“You keep reminding me of your father,” Calisté smiled and touched his forehead. “We would meet again, Jimin Kong.”

Jimin closed his eyes tight as he felt Calisté’s warm hands on his forehead and the next place he saw himself was on his bed in the centre of his room. Sebastian and Trey were staring at him on the bed as he opened his eyes and he blinked, trying to adjust his eyes to the light that was shining through the window into his room.

“Jimin,” Sebastian called. “You’re alive. Where have you been all this while? Calisté let you free?” Jimin stared at Sebastian and turned to face Trey.

“You are alive?” Jimin said fondling his cheek. “You know this is all your fault. You ran away from your number one duty as a Sentinel just because you had some scores to settle? Are you the first person in the world to have a scar given to you by a Lycan? Do you know what Lycans and witches have done to my own family? Have you seen me running around at the slightest provocation?”

Behind the door, Elder Xhang eavesdropped on their conversation. He had started suspecting that something was wrong the moment he walked into Jimin’s apartment and found out that he was not there. Hearing that Tae’s spirit was now in his son was the worst news in the world. He could remember clearly that the Black Wolf Pack failed Tae at the battle. Dan abandoned him to die at the battle field and the worst thing that could happen was Tae allowing his only son make the same mistake by giving his life for Dan’s son. Elder Xhang knew that very soon, Tae would begin to advise his son and then, Jimin’s loyalties towards the pack would begin to waver. It was a very dangerous situation – one that the pack couldn’t afford to risk, for their safety. He took his phone and dialed a number.“The Beta knows the truth,” Elder Xhang grunted into the phone. “We have to take him out now. You know your job, Grob. Do it fast.”“Has anyone seen my son, Draymond?” Michael Coatés asked at the dining. Jimi

  • RISE OF THE LAST ALPHA   ELDER XHANG'S VISIT

It was already towards evening before Elder Xhang decided to pay him the visit. Xavier stood at the front balcony of the pack house admiring the beauty of the setting sun. It looked orange from the vantage position where he stood and for a moment, he remembered the day that Elder Xhang had warned him about – the day everything went wrong in his father’s regime, the day of the blood moon. It was that day that the moon turned red and all werewolves lost their powers. Staring at the orange sun made him remember it. It was not a day he was looking forward to and although the Elders had already told him that it was expected very soon, he prayed that it would not be in his reign. He peered down and caught sight of Diana walking along the streets. She was holding a book in her hand and reading as she walked and because she was not concentrating on where she was heading to, she bumped into someone walking on the road and her book fell to the floor. She would have fallen too if not for the wa

  • RISE OF THE LAST ALPHA   THE ALPHA NEEDS A BRIDE

“The Lycan Elders were left confused and after some time, they came to a decision. Szar was given a vote of no confidence for concealing such important information from them. The Lycan Elders have always been very influential and it was not very hard to turn more than half of the city against Szar. The people lost faith in him and asked him to peacefully leave power and give way for another king to be chosen. Szar refused to leave power of course and everyone knew at that time that war was looming. It was not long before Elder Ødaard led the revolution against him. The greatest war in Lycan history was fought that year – half the kingdom fought for their king Szar and the other half fought for Elder Ødaard. He was the wisest Elder the Lycans had and they were certain that with him in power, they would be able to find a solution to their heir who was in werewolf custody. Sooner than later, the Lycans forgot us their main rivals and started fighting amongst themselves. Your ancestor, Al

  • RISE OF THE LAST ALPHA   THE FACEOFF

Xavier was restless all through the night and for the better part of the next day. Elder Xhang had come into his house, dropped the bomb and walked away happily. How did the Elder expect him to have a good night rest with the nature of the information that he had just dropped on him. Elder Xhang expected him to get married to his own cousin, Oliveira, the daughter of the Lycan King, the daughter of the very man that had killed his family. It was not even possible. Xavier knew what Elder Xhang was trying to avoid and it was a good reason but not enough to make him forgive the man that killed his parents. Ghost deserved to die for his crimes. He didn’t deserve to have his daughter married off to the Alpha of the strongest pack in the world. As Xavier pondered upon what to do, his mind drifted away slowly back to the girl he had been eyeing – Diana. Beautiful, quiet and with the poise and grace of a model. She would make a wonderful queen and not some Oliveira. For all he knew, she might

  • RISE OF THE LAST ALPHA   THE FIGHT

“As much as I hate to say this,” Tae whispered in Jimin’s ears. “The boy sounds very different from his father. You can protect him if you want, but you would never bend the knee to him. No Kong would ever bend the knee to a Damon, ever again.”“Don’t you think that is my decision to make father?” Jimin grunted to himself.“It is our decision to make,” Tae grunted back to his son. “I am not going to watch you make the same mistake that I made. We were not born to be slaves to Damons. We have a rich history as well. The first Beta, Beta Xi Kong was the most feared Beta in the world, the most feared wolf in the world. His Alpha, Ramos Daehar was a weakling and he only managed to keep Xi by his side because of his wisdom. The Kong family is a great one as much as the Damon is and I won’t live to see my son bend the knee to someone he can best easily in a fight.”“But you did it easily in your first life,” Jimin said. “How come it has suddenly become a problem, bending the knee. Our famil

  • RISE OF THE LAST ALPHA   A BETRAYAL AT COURT

Xavier cleared his throat for the umpteenth time as he waited for the court meeting to begin. He wondered what was so important that Elder Xhang had to tell them that had made him burst into his room a second time in less than 48 hours. He was still talking with Jimin when Elder Xhang walked in “Alpha Xavier,” Elder Xhang said as he pushed the door and walked in. Both Jimin and Xavier had turned back surprised to see him and they stared at him in confusion. Xavier had wondered if his coming was to remind him to get married to the Lycan king’s daughter and he had already started to tell him that he was not going to get married to any Oliveira girl when Elder Xhang cut in.“This is not about our earlier discussion Alpha Xavier,” the Elder said, his eyes shifting between Jimin and Xavier. Xavier knew that in that moment, Jimin would have wondered what they were discussing but that was the least of his worries. What then was the issue that made Elder Xhang burst into his room without ev

Xavier could not believe his ears. It was him Elder Xhang was talking to. He frowned and turned away in displeasure and Elder Xhang took that as his cue to continue with his prosecution.“Step forward Trey,” Elder Xhang said. “You have been accused of abandoning your Sentinel duty to chase after an old foe, precisely the Lycan responsible for the nasty cut on your face. What do you plead to the charge that has been laid before you?” The whole of the court was silent and in that moment, if someone had dropped a pin on the floor, it would have been heard loud and clear. Trey turned to look at Sebastian who was standing some meters before him. They seemed to have a quick communication with their eyes and Sebastian seemed unhappy at the end of their conversation.“I am guilty of the charge placed before me,” Trey said finally with his head bowed down.“Are you out of your mind?” Sebastian screamed standing up from where he was seating on the court and rushing forward to meet Trey. His ey

How dare you speak to me with such disrespect,” Elder Xhang thundered moving towards Trey. “I served in the Blood Moon war when your grandfather scurried away to hide in a hole with the wife of Dan, the Alpha king. I defended this pack with my life.”“Believe me Elder Xhang,” Jimin frowned. “I’ve seen a lot of disturbing clips about that war and your face was not in any of them. Are you sure you can remember clearly or maybe you’re getting old...”“I think you must be delirious…” Elder Xhang started. “The effect of the…”“Silence!” Xavier thundered. “All of you! Can we not have a peaceful judgement here? I have other things to do and good heavens, look at the time! Please continue, Trey.”Trey nodded and continued. “I am not here to defend my actions on that night. I broke one of the most important codes in Sentinel history when I decided to chase after the Lycan that scarred my eye. What I did was wrong and I deserve to be punished. I am sorry for my sins and if there is any way I ca

“Rhea? Helping? After all I told you about her?”The disgust on Jimin’s face was pretty much obvious and Xavier knew that it was going to take more than mere words to convince his Beta that the Lycan kings daughter was actually on their side.“She’s helping out with Calistè,” Xavier frowned staring at Jimin. “She saved my life and i really think we should give her a chance.”“Well I don’t think we should,” Jimin sighed. “After all that she’s done, but if that’s what you want, who am into argue with you?”Jimin turned around immediately and stormed out and Xavier watched as he left. He turned to face Jaime and Layla who had been quiet all the while and he stared at them.“What’s with the look?” Layla frowned. “Come on let’s go help your Luna. I want to be an aunty very soon.”Xavier smiled and blushed and bolted towards the sound of the clanking swords. He was happy that his sister had gotten over her hatred for Rhea and he knew that with her on his side now they were going to defeat C

"Hunny! Did you miss me?" Calistè gave a smug smile while Xavier stared in shock."You…yo " he tried to speak but what befell his eyes was greater than what his mouth could speak out loud."Yeah. Jimin watched as Layla rallied the group together in the small study, the space getting filled up immediately with eager faces ready to fight for their Alpha, for their kingdom. Jimin turned away from the group, striding into the main study and shutting it close behind him. When he turned around, Xavier was staring up at her, his hands frozen untop a map that he'd probably been gazing at before Jamie entered."You know you can join your sister and help with the planning. Instead of being all by yourself, worrying, like always." Jimin was satisfied with Xavier's severe frown, his forehead wrinkling. Xavier ignored him and went back to his perusal of the map. Jimin drew closer, his head tilting down to take in the almost real picture of their kingdom. Xavier had placed pins around the boarder, and was currently swirling one in his hand while staring at the map in concentration. He stuck the pin at a place that didn't make sense and let out a grunt of frustration. Jimin was confused and

"You can't believe you can ever defeat me, right?" Calistè said with vigor and a growing grin coming up on her face."Just wait till I smack that stupid grin off your face" Rhea said, her brows nearly touching from anger."Make me?" She challenged.Rhea rushed at her, her hands holding two daggers now, her feet swift on the ground and her stance defensive even though she was the attacker now.Flames went up in different directions and Rhea glanced quickly to see that Layla had her hands on Xavier as he steadied his breath to catch his breathing and stop the bleeding that was now obvious.Rhea got even more angry as she dodged the attack on time, her face nearly been dissected by calistè's sharp sword."You know how I got this sword? Huh!" Calistè boasted and struck again, missing Rhea immediately from her swift and tricky movements."I have a feeling you're going to tell me anyway, so do" Rhea said and took another stance. With two of her fingers she gestured for calistè to meet her a

Jamie asked the man in question but he didn't reply. He gestured to his fellow elders and they all went to take their various seats at their high tables."So tell us, Xavier. Why have you come back?" The eldest elder asked again.Xavier who was still managing to recover from how they knew about Rhea snapped out of his head and stepped forward in the council."I have lead this kingdom for a while and everybody can see my works" Xavier began and some of the elders nodded their heads to what he said but not Marcus."I have been away for quite some time" he looked intently at everyone" And I bring you news from the snowy mountains and others... • RISE OF THE LAST ALPHA   UNWELCOME GUESTS

The fight took a lesser time to finish as they had gotten that source of information, blood and splatters of beast remains stained them and the very earth that they walked on. Layla couldn't help but feel very dirty about the whole scenario that played out in front of her."We've got to help the women and the children Xavier" she said while Xavier turned back into his human form.Xavier didn't utter a single word as he walked past her and back to where a horse had galloped to."Xavier!" She called for him, her feelings out on a platterXavier stopped walking but didn't turn to look at her."I'm talking to you. We should help them out Xavier" she said, her voice sharp and firm and this got Xavier turning to look at her square in the face and Layla was able to see just how much anger resided in his little orbs of crystal clear darkness."No" he said, a Huff if air coming out of his nostrils with his finality."What?" Layla asked, baffled by what the heck he could mean."You heard me rig

Xavier came out in front of jimin, his hands still placed on the scratch he had obtained."We journey to my Homeland, the black wolves" people began to murmur." "What did you find?" Layla said with all seriousness. Jamie had so much excitement in his eyes as he jumped up and down." I found a shelter and jimin found food, we could make a camp fire later tonight" Jamie replied. Xavier nodded his head in agreement."Lead the way" Jamie was more than happy to do so.They walked together under Jamie's direction and lead, he would lead them to a path that had a sheltering , like a makeshift house but with tents. Jimin was bent over a hurdle of stacked sticks and on closer inspection, he was currently striking two stones together in order to produce fire."Jimin, let me help you with that" Layla said and walked ahead of the men to help jimin, in seconds she had done that which jimin had struggled with. With food on the raging fire, each of the flame licking a bit of the left over meat, night had quickly fallen on them."I have a question Xavier" Layla suddenly said, everybody's attention focused on her , the illumination the fire casted around the

There was an obvious change in the air the next day, Xavier was calmer and for the first time, so was Layla. They had both had time to think, mostly Layla.Jamie had appeared out of nowhere, map in hand as he suddenly cleared their breakfast off of the table that had seen more of the good life than the ugly.He spread the map evenly and Xavier glanced at Layla just in the nick of time to see that same excitement he couldn't deny made him feel a spark." Xavier, lead the way" Jamie said as he stepped away from the map. Xavier who had been seated stood up and so did the rest. With their necks outstretched, they gathered around him like a flock of flightless birds in need of direction."We go through the Rocky mountain which should take a day but now that we have no means of flight or how to get there asides from our obvious walking, we'd have to take nearly two days to get there," he said, pointing at some steep and yet pointy figures that made its way to the map."What about going arou
