Patricia found herself nodding in succession to Alvin's question. She wasn't sure if she could endure the reality of him potentially becoming her boss, but she needed the money, and right now, there was no room in her life for drama or being affected by the past.

"Y-Yes sir, I'm okay," she replied, forcing a smile at Alvin.

The young man nodded and stared at her intently. "Alright, I won't ask for any more information about you or your life, but there's something I need to know and I need your answer right now," he said, lowering the folder he held and meeting her gaze squarely.

Patricia couldn't shake the feeling that she glimpsed a flicker of anger in Alvin's eyes as he looked at her. But just as quickly, his demeanor returned to normal, though void of emotion and seemingly indifferent.
