he is her mate, ” I heard my mother's voice coming from their room.

Did they find my mate? Happiness burst in my chest at the realization but I quickly controlled myself.

“Maria, you can't be unreasonable like this, we have no choice. He is the Alpha King. We do not have a damn choice. His wish is the law, ” My father drawled, extremely pissed.

Immediately after I heard his response, I didn't know how I ran out of the Alpha’s house.

My father’s voice boomed behind me but I was too shocked and frightened to go back.

I shifted into my wolf form and galloped into the woods.

I won't come back, I told myself.

I won't come back till I hear that I won't have to marry that horrible old grumpy Alpha.

The Alpha King Reagan Adolph is a man known by a few but feared by many because of the ruthless way he kills on the battlefield and also how he unfeeling makes harsh decisions.

It was also rumored that he has different girls circling and warming his bed.

Even if he is my mate, I will reject him!

I galloped faster, ideas on how to escape my sudden marriage formed in my head as my paws left the thick woods and started running on the lone road.

I wasn't aware that I had changed path until I collided with a carriage on the road.

Bam!

I immediately left my hind leg shifted. I stumbled with a groan and I fell flatly on my face.

“I think something pumped into us, ”

I heard a man's voice coming out of the carriage, I immediately felt my eyes swell up with tears. What a miserable day.

“Go and check what's going on, ” I heard another voice reply but this time the voice was a calm and authoritative one. It seems he was the master of the former one.

I was able to deduce this due to many years of being an Alpha’s daughter.

Immediately after the man got down, I instantly pretended that I'm dead.

Maybe they will leave me alone and go on their way.

But it seems that wasn't the case because after the man came down and inspected for 2 minutes, another man also came down from the carriage.

What are they doing? I was curious but I didn’t dare open my eyes because I was faking death, you know.

“Did you think she's dead?” I heard the calm and authoritative voice again.

I was intrigued to open my eyes to see the facial features of someone whose voice was as clear as ocean and authoritative like an Alpha but I didn't.

“I don’t think so, we were not going at a fast pace, so she shouldn't have been that hurt.”

I could hear their conversation but I still kept my eyes open until I felt someone checking my pulse trying to check my pulse.

My eyes sprang open immediately and I howled.

“You are not dead?” I heard a tall, brawny man say. I directly figured out that he was the first voice while the tall, devilishly handsome man beside him was the second voice.

I nodded my head slowly as I looked at them with tears in my eyes. That was when I knew that they weren't traveling alone as some other people were already arriving to check what's going on.

“Dolphus, go back with the rest. You will be traveling with them for now, ” I heard Mr. Clear and authoritative voice order.

I couldn't help but nod again and again at how handsome and good-looking he was. His facial features really didn't do justice to his voice.

“Can you shift?” He asked, tearing a piece out of his expensive clothes and wrapping it in on my injured hind leg.

I nodded and immediately shifted back to my human form.

I didn't expect him to remove his coat and quickly wrap it around my naked body as he carried me in a bride style back to his carriage.

“Hello, pretty white wolf, what is your name?” Mr. Clear and authoritative voice asked me.

At first I wanted to give a fake name because I was running away from home. But when I remembered that they were travelers, and we won't meet again after today, I decided to tell him my real name.

“I’m Anika but my friends call me Nicky, ”

“Okay, Nicky. Can I call you that too?”

“Sure, ” I quickly answered. I love how my name sounds coming from his mouth.

“So, Nicky, can you take us to the Alpha’s house? It seems my companions and I have lost our way, ”

“You are on your way to the Alpha’s house?!” I exclaimed, my eyes bulging out of their socket in shock.

I just left the Alpha’s house because I didn't want to marry the big old mean Alpha King but Mr. Clear and Authoritative voice wants me to take them there? What kind of wretched fate did I have?

I felt turned between refusing and accepting. I looked at my injured hind leg and I saw that I had no choice but to return home.

Who knows maybe my parents just heard about the marriage and the Alpha King is not marrying me anytime soon. Or perhaps, being his mate is an oversight from him. He must be wrong.

After I take Mr. Clear and Authoritative voice to my father, I will heal up and run away again.

“So, who are you? I can't take you to the Alpha without knowing who you are.”

“Who are you and why are you searching for our Alpha?" I asked again, when I saw that he wasn't replying.

He was just looking at me. Did I have dirt on my face when I fell?

“If you don't tell me who you are, I can't take you to the Alpha,” I said frankly.

No matter how handsome and terrifying I find him to be, I can't take him to my father without knowing who he is.

If he thinks that I'm a naive girl that gets muddled when I see a handsome man, he better think about it again because I can't put my father or our pack in such danger.

“I'm Reagan,” I heard him say after our staring contest.

Reagan? I blinked slightly

Why does he have the same name as the Alpha King?

I thought I was asking myself in my head until Reagan replied to me.

“Because I'm the Alpha King of course,”
