Xavier woke up with an unbearable pain in his lungs. He stood up from the bed, still clutching his stomach and unable to get his balance, he stumbled to the floor. He felt something cold touch his skin and he turned alarmed to see what it was.
“Aria!” he shouted. He knelt down beside her body and felt her pulse. Nothing. Her eyes were open and staring into space and her body was cold. Her red hair had a shade of brown and her lips were turning black already. He took one last look at the lifeless body of Ariana, the witch girl he had met just a day ago that sacrificed her life to save him before he walked out of the room. Her voice was still ringing in his ears.“…take the road west, your place is in the woods…there you will fulfil your destiny…”Unlike other days when he was usually clueless, Xavier knew what he had to do. He had to take the road west. He had to fulfil his destiny. He knew that something or someone was waiting for him there. He walked upstairs to Aria’s room and knocked the door. He would have barged in knowing she was already lifeless on the floor but he had stayed in their house for just a day and he couldn’t be certain that she had no sisters. Xavier didn’t fancy the idea of walking into a room filled with girls on their underwear. After waiting for almost a minute without getting a reply, he walked in. Her room was like a typical girl’s room. Nothing out of the ordinary. Pictures of Korean pop stars lined the pink walls and more pictures of more korean pop stars were scattered all over her unmade bed. He walked to her closet and opened the door.“Sorry I’m stealing your clothes,” he frowned. “Not like you can hear me or you still have use for them. But it’s right I apologize beforehand. I promise your death won’t be in vain. So please no haunting me or entering into my dreams. I hate that shit. Agreed?”“Agreed,” the voice floated above him.“Come on!” Xavier frowned. “Seriously?”“Take the road west,” the voice said again. “You would find yourself amongst them. You would fulfil your destiny.”“Among who?” Xavier asked looking up but he didn’t get a reply. The room was silent again. He shrugged and began to pack some of her T-shirts that he felt would be big enough for him. When he had packed enough, he opened another section of her drawer and took two of her trousers and one sneakers.“This should do,” Xavier muttered to himself and made his way out of the room. He walked towards the kitchen and opened the door. Packs of cereals, fruits and snacks lay bare on the kitchen table and Xavier packed as many as he could and stuffed them in the backpack he had found in Aria’s room. He took a bottle of water and turned to leave the kitchen, satisfied with the supply he had. He didn’t know how far it was west but he had to get moving. It was about 6 a.m. and the road would be empty. He turned one last time and stared at the house he had lived in for just two days.“I’ll be back Aria,” he said with tears in his eyes.He turned and started towards the main road. Few people stared at him as he walked and he tried his best to avoid eye contact with them.“The weird guy again,” he heard someone whisper. “What is he wearing this time?”He turned to the direction of the voice and saw that some kids were pointing at him. He felt something rise in his chest and he had the urge to attack them and tear them to pieces. He knew that his werewolf instincts were beginning to set in and so he walked faster, to avoiding causing a bloody scene on an early morning in Manhattan.“Yeah run away weirdo!” he heard one of them shout. Xavier didn’t turn back. He walked as fast as he could until they were out of sight. It was already almost noon when Xavier sighted the tree. Something about it appealed to him and he knew he had to be there. He left the main road and cornered into a bush path, heading straight up for the tree. His nose began to pick up a familiar scent…the scent of rotten flesh and he walked faster. The scent was steadily getting stronger. Xavier got to the tree and the scent was everywhere. Not just on the tree, the scent was on every plant in the woods. He walked deeper into the woods, following the scent of the flesh till he got to a cave.“Anyone here?” he asked. His voice echoed through the cave and came back to him. He shrugged and prepared to walk in when he heard a cry.It was a female’s voice. A familiar voice.“Aria?” Xavier screamed. He ran towards the direction of the voice as fast as he could and he fell down more than once on the way. In less than a minute, he was there. His new clothes were already stained with mud and Aria was nowhere to be found. Instead, he found a girl about seventeen tied and gagged on the muddy ground and surrounded by four wild looking boys. They turned to face him.“What are you doing here?” the tallest of them asked. Xavier turned to assess him. He was very tall, fair and handsome. His hair was long like a woman’s and it fell across his shoulders, covering his left eye. His face was dead and expressionless and Xavier stared at him. He was definitely of Korean descent.“I said what are you doing here?” the boy asked again, his voice as calm as the brook some meters away from them. His dark eyes didn’t move from Xavier an inch. He stared at Xavier as he repeated the question a third time.“What are you doing here?”“Jimin,” the voice said in Xavier’s head again.“Aria is that you?” Xavier asked, looking around. “Aria are you here? Aria?” The boy turned to the remaining three. “Watch the girl, make sure she doesn’t escape. We have to deliver her to Jaime alive. I’ll take care of the rogue psycho wolf.”He turned to Xavier and cracked his fingers.“Jimin,” the voice said again in his head. “His name is Jimin.”“Who the fuck is Jimin?” Xavier cried, using his hands to block his ears as the voice shouted on “His name is Jimin. Jimin. His name is Jimin. Jimin. His name is Jimin.”The tall boy walked closer to him and eyed him. “How do you know my name is Jimin?” he asked staring him down. “Who are you and what are you doing here?”“I’m Xavier,” Xavier said. “And sorry for intruding. I heard a voice. It told me to come here, but apparently, this is the wrong place so if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be leaving now.”Xavier turned to leave and as expected, he felt a cold hand grab his shoulder.“You are going nowhere Xavier,” Jimin said. “Not until I know who you really are.”“I’m Xavier,” Xavier repeated. “Xavier Damon. Please let me go. I need to find the road west.”“Xavier Damon?” Jimin frowned. “Like D – A – M – O – N ?” he spelled it out.“Got a problem with my name?” Xavier asked.“I don’t have time for games, young wolf,” Jimin frowned. “You are not a Damon. Now if you don’t tell me who you are, you would be following me to see Jaime and trust me, he’ll hate you more than I do. Even if he spares your sorry ass, you’d be as good as dead scrubbing the floors of his palace all the days of your life.”Xavier’s ears perked up immediately he heard the word “Alpha” and he knew immediately that they were werewolves just like himself.“Please,” he knelt down. “Help me. I’m a werewolf like you. Please help me find the road west.”“Of course I know you’re a werewolf,” Jimin grunted. “You smell like a month old cheeseburger and I picked your scent from over a mile. And yes, this is the west. That was the old name though. We used that hundreds of years ago when Dan was our king but he’s long gone. It’s now called Jaime’s Wood.”Xavier’s ears perked up once again at the name of his father, Dan but he kept quiet. He had read too many books about slaves that killed the sons of kings to become kings and he didn’t fancy it happening to him in real life.“So you would help me,” he said still kneeling. “Thank you sir, thank you very much.”Jimin stared at the weird werewolf clinging to his sneakers and he wriggled his feet away from Xavier’s grip. “Its white as you can see,” he said frowning. “It doesn’t get dirty even when I’m on patrol so back off.”Xavier left his shoes immediately. “Thank you sir!”“What is wrong with you Xavier Damon,” the voice said again. “You are his king! He should kneel before you! Stand up now! I command you!”“Uhmm..no,” Xavier frowned. “I’ll rather not.”Jimin stared at him. “Huh?”“Not you,” Xavier replied smiling curtly. “Its this stupid voice in my head. Back off, Aria. I’ll tell you when I need your help.”“I am not Aria you fool!” the voice cried. “And you do not command me.”“Leave me alone!” Xavier cried shutting his eyes tight and covering his ears with his hands.“I don’t think so,” Jimin shook his head. “I think you’ve outdone yourself already.” He turned to the three boys that were standing beside the girl. “Hans! Come over here. Let’s bind the rogue wolf and take him to our Alpha!”“You shall not bind me!” the voice screamed in Xavier’s head and Xavier wondered if they were hearing him.“Please,” Xavier muttered. “Aria, Calisté, whoever you are. Please I need this. I need to see the Alpha. Don’t spoil this for me.”“You are the Alpha!” the voice roared in his ears.“Nooooo!” Xavier cried shaking his head violently to block out the voice.“Yes,” Jimin sighed. “Hans, get the ropes!”“You shall not bind me!” the voice screamed again.Xavier felt the world begin to spin beneath his feet as a wave of strength swept through him. He cried out in a loud voice and he blacked out immediately. He woke up on the mud. His shirt was torn in pieces and stained with black blood. His backpack was open and all the food he had packed lay scattered across the floor. He scrambled up to pack the food and put them back in their place and then he saw the bodies. The dead bodies of four boys lay on the mud perfectly arranged beside him according to their heights. He jumped up in shock and one of them coughed and stirred.“Jimin,” Xavier gasped. “Oh my God who did this to you?” He turned to see if it was the girl but he saw that she was still bound on the floor. Jimin looked up at Xavier weakly. His jet black hair was stained with blood in different spots. Xavier rushed to the ground in a bid to get him cleaned up and just then, he felt something take over him.“Jimin!” he roared with fire in his eyes.Jimin stared up at him weakly. “My king,” he said in a voice a little above a whisper. “Spare my life. I didn’t know it was you.”“You are loyal!” Xavier roared. “You would the boy till he becomes strong enough. Is that clear?”“Yes my king,” Jimin said.“I chose peace but they chose war,” he roared. “Calisté’s forces rise in the east. Ghost is in control of the two ends of the earth, the North and the South. We have only the west. You would stand by him until it is time.”“I would my king,” Jimin replied.“Good!” Xavier’s eyes lit up immediately. “But first, we have some acting to do.”Jimin hated acting. He hated anything that had to do with pretense. He had always been very straightforward and that was one of the reasons why Jaime had put him in charge of the sentinels. They didn’t like each other very much but Jaime trusted him. Jaime knew he was loyal and honest so what better wolf to patrol your surroundings than one who would never lie to you or betray you? Jimin frowned at the thought of lying to Jaime but he couldn’t risk angering Dan. He knew very well that the voice he had heard speaking through Xavier was Dan’s. He had never seen him but he had heard so much about him. Dan the legendary, the fiercest alpha king ever, the first to take down a whole colony of humans singlehandedly and also the first to eventually get married to a human. That became his downfall as she calmed him down. A werewolf was never meant to be calm. Werewolves were not to be tamed. But Dan fell in love with the human girl and cut all ties with werewolves. He ordered for werewolves to
Xavier was tempted to ask Jimin if he was sure he knew the road. They had been walking for over ten minutes and a few times, he stopped and crouched down to look at something on the wet floor of the cave. Xavier was not sure what it was but he waited whenever Jimin stopped and continued walking when he did. “Is it still far?” Xavier whispered. “My legs are hurting already.”Jimin stared at Xavier’s feet for a while and looked up at him. “Why are you wearing pink sneakers?” he asked. “Long story,” Xavier sighed. “It all started when…”“Don’t bother,” Jimin frowned walking faster. They stopped at a huge stone blocking the path and Jimin tapped the stone. A screen appeared on it and he pressed his thumb on the screen for a second. It scanned his thumb print and the stone rolled away. Jimin turned to Xavier and nodded at him, signaling for him to step inside.“A rogue wolf remember,” he whispered in Xavier’s ears as they walked in.Xavier could not believe his eyes. If not that Jimin h
Xavier’s eyes darted from the gazebo to the training ground and back to the gazebo. He was in awe. How could such big structures fit into a small cave? He stared around for a while forgetting that he was following someone and almost got lost in a crowd of girls running past. Most of the girls blushed at the sight of Jimin but he stared at Xavier, a sour expression on his face.“Want to know how I got this mark?” Jimin frowned, showing Xavier a small scar under his left eye.“No,” Xavier shook his head. “I don’t think so.”“Carrick,” Jimin said ignoring Xavier. “He was the head of the Sentinels when I was a juvenile.”“Okay?” Xavier stared at him wondering where he was driving.“I’ll be very glad to give you yours,” Jimin said and started walking again.Xavier made sure to follow him closely this time. Walking behind Jimin was not very hard if you could keep up with his pace but it was equally boring and time consuming as he never even stopped once to wave to any of the girls tha
The words hooked in Xavier’s throat. He wanted to say something. He wanted to deny the fact that his name was Xavier Damon. How on earth had Draymond found out? He decided that he was going to deny it. He knew the implications of accepting that name. If Draymond told their alpha, Jaime, he was going to be in a lot of trouble.“You must be mistaking me for someone else,” Xavier laughed, uneasy. “My name is Frost. Frost Xaviers. I don’t know this Xavier Damon you speak of.”Every werewolf knows Xavier Damon,” Draymond replied, opening the door of the room. “Come inside and let’s have a small chat will you?” Xavier couldn’t even say ‘No.’ He walked in cautiously behind Draymond taking a look at the room.“Nice room,” he said, desperately trying to change the subject. “Particularly love the silk curtains. This is the boy’s room right? For the four of us?”“No,” Draymond replied. “Sebastian and Jon have their own room. I’ve always liked my privacy but with your presence here, I have no cho
“Impossible,” Xavier laughed. “You can’t make me do your chores. That is not part of our deal.”“Remember I’m the one dictating the terms of that deal,” Draymond replied. “You would start performing all my Omega functions from tomorrow except you want people to know who Frost Xaviers really is.“You won’t tell anyone who I am,” Xavier said. “Your own ambition would be over if Jaime finds out and gets to me.”“My ambition for your life,” Draymond shrugged. “That’s a very huge gamble. What if I suddenly decide that I don’t really care who ends up as the king of the Alpha’s?”Xavier frowned at the thought of it. Truly, Draymond didn’t have much to lose if he told everyone Xavier’s little secret. Worst case scenario for him, he would remain an Omega for the rest of his life, doing dirty dishes and laundry, only case scenario for Xavier, he would die. “What are you chores?” Xavier asked.“Thought you’d never ask,” Draymond smiled. “I’m more like a general he said. I stand by and wait for
Five minutes into their conversation, Xavier had already drawn the conclusion that Mr. Coatés was a very hard man. He couldn’t blame him however. He was only trying to know the person he would be accommodating for the coming years. Even though Jimin had assured him that Xavier was going to be of good character, he couldn’t risk it. He wanted a first hand knowledge of the boy.“Where do you say you come from Frost?” Mr. Coatés asked Xavier for like the hundredth time in five minutes.“The North,” Xavier said. “The Ice Wolves pack.”“And you say that who is your Alpha?” Mr. Coatés queried further. Xavier paused, trying to remember the name. “Ferran,” the voice whispered in his head.“Ferran,” he smiled at Mr. Coatés. Mr. Coatés nodded at him. “So what did you do? Ferran’s wolves are up North in the stronghold of Lycans. They need more hands than any other pack. Why did he let you go?”Xavier knew from that question that he was speaking with a very intelligent man and that moment, he w
Xavier liked the idea of a stroll and it turned out to be even better than walking with Jimin. Sebastian walked slowly, talked slowly, took everything one at a time and Xavier got the impression that he would be very organized. They had been walking for almost ten minutes and a few guys had stopped to greet him as they walked. Xavier noticed how they all stared at him like he was an intruder before walking off and Sebastian noticed his discomfort at their stares.“Are you afraid?” Sebastian asked taking Xavier by surprise.“No, no, not at all,” Xavier lied. He knew that one day he would eventually have to present a case before Sebastian. He would eventually have to beg for his support and the support of his ‘Resistance’ to take his throne back from Jaime and so, he had to act tough. He had to be bold. He could see through Sebastian and he knew that he hated weakness. He would never support a weak king.“You should be afraid,” Sebastian said looking on. Two guys walked up to him at tha
“You’re joking right?” Sebastian laughed. “How can you challenge me? You are not even a member yet.”“Well I want to be,” Xavier said looking around. “Any one opposes that?”“It’s been long me watched a good fight,” one of the boys laughed. “You’re in yeah?”“Yeah!” they all chorused, excited at the thought of watching Sebastian beat Xavier up black and blue. “No guys,” Sebastian shook his head. “We can’t allow him join us. He’s a juvenile. He would spoil our plans.” He turned to Xavier. “How old are you?”“I’m not sure,” Xavier frowned. “But I think you’re so damn scared of losing to me that you’re beating about the bush with pointless questions.”“Ohhhhhhhhhhh!” they all cheered. Sebastian’s face was steadily turning red and Xavier knew that if his plan failed, he was going to be dead meat.“I’ll fight you,” Sebastian agreed. “Yeah!” everyone started cheering again.“But on two conditions,” he cut in. “One. If I win you, you get kicked out of The Resistance. Two, you or no one els
“Rhea? Helping? After all I told you about her?”The disgust on Jimin’s face was pretty much obvious and Xavier knew that it was going to take more than mere words to convince his Beta that the Lycan kings daughter was actually on their side.“She’s helping out with Calistè,” Xavier frowned staring at Jimin. “She saved my life and i really think we should give her a chance.”“Well I don’t think we should,” Jimin sighed. “After all that she’s done, but if that’s what you want, who am into argue with you?”Jimin turned around immediately and stormed out and Xavier watched as he left. He turned to face Jaime and Layla who had been quiet all the while and he stared at them.“What’s with the look?” Layla frowned. “Come on let’s go help your Luna. I want to be an aunty very soon.”Xavier smiled and blushed and bolted towards the sound of the clanking swords. He was happy that his sister had gotten over her hatred for Rhea and he knew that with her on his side now they were going to defeat C
"Hunny! Did you miss me?" Calistè gave a smug smile while Xavier stared in shock."You…yo " he tried to speak but what befell his eyes was greater than what his mouth could speak out loud."Yeah. I understand" she made a mocking face." Now! Are we going to fight or what?" She grinned big time and whistled to her beasts. He beasts all came after the others that stood in the room, Layla immediately changed to a wolf, her teeth snarling and her roar as clear as crystal.Calistè raced towards Xavier, her sword in hand as she raised her arms and swung at Xavier.Xavier missed it by a beat and she smirked hard ."Oh, much I've waited for this!" She screamed and charged at Xavier again, her heels hotter than the very earth as she kept off.Meanwhile kycans began to climb the walls and started to hit the windows."Jimin! The windows" Jamie screamed while trying to fend off a beast who looked at him as though he was nothing more than food. Before jimin could think of anything else, the shatte
Jimin watched as Layla rallied the group together in the small study, the space getting filled up immediately with eager faces ready to fight for their Alpha, for their kingdom. Jimin turned away from the group, striding into the main study and shutting it close behind him. When he turned around, Xavier was staring up at her, his hands frozen untop a map that he'd probably been gazing at before Jamie entered."You know you can join your sister and help with the planning. Instead of being all by yourself, worrying, like always." Jimin was satisfied with Xavier's severe frown, his forehead wrinkling. Xavier ignored him and went back to his perusal of the map. Jimin drew closer, his head tilting down to take in the almost real picture of their kingdom. Xavier had placed pins around the boarder, and was currently swirling one in his hand while staring at the map in concentration. He stuck the pin at a place that didn't make sense and let out a grunt of frustration. Jimin was confused and
"You can't believe you can ever defeat me, right?" Calistè said with vigor and a growing grin coming up on her face."Just wait till I smack that stupid grin off your face" Rhea said, her brows nearly touching from anger."Make me?" She challenged.Rhea rushed at her, her hands holding two daggers now, her feet swift on the ground and her stance defensive even though she was the attacker now.Flames went up in different directions and Rhea glanced quickly to see that Layla had her hands on Xavier as he steadied his breath to catch his breathing and stop the bleeding that was now obvious.Rhea got even more angry as she dodged the attack on time, her face nearly been dissected by calistè's sharp sword."You know how I got this sword? Huh!" Calistè boasted and struck again, missing Rhea immediately from her swift and tricky movements."I have a feeling you're going to tell me anyway, so do" Rhea said and took another stance. With two of her fingers she gestured for calistè to meet her a
Xavier looked from jimin to Layla with so much surprise."How did you know that?" Jamie asked the man in question but he didn't reply. He gestured to his fellow elders and they all went to take their various seats at their high tables."So tell us, Xavier. Why have you come back?" The eldest elder asked again.Xavier who was still managing to recover from how they knew about Rhea snapped out of his head and stepped forward in the council."I have lead this kingdom for a while and everybody can see my works" Xavier began and some of the elders nodded their heads to what he said but not Marcus."I have been away for quite some time" he looked intently at everyone" And I bring you news from the snowy mountains and others... Calistè is alive and well" the elders gasped in shock." And what's even more? — he paused Ashe examined each and everyone one of them including Marcus — she has beasts of her own"Gasps rang out from every corner and Xavier liked the fear it impacted on them, it was
The fight took a lesser time to finish as they had gotten that source of information, blood and splatters of beast remains stained them and the very earth that they walked on. Layla couldn't help but feel very dirty about the whole scenario that played out in front of her."We've got to help the women and the children Xavier" she said while Xavier turned back into his human form.Xavier didn't utter a single word as he walked past her and back to where a horse had galloped to."Xavier!" She called for him, her feelings out on a platterXavier stopped walking but didn't turn to look at her."I'm talking to you. We should help them out Xavier" she said, her voice sharp and firm and this got Xavier turning to look at her square in the face and Layla was able to see just how much anger resided in his little orbs of crystal clear darkness."No" he said, a Huff if air coming out of his nostrils with his finality."What?" Layla asked, baffled by what the heck he could mean."You heard me rig
"Calistè?" Jamie asked, astonished.layla didn't know what to say or how to respond, the whole world felt like it went silent and collapsed."She gathered up every last woman and child and took them with her alongside some beasts" a man spoke up." You've got to help us sire. You're our only hope now" the first man said. Xavier came out in front of jimin, his hands still placed on the scratch he had obtained."We journey to my Homeland, the black wolves" people began to murmur." We plan on taking back our Homeland and we plan on defeating calistè once and for all" Xavier said with an air of finality. The crowd stopped murmeeing and cheered a bit." Can we come with you?""Oh... Let us come with you!" Another said." Let him rest folks, wherever he goes, we go. We pledge our loyalty to you sure" the first man said again. Xavier didn't know what to make of all of these information and all of these kinds of response. He just gave a Curt nod and that was it. The men dispersed out of the h
"What did you find?" Layla said with all seriousness. Jamie had so much excitement in his eyes as he jumped up and down." I found a shelter and jimin found food, we could make a camp fire later tonight" Jamie replied. Xavier nodded his head in agreement."Lead the way" Jamie was more than happy to do so.They walked together under Jamie's direction and lead, he would lead them to a path that had a sheltering , like a makeshift house but with tents. Jimin was bent over a hurdle of stacked sticks and on closer inspection, he was currently striking two stones together in order to produce fire."Jimin, let me help you with that" Layla said and walked ahead of the men to help jimin, in seconds she had done that which jimin had struggled with. With food on the raging fire, each of the flame licking a bit of the left over meat, night had quickly fallen on them."I have a question Xavier" Layla suddenly said, everybody's attention focused on her , the illumination the fire casted around the
There was an obvious change in the air the next day, Xavier was calmer and for the first time, so was Layla. They had both had time to think, mostly Layla.Jamie had appeared out of nowhere, map in hand as he suddenly cleared their breakfast off of the table that had seen more of the good life than the ugly.He spread the map evenly and Xavier glanced at Layla just in the nick of time to see that same excitement he couldn't deny made him feel a spark." Xavier, lead the way" Jamie said as he stepped away from the map. Xavier who had been seated stood up and so did the rest. With their necks outstretched, they gathered around him like a flock of flightless birds in need of direction."We go through the Rocky mountain which should take a day but now that we have no means of flight or how to get there asides from our obvious walking, we'd have to take nearly two days to get there," he said, pointing at some steep and yet pointy figures that made its way to the map."What about going arou
