DANE'S POV.

Seeing her fast asleep made me feel like the happiest man in the world. My heart was overflowing with joy. It was almost too good to be true that I had someone like Astrid right by my side all along, and I nearly lost her because of my own anger and jealousy.

We've been making good progress recently, working hard together to improve our relationship. However, poor Astrid seems to face one problem after another, never getting a moment's peace.

As she slept peacefully, I gently tucked the loose strands of her hair behind her ear. My eyes rested on her lips for a brief moment, and I lightly traced the outline of her nose with my fingers, savouring the quietness of the moment.

She mumbled softly in her sleep, scrunching up her nose in a way that made her look incredibly cute and endearing.

As she shifted and turned her back to me, I couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of admiration for her beauty. The sight of her peaceful, sleeping form stirred a possessive obsession within

HALFDAN'S POVThe heavy wooden door to the council hall swung open abruptly, creaking on its hinges as my Beta, Drake, burst into the room with an intense expression.“How dare you enter without notifying us first?” Elder James scolded, his voice filled with anger. I sighed inwardly, knowing that the elders were very strict about maintaining respect and protocol. I could already tell they were going to make a big deal out of this, dragging the issue out and making it more complicated than it needed to be.“This council hall is one of the most revered and sacred places in the pack,” Elder Thomas chimed in, his tone equally stern. “You have no right to barge in without giving us a proper announcement.” I rolled my eyes once more, feeling a mix of irritation and resignation. Clearing my throat, I prepared to address the situation.I knew I needed to say something, or they would all take turns hurling insults at him.“He is my Beta, after all,” I said, trying to sound authoritative. “I

HALFDAN'S POV.Fueled by a seething anger that felt like fire running through my veins, I stormed out of the room. My frustration reached its peak as I slammed the door behind me, the crash echoing like thunder in the silence of the mansion.“Alpha Halfdan, are you…” Beta Drake began to call out, his voice trailing off as he caught sight of me. I didn’t glance back, didn’t flinch at the interruption, and didn’t care about his concern. Every step I took was driven by a fierce determination to avoid any further confrontation. I marched out of the grand mansion, my rage propelling me forward. Once outside, I threw myself into the waiting taxi with a sense of urgency and purpose, eager to escape the suffocating presence of Camilla.“Where to, Alpha?” The driver’s voice held a note of recognition as he glanced at me in the rearview mirror.“Any closest bar!” I barked out, my voice sharp with irritation. Without a moment’s delay, he roared the engine to life, and the taxi lurched forwar

HALFDAN'S POV.“Get your damn hands off me!”I kept shouting at the top of my lungs, but my screams seemed to echo without end. Each jolt of pain made me think about my predicament, and the anger just fueled my pain. Dane's men were dragging me away, and I was struggling against their grip. I couldn't believe it; Dane was just standing there, watching them haul me out of the pack’s mansion. It felt like he had been waiting for a moment like this, and it drove me crazy to see him in control.Suddenly, I heard a familiar voice behind me. “Alpha Halfdan,” it called out. It was Beta Drake, my loyal Beta. He stepped forward, putting himself between me and the guards. His presence was a small relief as he managed to halt their progress, making them release their tight hold on my arm.“I’ll handle this from here,” Beta Drake said firmly, taking control of the situation. He took me away from them and gently took hold of my hand. Despite his calm behaviour, I could sense his frustration an

CAMILLA'S POV.I moved alongside him, each of his steps unsteady as he staggered with every few paces. I did my best to support him, holding him up to keep him from collapsing, but my mind was in a whirlwind. The aftermath of the fight had left me deeply unsettled. Not only had he hit me, but he had also pushed me away, and now, seeing him in such a state; drunk and disoriented, was disconcerting. He managed to make his way to the bed and sank down onto it with a tired, almost defeated sigh. As he mumbled incoherently in a few hushed tones, I strained to understand his words, but they remained unclear and jumbled. I watched him closely, trying to piece together what was happening. The phrase “I want my Astrid back!” echoed repeatedly in my mind. It was as if his drunken state was only amplifying his desperation, but it didn't make sense to me. What did being drunk have to do with his desire to reclaim her? What was going on inside his head? His actions and words were frustrating,

ASTRID'S POV.My eyes slowly opened, and the first thing I noticed was Dane's strikingly beautiful eyes gazing intently at me. I had to make a real effort to keep from smiling, but the happiness I felt was so intense that it was almost impossible. My stomach felt like it was fluttering with butterflies, and I swallowed hard as a grin began to spread across my face.I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed with joy. Why was Dane being so incredibly kind to me? Recently, he had been nothing short of amazing—he had saved my life on two separate occasions, gone out of his way to pamper me, and constantly showered me with love and attention. His support had been extraordinary, and I couldn’t imagine how I could have managed without him. He felt like one of the greatest gifts the moon goddess had bestowed upon me in a long time.“Why are you smiling?” Dane asked playfully, his voice soft and warm. “You have this funny look in your eyes, you know; they keep twitching.” He reached out and ge

ASTRID'S POV.The car ride was quiet, but the silence was heavy. I couldn’t help but notice that Dane kept looking at me with his eyes fixed on mine for longer than necessary. It made me feel uneasy and on edge, as if his gaze was holding me back from collecting my thoughts. I had anticipated a private drive with just Dane, but Beta Ivar was driving us, which added to my confusion and made it harder to figure out Dane's intentions or plans.“Are you sure you're okay?” Dane asked, breaking the silence. His voice was filled with concern, which was typical of him; he never kept his feelings or thoughts hidden. At that moment, I desperately needed a quiet place to process my thoughts and find some inner peace. I wanted to avoid any more conversations that would only make me worry about how my problems might affect him.“I’m fine, Dane; I told you it was just a hallucination,” I said, lying once again. I had seen how enthusiastic Dane was when he announced our outing, and now I felt a

ASTRID'S POV."Who was that man who just left?" His voice cut through the silence like a blade, deep and cold, sending a shiver down my spine. I swallowed hard, feeling the weight of his piercing gaze as our eyes locked. There was no mistaking the displeasure etched across his features; the sharp lines on his forehead deepened with a frown that made my heart race with unease. His eyes narrowed as he repeated the question, his tone even more demanding, "I'm asking you a question: Who is that man to you, and why is he here?" The intensity in his voice made it clear he wouldn't tolerate any delay. I hesitated, knowing that any response I gave could place Beta Drake in a difficult position. My mind raced, searching for a way to defuse the situation without revealing too much, but I could feel the walls closing in around me. I had hoped to manage everything on my own, to keep the complications at bay, but, as always, Alpha Dane was one step ahead, forcing the discussion I had desperat

CAMILLA'S POV.The atmosphere between Halfdan and me remained unchanged, exactly as he had declared. True to his word, he refused to speak to me or even acknowledge my presence. It was as though I had become invisible to him; he kept his gaze firmly fixed elsewhere, completely ignoring my existence.I found myself casting occasional furtive glances in his direction. Despite the tense silence and the absurdity of our situation, a part of me still missed the love we once had. The absence of our usual interactions left a void that I couldn't easily ignore. Perhaps, I hoped, once the mess with Astrid was resolved, he might regain his clarity and reconsider his love for me.The quiet of the dining hall was broken by a knock on the door. Both of us turned our heads towards the entrance, the sound pulling us out of our trance moments.“Come in,” Alpha Halfdan’s voice was curt and commanding. The door opened slowly, and Beta Drake entered the room. He carried a container in his hand, his

The room was quiet, and for a moment, loneliness washed over me like a cold wave. But then I turned to the window and saw Dane, his strong frame leaning against the sill. He cradled our baby, Hayden, in his arms. A smile crept across my face at the sight of them together. They looked perfect.“You're awake late! We had plans for today, but you overslept,” Dane teased as he walked over to me. He leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on my lips. All I could think of was her. Camilla. My mate. My cunning, twisted, evil mate. How did it come to this? The memories of that night still clawed at my mind, gnawing away until I felt like I might go insane. I closed my eyes, but the image of her face filled my head—the way her eyes locked onto mine in those final moments, full of both fear and acceptance. She was in my arms, her body limp and lifeless, yet her lips had curled in that knowing smile. The same smile she had whenever she thought she had won.She had won.Even in death, she had won, taking the slash meant for me, falling in my place. She died in my arms, the blood soaking my hands, the life draining from her body while I could only watch. Halfdan's POV.I stood on the balcony, hands behind my back, staring up at the sky. I had felt off all night, but something about being out here shifted my mood. A small smile formed on my lips as I gazed at the red sky. It wasn't the death of an alpha; I would’ve been invited if that were the case. No, this meant something else—a moon healer had been born. How fortunate their parents were. A child with such a rare gift was both a blessing and a burden. The entire world would come for them, and I would have to protect that child. It was my duty. But deep down, I wished I’d been given that choice, to have a child of my own to protect. I wanted it so badly, and I would die for my child if it came to that. But not everything in life goes the way we want it to.A sharp knock at the door snapped me out of my thoughts, and I turned my head toward the sound.“Alpha Halfdan!” Drake shouted as he burst onto the balcony, panting heavily.“What is it now, Drake?” I asked, rolling my eyes. DANE'S POV"Camilla," I called out, my voice firm. She didn’t even flinch, her cold, hard glare fixed on Astrid. Astrid, who looked exhausted and fragile. She had just given birth. She needed rest, not this. She shouldn’t be standing here, facing Camilla. All I could think was, ‘Have I ever done anything right?’ Ever since she came into my life, all I’d done was cause her pain and worry. And now I had a son too. I couldn’t let this cruel fate fall on them both. They deserved peace— ‘they deserved better than me.’Camilla took a step forward, her lips curling into a cruel smile. Her eyes locked onto the baby. My son. I stepped in front of Astrid, blocking her view."I’m going to need the child," Camilla said, her voice dripping with malice. The smirk on her face widened, her eyes glowing with hatred. My jaw tightened, my body tense. "What makes you think I’ll give you my son?" I growled, glaring at her. But my words only made her smile bigger. She looked back at me with the same ch

DANE'S POVEight months had passed, and it felt like nothing had changed. Every morning, I woke up wondering if she still hated me as much as before. It bothered me. What was I supposed to do to make things right? She had been kidnapped and hospitalised so many times, and I knew my life was dangerous for her. To make things worse, she misunderstood something I said, thinking I would hurt our child. What did she think of me?That night, after I apologised again and again, she ran off. Even after almost being killed by Camilla, she didn’t stop. She must have cared about me, right? But then her mother died, and she left, probably thinking it was better to get hurt by someone else than by me.Now, she’s back in the Fierce Claws pack. For eight months, I’ve known where she’s been hiding. I watched over her, had guards keeping a close eye, though from a safe distance. I made sure she was protected, but I kept my distance too. If she wanted to be away from me, I wasn’t going to take that fro

People walked past me, ignoring my pleas. No one knew who I was, and they didn’t care. I was invisible.“See where avoiding me got you?” Ethan’s voice came from behind me. I turned, and for the first time in my life, I was relieved to hear him.“Let’s get you somewhere safe,” he said, grabbing my arm and guiding me toward his car. I didn’t fight him. I couldn’t. He helped me into the car, and we sped off.The pain was unbearable now. I tried to hold back my screams, but it was impossible. Each contraction was worse than the last. I was losing control.Ethan pulled up to a small cottage—not a hospital—but it didn’t matter. “Someone, help!” he yelled as he carried me inside. An older man and two young women rushed over, guiding me to a bed. The smell of antiseptic wasn’t there, and everything seemed normal. It was quiet. Peaceful.I ran my fingers through my hair, sitting up slowly. I was back home, tucked safely in bed, but the memories hit me hard. It all came rushing back—my uncle, Camilla, and the knife. I almost died. But Dane saved me.Camilla had tried to kill me, but Dane stopped her. He apologized, kissed me, but I was too tired to care at that moment. I had spent the whole day running and crying. Exhausted from the fear and pain, I must have fallen asleep on the ride back.Looking out the window, I frowned. Something felt off. It was getting dark outside, and I had no idea how long I’d been asleep. Where was Dane?I stretched and got out of bed, glancing around. The room felt empty. Dane should’ve been here by now.
