Over the course of writing this novel, I’ve been experimenting with different ways to structure my work week. I think I’ve finally found one that I like better than previous methods, and it starts with this chapter. I hope that this change makes my storytelling better than before.
Midway up one of the Red Spiral Towers, the Admiral, Retholis, and a few of their officers sat in a small, cozy booth. The booth was nothing more than a circular room with a dark wall and ceiling. A long cushioned seat ran along the edge of the wall, and ringed a circular table that protruded from t
“Great,” said the Admiral. “So we’re on, then? We sign some paperwork, make some armor, and wait for the inevitable?” “Not quite. We obviously can’t do human armor - that clearly wouldn’t be for the benefit of the Drogar. But maybe something along those lines. As someone who develops cutting edge e
Paveloth practically choked in anger at Thalcrii’s responses. What he was saying was completely preposterous! His district was strictly against the measure. He himself was against it. Everyone knew it. He had previously voted against it, and even spoke his displeasure at the expenditures. His sudde
Eva inhaled deeply as she ground her foot into the sand, then with a long and even exhale, she leapt forward with explosive power. She dove in blade-first at her opponent, and slashed at him mercilessly. Her dance was powerful, but flowed like water. Her graceful movements kept her Drogar opponent
“Yeah, it’s a little out of hand,” added Alevos. “You ought to see my message box - there’s as many requests for you as I have for beltknives. It’s utterly absurd.” Eva was greatly unbalanced by what the two of them said. Her throat immediately locked up, and her head throbbed in anxiety. She would
“These are the only breaks we get, honestly,” said Doleth. “Except the basics, you know. Sleeping, eating. The usual.” “Soooo, these few hours we have with you two are pretty exceptional,” added Severas. “Yeah, we like it. We don’t have to kill anyone while we’re with you, which is a seriously nice
Felothi stepped through the doorway and into the small, dingy hab. The door slid shut behind him with a SWISH. He carefully slung the rifle off from his shoulder, then stepped in a wide alcove set into the wall to the right of the door. He set the rifle down and leaned it into the corner, then bega
Frustration started to fill her as he spoke. To her, it sounded like he was simply making excuses in order to avoid his duties. She waved at her terminal, then chided him with abandon, her tone cold. “You think I knew how to even use this when I started?” she said. “No, ‘course not! The company tau

The hab itself was sparsely decorated and seemed barely lived-in. There was a small pile of personal things in bags and boxes in a corner of the large living room, which appeared to be the effects of the small family that had moved in. It seemed that they had just taken possession of the hab itself
The pup came to a small group of human and drogar children, who much like his own brethren were running around and playing with each other. They laughed and giggled as they chased each other gaily through the park. Unlike his brothers and sisters however, the pup found some excitement and enjoyment

Kali shivered slightly as she recalled that moment in time. Her body hunched over slightly as she grasped and embraced herself in an attempt to comfort the way she felt. More than that, her voice started to crack and waver as she spoke. “Everytime I looked at him, at anyone I tried to ‘be’ with, a
“Hey, you doing okay?” Amal asked her quietly. “You look like you could use some company.” She climbed up on the outcropping where Kali was, and set herself down next to her with a warm smile painted on her face. “Yeah, I guess,” Kali replied. “Just going through some stuff, nothing too bad.” “Fe
