Chapter 7: Doctor Syd's Visit

When Katie got home, she dragged her tired body through the front screen door, she kept her trench coat on the hanger, her eyes wandered around the room and landed on the table before she looked towards the settee and discovered that Pascal was still sitting where he was.

Her eyes widened in shock "you, didn't you eat?"

she rushed towards the dining table and checked the microwaved food she have prepared for him, but to her surprise, she saw that the food was left untouched.

She furrowed her eyebrows, and stood arms akimbo at Pascal's front, with her head slightly raised like a peacock, Pascal chuckled.

"Hey, why are you laughing? you haven't eaten, ain't you hungry? and what is your name?"

Pascal looked into her eyes speechlessly, he didn't know how to respond, he doesn't even know what she was talking about.

Katie started demonstrating with her hands, but when no response came from Pascal, she gave up "he is probably deaf and dumb, or mentally unstable, what a pity" she mumbled while yawning, she strode towards the kitchen.

Pascal squinted his eyes, while watching Katie from the kitchen, some minutes later, she came out of the kitchen and signalled him over, but Pascal didn't move.

Katie started digging, after she was done eating, she rushed into her room and lay on her bed.

the next morning, Katie emerged from inside her room, stretching her arms, she rubbed her eyes "hey!"

she greeted Pascal, who sat in the same position she left him yesterday, "are you alright? did you miss your family? you don't have to feel distressed, I will call the cops, they will surely inform the general public that you are missing" Katie said.

When no response came, she gave up on the thought of communicating with Pascal and went over to the telephone.

"Hello, Doctor Syd on the line, who am I unto?" a voice came from the telephone's speaker.

"is Katie Clyde, Doctor Syd, you remember me?" Katie responded.

"of course, silly kid, I will never forget you, why did you call? I hope you are fine"

"yes, I am fine..." her response made Doctor Syd puzzled "then, why did you call?"

"I mean, I am fine, but, Doctor Syd, can you come over, I have a friend here, who needed a doctor's attention, I hope I ain't disrupting your plans for the day"

Doctor Syd's voice came from the telephone speaker once again "no matter what Katie Clyde, I will always attend to you, whenever you call me, and anytime you call me, I will always rush over, Katie"

Doctor Syd's words made Katie's eyes watery "thank you, so much"

"Are you crying, Katie?"

Katie shook her head "no, no, no, I am not crying"

Pascal's face darkened while watching tears falling from Katie's eyes "mate!" his wolf howled in his head, and his eyes became fiery red.

Pascal clenched his fists, "mate" his wolf howled once again in his head, Katie hung up the call, and turned around to see Pascal, who quickly looked away.

"um..." she was startled, wondering if Pascal is mentally handicapped, her phone started ringing in her room, and she went to get it.

"Alright, I will be there, I won't be coming to the campus today"

She ended the call, went into the kitchen, and prepared breakfast for the both of them.

"Hey, you haven't eaten anything for some days now, why don't you come and join me" Katie proposed, she was startled when Pascal stood on his feet, she missed a step, and tumbled backwards.

Pascal moved swiftly and caught her, her arms curled around his neck, while Pascal held onto her waist, the both of them were locked in eye contact.

It felt like the universe froze, and time became static, "mate!" Pascal's wolf howled in his head.

A knock disrupted the moment, Pascal helped her up to her feet, and Katie scurried away immediately and rushed towards the door.

The moment she opened the door, "Doctor Syd, you are here, come on in" 

Katie welcomed a tall man with spectacles, holding a box, he wore a white coat, and his face cracked into a smile.

Pascal narrowed his eyes, and his aura changed immediately, "I wasn't expecting you to be here early, I was expecting you some minutes later, I haven't prepared anything, pardon me, let me go and get you a cup of coffee" Katie said nervously.

She was afraid that Doctor Syd will also join the others, they disappeared immediately after her father's death, or joined her uncle, making things difficult for her.

Doctor Syd smiled warmly "Mate!" Pascal's wolf reared in his head, making him feel uncomfortable "Katie, is anything the problem? why do you need a psychologist? are you facing a lot of pressure recently, you can quit your job and be my attendant..."

Katie Clyde shook her head "I can't do that Doctor Syd, I don't like taking advantage of people, I called you because of someone else"

Doctor Syd's gaze darted around the room "who?" he mumbled wondering, his eyes narrowed the moment he saw Pascal.

Katie turned around nervously "Pascal, meet Doctor Syd, he has been the one taking care of me, since I lost my parents"

The two of them look at each other with hostility, "come with me, Katie Clyde" Doctor Syd declared, and walked away, the both of them entered her room.

"Doctor Syd, you called me here, is anything the matter?" 

Doctor Syd peered towards the closed door "who is he? did you bring a stranger home, I have never seen him in your family mansion?"

Katie looked embarrassed, she explained awkwardly "aham, he is a friend who came to NY some days ago, and he has no place to stay, so I helped him"

Doctor Syd wasn't buying the bullshit explanation, he folded his arms and gave Katie a stern askance look "and why is your friend not wearing anything underneath?"

Katie's face heated, she has forgotten that Pascal was just putting on only the bathrobe she threw at him, unknown to them, Pascal was listening to their discussion.
