Rayne's POV

“Sweet Lord, what is that pounding sound?” I murmured as I placed my hand on my forehead. My head hurts. It felt like I was spinning in a circle. I rubbed my eyes and woke up in a daze.

“What the hell…” I said, looking confused as I found myself in an office. It was pretty different from mine. The office was large and decorated with exquisite mini statues and classic curtains. Everything was in gray and black, giving it a mature color yet eerie vibe.

The room was silent, and the only sound I could hear was my ragged breathing. “What was happening to me? I was in Nathan's arms a few seconds ago. Was I dreaming? But it didn't seem like one. It felt real.” My thoughts raced in my head.

Nathan's POVThe fast sound of the opened door stirred me in my sleep as I slowly opened my eyes. I almost screamed when a pair of bright green eyes greeted me. “Dad! Dad! Wake up!” Leo said with so much energy. “What was he? Five?” I thought. Leo was filled with energy. His messy brown hair stuck out in every direction. I groaned and rubbed my sleepy eyes. If I was sleepy a few seconds ago, it was gone as Leo kept pulling the sheets off my body. “Rayne, talk to your son. He's a problem,” I spoke with a deep morning voice. Rayne giggled and held Leo still in a warm hug.“Leo, buddy, what's the big idea?” I tried to sound tough, but I failed miserably. Leo glanced at me and smiled, then back at Rayne. The boy had the nerve. He was lucky he had his mother backing him every time.“I wanted to show you something! Mom, look at this,” Leo exclaimed, shaking like an excited five-year-old who received his favorite candy. The sound of flapping paper and light reflection on it pulled my a

Nathan's POVThe dining room was empty except for me. I had some work to do, and going to the office was not one of them. I made sure to convince Rayne and Leo to stay at home. My mind was ticking with different thoughts until Rayne walked in. “Is anything on your mind?” Rayne asked calmly. “I'll be honest. I have quite a lot,” I answered. “Is it because of Christina?” She asked again. “I know you're wary of her, but I can assure you, she's clean. I do trust your judgment, love.”“How long do you want to stay in my head?” I asked, chuckling. She laughed, “I don't need to. You're not so hard to read anymore.”“Really?” I asked, my head creating more scenarios and ideas. Then, I remembered Rayne's phone. I could use that to my advantage. I was paranoid, and my instincts told me I was ignoring something. Jack walked in at that moment, handing some files to me. “Here are the details of Ruffalo's project. The other documents have been sent to your email, sir.”“Good,” I said, browsing

Zia’s POVI loved the softness of the sofa. It was great to have luxury. I smiled heatedly, looking at the puzzle cube in my hand as I tried to manipulate the colors. Just then, Elliot walked in, his eyes scanning the room before settling on me. “You're here? You're not sitting and only staring. What do you want?” I asked, still focused on the cube. “Can't I come to check on my lovely woman anymore?” Elliot asked with his fingers moving my hair out of my face. I scoffed. “You should spend more time with me. Why waste your time on that cube? You're not even good at it. You barely know the basics.” I raised my eyebrows as a smirk spread across my face. “Dumb? Did I hear you right? What a shame, the dumb one had to be the one to bail you out of the trouble you got yourself into.” Elliot sighed, his hands raised in defeat. “Fine. You win, as always. You didn't have to be bitchy about it, though.” I rolled my eyes and continued with the cube. “So, what have you been up to?” He asked

Nathan's POV The door to the basement opened. It was large and dimly lit. The smell of mildew filled my nostrils. The bodyguards followed my steps as I walked in. My gaze fell on the maid tied to a wooden chair. Ropes on the sides of the chair bound her wrists and ankles. I walked closer to her, my footsteps echoing off the walls. The room was almost empty of any furniture. She struggled with the ropes and wrenched as the painful burn hit her skin. Her skin was covered in sweat, or was I wrong? I looked again and noticed she was soaked wet. There was a large bowl of water a few meters away from her. “I hope he didn't do exactly what I thought he did,” my inner voice spoke. “Not like you should pity her. She was ready to harm your son. No one messed with my family,” the voice continued as my anger rose. I maintained a calm expression and turned my gaze to Jack.“Is she ready to talk?” I asked Jack. “I believe so,” Jack answered. I had made sure my men didn't touch her. Just scare h

I stared at him and smiled. “I know what you're thinking before you do. That's why I'm your husband,” Nathan said in a low husky voice. He bent down and kissed me on the lips. “Get dressed, sweetie. We are going out.”I was curious about the sudden change of mood. “What's the occasion? You were in a different mood some minutes ago.”“There’s no occasion, just us. Besides, am I supposed to remain angry? She's no threat, plus I can't stay mad, especially when you're looking so tempting. Please, agree,” he replied, his eyes sparkling with mischief. I giggled, and my heart raced with joy. “Don't start now. You're goin

Rayne's POVI lifted the menu on the table, searching for any tasty food. They had a lot of weird names, and I secretly prayed they would taste nice, too. Nathan went first, his eyes still focused on the menu. “I'll have the Seared Scallops with truffle oil and Meyer lemon, grilled Filet Mignon with truffle butter. Some roasted Scallops and a bottle of the Château Lynch Bages Pauillac wine.”I stared at him, wondering how he could understand everything. The waitress wrote on her paper and turned to look at me. “What about you, madam?”“Do you need help?” Nathan asked, but I felt like a queen and didn't want to agree I was lost. “No,” I answered. My eyes darted at the menu. I looked at the pictures and picked the nicer to eat. “I'll take the Food Gras with pickled cherry and toasted brioche with the Dry-Aged porterhouse steak with creamed spinach and hash browns and some grilled lamb chops with rosemary,” I listed. “Someone is hungry,” Nathan teased, laughing. “And some sparkling w

Clean the speck on your eyes. I was gawking at her when she came in, and you were too. She's way hotter than you. Now, shut up and eat your food.” Her friend shut her up. If that was supposed to be a whisper, then it was a failure as I could hear everything, or maybe I was just too interested in the gossip. The jazz music played louder, distracting everyone. “Stop paying attention to them. I told you, I'm all yours tonight. I need your eyes to be on me,” Nathan said, holding my chin with the tip of his fingers. His eyes held a playful delight, drawing me into the illusion. He was doing things to me, and he knew. The music had shifted to a slow rhythm. “You're a smooth talker,” I whispered against the soft voice. “Well, am I smooth enough to sweep you off your feet?” He asked, smiling like he won a trophy. “Maybe,” I said. He faked crying when I said that. “Come on, Nathan. Let's go somewhere quiet.” He stared in shock, not expecting me to make a change so fast. “or do you want to stay here a little longer?” I asked, blinking my eyelashes at him. “What? Nathan's POVMy heart raced wildly as I ran up the stairs with Jack and Alex behind me. We reached the rooftop, and my heart sank as my worst fears were confirmed. A lady lay unconscious on the floor and I walked slowly to the body scared it was Rayne but it was Pamela. I felt bad but hoped she was still alive. I looked up to see a masked figure dressed in a black suit pointing a gun at someone. My heart skipped a beat when I saw Rayne shivering with fear at the gun pointed at her. “Hey, let her go!” I shouted, finally getting the attention of the masked person. The figure looked at me and back at Rayne and slowly removed its mask revealing a long hair flying with the wind. It was Zia. She had a wicked grin and spoke with a sinister tone. “Oh, my darling. You're just in time to witness the end of…this bitch.”I walked cautiously to her so as not to make her shoot. “How did you get in here?” I asked.Zia chuckled and answered calmly. “You're not the only one with spies, Nathan. Rayne's POVI pulled up to Rayne's house, my second home. Nathan and I were getting off on the good side. He was never that bad if I was being honest. I was just jealous. It was now a habit to spend the weekend with my biological family. Many times Dad had asked me to come stay with them but I couldn't abandon my adoptive parents and he understood.I planned on taking Rayne on a sibling date. I was going to live up to my big brother's expectations since we both missed growing up in each other's lives. Her kids were my kids and I couldn't have enough of them. I had a little chat with our father while Rayne dressed upstairs in her room. When she came down dressed in a lovely casual top and jeans with a baseball cap, I cheered because we had unknowingly worn the same thing.Janet crawled up to me, and she lifted her body making an attempt to stand but her feet wobbled and she fell but I caught her in time. She giggled and raised her hands up for me to carry her. Nathan came by and after

Zia’s POVI didn't say much and let Lucinda do her stuff. She presented the paperwork from the court to the head officer and I was free to go. Nothing felt better than leaving the mental hospital. It was a breath of fresh air. I had all sorts of emotions come to me. It was a mix of relief, anxiety, and uncertainty. Lucinda let me into her car and flashed me a sly smile. “Get in,” she said with an up tone. “We can catch on what we have missed on the way. I want to know everything.” I scoffed and entered the vehicle. “You wish, old witch as if I would ever tell her anything. Like I would ever tell you anything. You deserve nothing but total hatred from me,” I thought, faking a smile at her. She drove as I sat in the car and the image of the mental hospital gates getting distant made me want to fly to the moon. I didn't trust her so I let the questions fly around to be sure. “How did you know I was locked up in an asylum?” I asked, my eyes fixed on her body movements to detect if sh

Zia’s POVMy body grew numb as I lay in the cold room. My mind became foggy as I Lost my sense of time. I hoped Sarah was able to make it far away. She could always find a way to help me but how she would go about it bothered me. My teeth chattered uncontrollably and I couldn't feel my fingers or toes. White smokey gas came out of my nose and mouth anytime I breathed out in my vain effort to warm myself. I clutched down to the side of the room, with my hands folded across my knee.I was about to give up and pray for death so I could end it all, but the door creaked open and a worker stepped in. I raised my head and he looked at me with disgust. There was no hint of flinch of pity in his eyes. “Well, well, well. Look at what we have here,” he said, mocking my situation. “If it isn't the little troublemaker? How do you feel? Sarah lay beside me panting. I whispered to her. “What do you say about getting the hell out of here?”“You don't mean..?” Sarah whispered back, her gaze still fixed on the ceiling. “Yeah, leave her for good,” I answered. “How are we supposed to do that? The hospital thinks we are crazy and it would take a long time to convince them that we are sane enough to be discharged, we came here because of a crime,” Sarah replied. “I wasn't talking about convincing anymore. Zia’s POVI stood from my seat and approached her slowly with caution. The ranting and noisy chatter from the other patients didn't stop me. I got to her table and carefully sat on the opposite seat so as not to aggravate her in case I was wrong. “Hi,” I said, smiling. I looked around to make sure none of the nurses, doctors or any officials were watching. “I'm Zia,” I said, giving her my hand for a polite handshake. She looked at me with a hint of curiosity then at my free hand and she slowly let out her hand and shook mine. “Hey, I'm Sarah and I am not crazy.” She said calmly but in a happy voice. “Glad to see someone else has their head right. I was worried you would…” I said, but was unable to finish the words, afraid it would come off as offensive to her. “Koo Koo. Nuts missing and screws flying. Nah, I'm fine. I just act along sometimes so I get to be left alone and not poked with annoying needles all the time,” she explained. She was a chatty one and I liked that. I needed

Zia’s POVThe prison room was cold as I was alone in my room. I glanced at the toilet from my small bed. The bed was only large enough to carry only me. I felt devastated, angry at Rayne but pity for myself. How did I move from the queen of the business world to this? And Elliot? That bastard had betrayed me. I had betrayed him first but it still didn't give him the right to leave me like this.I had spent a month in this disgusting cell, the prison room was neat and I was lucky for someone to pay for me to stay alone after a week of torture and bruising from the other prison mates. I had begged the warden for a phone call to call my Dad, Rayne's father but he didn't respond to any of my calls. Maybe, it was Dad but I was moved to the upper-class prison cells where I could stay alone and not have to worry about fighting for where to sleep with five roommates for the night or being woken up with kicks. The inmates were cruel and I was subjected to slavery. I began to feel how my maid
