Astrid's POV
“Found you, Mate!” he suddenly uttered with a mischievous sneer curling up on his lips, making me both stunned and shocked.
“I... I don't get it. What do you mean?” I asked, stuttering, trying to understand and know what he meant by what he had just said to me.
His hand pulled my chin closer to his face, and just then, he leaned in closer to my ear, cold shivers coursing through my nerves.
“I own you now, Mate!” He pulled back slowly, and with his eyes locked on mine, he smiled before letting go of my chin and standing to his feet.
At this point, I was more shocked than ever. Was the Moon Goddess just playing silly tricks on me, or was she trying to make me realize that I didn't have a choice to make?
Last I checked, I hated Alpha Dane so much—I disliked every single thing about him—and here I was, realizing that I was being mated to the ruthless Alpha of the Redmoon Pack.
“No! That can't be possible! I reject your bond! I can't be your mate!” I stood to my feet, asserting myself with my fist clenched tightly as I tried to act tough.
I was scared of him, but there was no worse nightmare than being mated to my enemy Alpha.
“What did you just say?” he asked as his veins creased. His hand slid into his pockets as he kept his menacing glare fixed on me.
“I... I said I... I reject your bond!” I fought to say, still trying to act bold before him. I just didn't want to show him that I was a weak Alpha.
“You reject my bond?” He began to walk closer to me, and getting nearer, he rolled his eyes and started walking around me in circles, his next move unknown to me.
The fear of him standing closer to me made me expect the worst.
“Well, dear princess...” he halted right behind me and, right in the hall, his arm curled around my waist and pulled me closer to his body.
He placed his head close to my ear and, with a husky voice, whispered, “You can't reject the bond... not when I, the Alpha, haven't declared it! You are mine now, and I'll keep you!” He stated clearly, and before I could utter a single word, he let go of me.
“Miriam?!!!” he called out as he walked past me.
“Yes, Alpha!” A lady about five years older than I was rushed out from the doors behind his throne chair.
“Take her away and get her ready for the night!” he commanded, and Miriam, as he had called her, obeyed.
“On it, Alpha!” She bowed her head as she rushed toward where I was standing.
“Don’t lay your hands on me!” I demanded, hoping she’d listen, but as it stood, I had no other choice but to comply.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t obey that!” She grabbed my hand and pulled me forward and behind her.
“I can’t accept him! I can’t!” I yelled at the top of my voice, trying to make things clear, but who was I kidding? He wouldn’t listen to me, not even a little.
I was pulled into a dark and lonely room against my will, and no matter how hard I tried to escape, it just wasn’t possible.
Just then, the door opened, and Miriam walked into the room with a white dress in her hand. She looked nice but was tough.
I rushed toward her and, without hesitation, grabbed her hand in mine, my eyes digging into hers.
“Please... I can't stay here! I need to leave! He can't be my mate!” I begged.
“You can't reject the Alpha, Astrid! And besides, he is Alpha Dane. No one rejects him! I’d advise you to play his game and let it be! That’s the only way to make Alpha Dane reject you,” she declared, which made sense a bit.
But if I was going to play his game, then I must have my own game too. Just then, I recalled that Alpha Dane was Alpha Halfdan's enemy. They hated each other, and this was definitely the only chance I might have to get revenge on both my cousin Camilla and Halfdan.
My fist clenched at the realization of this, and immediately, I was willing to play by the rules. He would use me, and I wouldn't hesitate to use him to my satisfaction too.
Seeing that I was willing to stay still, Miriam began to dress me in the transparent white gown that she had brought into the room earlier.
Once she was done, I saw a smile grace her lips. I bet she was happy to know that her Alpha would have sex with me for the night.
She bowed her head and left the room. I turned around and gazed out of the window, my thoughts hovering.
Within the span of a month, I had been rejected by the Alpha I thought was my mate, betrayed by him and my cousin sister, got pregnant—which was going to be a secret at this point—and I was also banished by my own father.
Now, even worse, I realized that I was mated to my enemy Alpha, the one Alpha I hated. I let out a deep sigh as a tear rolled down my cheek.
I was still lost in my thoughts when suddenly, the doors opened. I was thinking it was Miriam, but turning my face to the door, I saw Alpha Dane trudging swiftly toward where I was standing.
Before I could say a word, he had already gotten closer to me and, swiftly, he held me by my neck and wrapped his arms around my waist.
He immediately took my lips and kissed me so possessively without letting go, but then he stopped and tightened his grip on my neck even more.
“What do you say, Princess? Are you still willing to reject your mate or accept the bond? And mind you, a silly response might prompt me to get pissed, and trust me, Princess, I do crazy things when I'm pissed.”
“I don’t know what I might do to you right now if you piss me off!” he warned menacingly, his glare fixed on me.
I gave his words a quick thought, and because my heart was clouded with revenge—to make everyone who hurt me pay so dearly—I was willing to accept the Alpha Lycan's bond.
“I accept your mating bond!” I declared, and almost immediately, I felt a rush coursing through my veins as he stood closer to me.
“You’ve made the right choice, Princess!” A half-smile curled up on his lips as his gaze narrowed at me.
Astrid's POV.**3 Days Later**It was the mating ceremony of the Greenstone Pack, marking a new bond between Alpha Halfdan and my cousin Camilla.Alpha Dane, the Alpha of the Redmoon Pack, was certainly not going to miss it. I tried to stay back at the mansion, but he refused, dragging me out into the night for the ceremony. We arrived at the ceremony venue, and I was about to climb out of the car when Alpha Dane's strong grip held my hand and stopped me in my tracks.I turned to look at him, and for a reason I wasn't sure of, I saw a tinge of concern etched across his face. I was going to pull my hand out of his grip, but he tightened it even more.“No matter what, Princess... Never leave my sight. Is that clear?” he commanded, his words sending cold shivers down my spine as I wasn’t expecting him to say such things to me.He let go of my hand before turning his gaze away and climbing out of the car. He walked over to where my door was and opened it.“Is that clear?” he asked once mo
Astrid's POV.“No one dares lay a finger on my mate! Let her go now!!” a deep voice suddenly growled from behind, making me jolt for a split second. The moment I turned around, I saw that it was Alpha Dane, who walked swiftly to where I was standing with Camilla still holding my hand tightly without letting go.As he got closer, he grabbed my hand and pulled it out of Camilla's grip.“Mind what you do to her from now on!” Alpha Dane warned as he rolled his eyes. I stared at him without looking away, not expecting him to act this way if he saw me in danger. He helped me, which was both stunning and confusing. I was still caught up, wondering why he had helped me when Camilla's voice broke through my thoughts.“She caused everything that's happening to her!”“I don't care what she did, Camilla... just stay away from her!” he commanded as he turned on his heels. He was going to yank me out of sight, but Camilla wouldn’t take a chill pill. She wanted to see me suffer.“I know you are with
Astrid's POV. “What are you doing?” I stuttered with fear. My eyes bulged out at this moment. I wished to run away, but Alpha Dane held me glued to the ground. He was set; he was poised to rip my throat off. Just as he swung his claws to kill me at the spot, he unexpectedly halted, and I couldn't help but notice the innocence in his eyes. “Alpha Dane…” I fought to utter as I kept panting, trying to catch my breath at this point. His eyes were buried deep into mine, and from how I kept looking at him, he definitely wasn't going to take his eyes away from mine. Just as he kept staring at me, I noticed his eyes becoming heavy, and out of the blue, he fell to the ground and shifted back to his human form. “Are you okay?” Beta Ivar approached me swiftly as he inquired.“What happened?” I asked, looking confused for a split second. I turned to look at him, and that was when I noticed a syringe in his hand. It had purple substance all over it, and it made me wonder what it was. “Did
Dane's POV. “Alpha Dane!” The second I heard my name from behind, I turned swiftly to know who it was. Sighting the one person whom I wished to make mine, I didn't hesitate to charge towards her. Without looking back, I bounced on her, and although it made her scared, the monster that had taken over me didn't care, not even for a split second. I wished to control myself, but it was impossible to do so. I was trapped inside this monster, and I was going to be blamed or accused for killing my mate after years of searching or trying to find her. Just as my claws were raised to the air, prepared to slit her throat, I suddenly froze at the sight of her blue, vibrant, glowing eyes. “This is strange.” I said inwardly as I kept staring at her. It was as though her eyes had a command; it was as though they were meant just for me.They suddenly made me pause in my tracks; they made me feel calm, and I wasn't sure why. Just as I kept staring into her eyes, I felt a sharp sting hit me from
Dane's POV. “Alpha Dane, we...” Beta Ivar, who had sprinted up to me the second I left Astrid's room, spoke up, but before he could finish his words, I cut in, halting his statement to me instantly. “Why did you tell the enemy about my curse? Why?” I fumed as I asked him with a deep voice, my eyes piercing through his as I awaited his response. From how he kept acting, there was no doubt that he was scared of me, and there was no doubt that he never expected such questions from me. "Alpha, I...” he stuttered before pursuing his lips, obviously not sure about what he was going to say to me. Well, he better retains a good explanation. Cursed by my father, I swore never to show it or reveal it. The plan was to conceal it till the end, till it was broken, but as it stands, Astrid, my enemy Mate, knew about it, and believe me when I say I'm convinced it wasn't protected anymore. With time, everyone will know about it because she loathed me. “Speak up this minute, Ivar! Why were you
Dane's POV. “You are beginning to love her, Alpha Dane.” Ivar uttered, making me freeze in place for a split second. There was no way I was falling in love with my enemy. Just as I kept struggling to get my thoughts together, I recalled the moment I had woken up from my slumber, how I had reached for her hair, and the way my heart raced just by that simple act. How I was immediately attracted to her, how I wished never to watch her wake up and rise from my body. It all came back to me, but that doesn't mean I would accept such a fact. “No! Never! There's no way I'm falling for the enemy! Astrid is the enemy, and no matter what happens, falling in love with her isn't the plan.” I asserted, running my fingers through my hair. It would be a disaster to fall in love with Astrid. “It's not going to be a bad idea, Dane... The moon goddess has given you your mate, and it's left for you to…”Beta Ivar was immediately cut short by me. “It's left for me to use her however I want!” I declar
Dane's POV. “She is being tagged as a threat to the Greenstone pack, and she must go on her knees to beg Camilla!” Edmond declared with an audible voice, provoking me the more. “You want my mate, your Luna to...” I was going to say, but almost immediately, he cut in, making me stunned for a split second. “Oh no, Alpha Dane... She isn't my Luna yet; she isn't our Luna yet, not until she goes to make things right! We wouldn't want to fail the trust of Alpha Halfdan, and I'm pretty sure you are aware of it.” He stated, my eyes were becoming vicious as I gazed around the room. No one was speaking; no one was saying anything to him or trying to correct him. He had paid off each of them, and it made it difficult for any of them to stand up against him and oppose him. “Well, Edmond…” I stood to my feet, and with slow but deliberate strides, I walked over to where he was seated. Maliciously, I sat down on the table, making me stay pretty close before him with a smirk curling up across m
Dane's POV. “They will never get what they want, even if there is to be a war!” I proclaimed with a tightened fist. I couldn't believe what they had tried to make me do or my Luna. Just as I was raging or kept thinking about what the elders had said to me, Beta Ivar walked closer to where I was sitting, and because he was comfortable around me, he sat down on the table facing me. “I'm sorry for what they said to you, Alpha Dane… But don't you think it's best to avoid a war? We are still trying to make the pack the most comfortable and best pack... Let's avoid this war” Beta Ivar gave a hint, but I didn't take his direction. That was never the kind of suggestion or opinion I wanted from him.“Listen to me, Ivar... If there's going to be a war because my Luna has refused to kneel before them, then I'm willing to accept it and fight! Don't you get it!?” I snapped as I tried to explain this to him. He should know how belittling it was if my Luna went into their pack and went on her kn
