RAELYNN
I was fuming as I drove to my childhood home. Everything that had happened earlier kept replaying itself in my head like a nightmare stuck on repeat. Although I'd expected foul play of some kind, the party had been more terrible than I'd imagined. What's worse is that Rai had shown up. He was the last person I'd expected to see, and yet, my heart had gone out of control the moment I'd seen him. All that pain and grief I'd chosen to bury had swelled to the surface. Tightening my grip on the steering wheel, I took a deep breath and willed myself to be calm. Even so, I couldn't shake off my emotions. I could still remember the way he'd looked at me. He didn't seem to have changed much. His hair was a little longer than usual, and there was a different sharpness in his stare. On arriving at the house, I stormed into my room to pack up my things. I heard the door creak open, but refused to pay attention to whoever had just walked in. "Rae, what's wrong? Won't you stay a little longer?" I heard my father say, and I turned to look at him. "I'm leaving. I can't stay here any longer," I said, and his eyes widened. "Did something happen at the dating party? I'm sorry, it's all my fault. I just wanted--" "Dad," I said through gritted teeth, and he grimaced. "Something must have happened. Please calm down, Rae. Let's talk about it," he said, and I stared at him, disgusted. There he was, pretending to be concerned about me. At this point, I couldn't help but wonder why my mother had married him in the first place. "Why didn't you tell me it was not just a dating party? Why didn't you tell me you invited a herd of pigs to the party and made them think they would marry me?" I demanded, and he furrowed his brows at me. "I wouldn't do something like that to you, Rae. I will admit that I was desperate. But it really was a dating party. You were supposed to date only one Alpha. I didn't…” "What did I expect? Of course, you haven't changed," I snapped, turning away from him to resume my preparation to leave the house. "I know you don't want to listen to me. But you should at least wait until tomorrow morning. There's a situation going on in town. The authorities have put a curfew in place," he said, and I groaned in annoyance, glancing at the wall clock, which read 09:48 PM. "Fine. I just want to be alone right now," I said, and he nodded. Quietly, he exited my room, and I sank onto my bed, burying my face in my hands. Deciding to leave by the next day, I freshened up and lay down on the bed. My phone suddenly rang out. A grin worked its way onto my face when I saw that it was Klaus who was calling. Picking up the call, I leaned back on the bed, my smile widening when my children's faces appeared on the screen. "Hi, Mommy!" they beamed, their eyes glowing with glee. "Hi, girls!" I said, and they giggled. "When are you coming back?" Savannah asked. "Tomorrow," I said, and they cheered in delight. "Don't forget the chocolate," Suzie pointed out with an innocent look on her face. "Of course, I'll get you some." "Mummy, you don't look happy. Did you meet Daddy?" Savannah said, and I blinked, unable to hide my surprise. I'd never told them about Rai. In fact, they didn't know that I was once married. "Why do you think I met your daddy?" I asked, and they both went silent. At this point, I was more curious. "Suzie. Savvy. Tell me what you know," I said, and they sighed. "We kept asking Uncle Jay if he knew our daddy. He got mad and told us not to talk about Daddy because Daddy is a bad man," Suzie said. "Uncle Jay said Daddy made you cry. We don't like Daddy. We just want you to be happy," Savannah frowned. It was unexpected. Jay was Klaus's beta. I didn't think he would spill the tea to my twins. They seemed to be taking it well though. "It's okay, Mummy. You can tell us if you met him. We will get revenge for you if he makes you cry again," Savannah continued, and Suzie nodded. I smiled, warmth filling my heart. They were so perfect. "Do you even know what he looks like?" I teased, and they both nodded. "We can ask Uncle Jay," they chorused, and I grinned. "Don't worry, okay? I'm happy. I have you two after all," I stated, and they giggled. "We love you, Mommy." "I love you too, my babies," I beamed. "Can we have goodnight kisses?" Suzie said, pouting at me. "Of course, sweetie." Grinning from ear to ear, I kissed the screen of my phone, and my girls burst into giggles. "Goodnight, Mommy!" they said, and the line went dead. Turning over on my back, I stared at the ceiling. I was happy now. And I wanted it to stay that way for the rest of my life. Rai was in the past now. He meant nothing to me. I closed my eyes and let myself drift into slumber. That night, I dreamt of a perfect family with a faceless man. The next morning, I woke up irritated because even though the man in my dreams had been faceless, I could tell that it had been Rai. After my morning routine, I grabbed my belongings and headed out of the house. My father stepped out of the house, a worried look on his face. "Will I see you again?" He asked, and I shrugged. "Maybe," I said, and he heaved a sigh. "I'm sorry for everything. I really am," he told me, and I cracked a smile. Right then, I sensed that I was being watched. "I should get going now," I said, placing my things in the car. When I entered the car, I noticed the car parked a little distance from the house. I had a feeling that I was being stalked. So I drove the car down the street while monitoring the car following behind me. Deciding to confront my stalker, I stopped the car and stepped out of it. My stalker stopped driving as well. Taking a deep breath, I came to a halt and waited for my stalker to appear. The door opened, and a pair of black heeled boots stepped into my line of vision. I looked up only to find that my stalker was no other person than Nadia. In her poor attempt to appear less conspicuous, she'd donned a hooded leather coat and black pants as well as a pair of sunglasses. Even so, I'd recognized her right away. "I didn't think you would stoop this low. Clearly, I was wrong," I said, and she scowled at me. Then she took off her glasses. "I heard rumours that you were still alive," she said, and I chuckled. "Oh really? Didn't you come running after me because you believe that I'm a threat?" I said, and her expression darkened. "Who the hell do you think you are? You are a lowly wolf with nothing to your name, you're not worthy of being a threat to me," she hissed. I snorted in amusement. There it was, the childish behaviour she'd always hidden behind her mask of innocence. She wouldn't have confronted me if she didn't think I was a threat to her relationship with Rai. I was tempted to tease her about it. But I was in no way interested in Rai or his relationship with her. "I should get going. It was nice catching up with you, Nadia," I smiled, turning away from her. I'd barely walked a few feet away when she yelled at me. "Stay away from Rai! Know your place, bitch!" She spat, and I rolled my eyes. "Goodbye to you, bitch. I hope we never meet again," I drawled, and she growled at me. I ignored her as I made my way to my car. As I hopped into my car, I decided that I would return to the city and leave my past behind. If only I knew how wrong I was. ... "Doctor! Doctor! Please, help us!" Someone yelled. I was in my office reviewing a patient's chart when I heard the sudden chaos that had suddenly broken out in the building. Rising to my feet, I hurried out of my office and hurried to the emergency unit. Rose rushed to my side, a worried look on her face. "Is the patient a human or a non-human?" I asked. "A non-human. He's a werewolf. He was brought in by his girlfriend. He's been running a fever. He's bleeding from his eyes, ears and nose. He seems to be in a lot of pain," she said, and I winced. "We still don't know if it's a contagious illness or not," Rose added. "What pack is he from?" I asked. "Black Claw Pack," she said, and I stiffened, a feeling of foreboding resting on me.RAI I stared at the several messages I hadn't bothered to read until now. Raelynn had sent a ton of them five years ago. She must have been desperate. I was curious. How had she managed to stay hidden for all these years and why did she have to fake her death? Heaving a sigh, I closed my eyes and leaned back on my study. Right then, there was a knock on the door. "Come in," I said, opening my eyes. Austin, my Beta strode in with a grim expression on his face. "Did you find anything?" I asked and he heaved a sigh. "Honestly, not much. Raelynn has lived like a ghost for the past five years," he said and I frowned as I mulled over his words."There has to be someone behind her. Someone who is capable of wiping her records," I said. "I'll keep looking," Austin affirmed and I sighed, rubbing my temples. "I understand that you're curious but she's no longer your wife, you know that, don't you?" He continued and I gave him a blank stare. "I'm aware of that. You don't have to tel
RAELYNN Bumping into him along the hallway had set my nerves on fire. Rai had dared to ask me why I was at a hotel. We were nothing to each other now. Nonetheless, my blood kept heating up each time we encountered each other. Even now, while he was still out of it, he still possessed the ability to piss me off. I hated the fact that I felt concern for him while he sat on the floor looking dazed."I found you on the floor. You were not breathing. I had to perform a CPR on you," I said, trying not to cringe at the memory of my lips touching his."What?" His eyes widened."It looks like you have a fever too," I pointed out and he blinked, failing when he attempted to stand up. I sighed, annoyance bubbling inside of me. Why wouldn't he sit still? He winced and I bit my lower lip, noticing the way sweat dripped down the sides of his face.I held out a hand to touch his forehead, my frown deepening. He was burning up. "I know. I had no choice either. Since when did it begin?" I
RAELYNN Rai heaved an exasperated sigh and sank into his chair. He stared at me for a moment, his face emotionless. "Fine. We have a deal," he said and I held out a hand for a handshake. His gaze lingered on my outstretched hand before he accepted my handshake. When our gazes met again, my breath hitched in my throat. Rai had the kind of gaze that never ceased to make me uncomfortable. He'd always had such beautiful amber eyes which used to light up whenever he smiled. But, at the moment, those eyes were cold and empty. I had never seen him look so soulless. It seemed to me that he'd changed as much as I had. Refusing to have him notice my discomfort, I pulled away from him and returned to my seat. "How long has it been?" He asked, leaning back on his seat. "I've been a healer for three years," I told him and he merely blinked. "You don't even have a normal wolf," he spat and I narrowed my eyes at him, offended. It was true that I didn't have a wolf of my own. Nonethel
RAELYNN "Alpha Rai wants you back?" my father said, his voice laced with disbelief. "You saw us together at the medical centre, didn't you?" I said and he frowned."You said it was for pack business," he stressed, his frown deepening."Alpha Rai knows about what Stefan tried to do to me. He was there that day," I stated and he went pale."That's not possible. He was not invited--""It doesn't matter now. What matters is the fact that Alpha Rai was the one who protected me from Alpha Stefan," I continued. "You're such a good liar. You almost made me believe your ridiculous story," Maurice said."Please, Rae. Don't turn your back on us. We can't stay in debt like this," my father pleaded."If you're so adamant on repaying your debt, you can still do so. I'm not the only daughter you have. You can marry Caroline off to Alpha Stefan. They will make such a perfect match," I said and Maurice stormed towards me, lifting her hand in a bid to slap me. However, before she could actual
RAI "Forgive me, Alpha Rai. I just thought it was the right thing to do," the Omega who knelt at my feet pleaded, her head bowed. I stared at her in disgust. The emotions surging through me was slowly becoming a massive wave. A part of me had always thought of the possibility that Raelynn was not guilty of the offence I'd accused her of. But when this situation smacked me in the face, it left me feeling like a mess. I looked up at the sound of the knock on the door, my stomach tightening. It must be her, I thought as I moved away from the omega and sank into my seat, trying not to show how stressed I was. "Come in," I said and the door jerked open. Raelynn stormed in, accompanied by the sound of her stilettos hitting the floor. She paused when she saw the woman kneeling by my desk. Then, she narrowed her eyes, her brows creasing up."You told me you found the culprit," she hissed, her tone laced with annoyance. "I did," I confirmed and she approached me, placing her handba
RAELYNN "There have been new cases of the infected in the past twenty-four hours. There's a high chance that one of us is infected right now," Austin, Rai's beta said from his position by the door of my office. "What do you think, Alpha Rai?" I said, folding my arms across my chest.Rai leaned back on his seat, his face stoic. "If anyone is infected, it's most likely Austin," he said and his beta scoffed. "Have you learnt anything new about the infection?" Rai asked, his voice tight with tension. Anyone who saw us seated in my office would sense the edge cutting tension swirling around us. I had expected this, especially after the words we'd exchanged the day before, in his study. It was clear that we both planned to pretend that we were unaffected by each other's presence. But this was my office. My territory. If anyone was going to be uncomfortable, it had to be Rai. Even so, he was pretty good at keeping his features blank. "The illness has different stages. There hasn
RAELYNN "Thank you," I said and the stranger's smile widened as he picked up my pepper spray bottle to hand it over to me."What's your name?" I asked. "Kyan. You?" He said softly. "Raelynn. Nice to meet you, stranger," I responded and his smile widened."Are you having trouble with your car, Raelynn?" He asked and I eyed him with uncertainty. Even if he had saved me from a threat, there was a chance that he was a bigger threat himself. "It's okay not to trust me. I just want to make sure you're alright," he said, moving towards my car. I stared at him, watching him as he shrugged off his red suit jacket. He tossed it at me, startling me. He winked at me when I caught it midair. It was odd to see him working on my car while he was dressed in an expensive looking attire. His clothes appeared to be neatly tailored to fit his leanly muscled physique. This meant he had to be on the same level as Rai. "Enjoying the view?" He suddenly said and I looked away from him, biting m
RAI A few hours before, "How is she, doc?" I said to Alexander, my family's private doctor as he shut his briefcase and turned away from Nadia who was lying on the bed with an unusual pale tint to her face. When she'd called me a few hours ago, I didn't think she was in such a bad condition until I got to her apartment to see her lying on the floor, panting and sweating."She'll be alright. She just needs some rest. Her heat period got to her, that's all," Alex replied and I furrowed my brows, puzzled."You didn't know? She's been in heat for three days. She needs to be properly attended to, she's your chosen mate after all," he continued and I sighed, my gaze resting on Nadia who had her eyes closed. "I understand. Thanks, Alex," I said and he beamed, patting my shoulder. "Just take care of her as you should," he said and left the bedroom. Letting out a sigh, I turned away from her bedside only to pause when I felt Nadia's grip of on my hand."Stay with me," I heard
RAELYNN I clenched my fists as I watched Rai head towards the staircase. He was trying so hard to pretend that he was perfectly fine but I could see right through him. He seemed to have forgotten about the fact that I was a doctor. Every slight tremor that racked his body was a sign that he wasn't feeling well. With my senses in hypermode, I could even detect the strain in his breathing. I waited patiently, hoping he would eventually cave in, and turn around to confess the severity of his condition. Instead, he continued to push forward. Angry tears clouded my eyes. Did he not trust me? Why wasn't he saying anything? I wondered, my insides twisting up into angry knots. "Stop," I droned, my patience wearing thin. His muscles stiffened with tension when he halted. Slowly, he turned around to look at me. My heart sank when I saw how bloodshot his eyes were. He probably didn't know about it. "It's no use hiding it. I can...I can tell..." I blurted out, my voice quivering."Yo
RAI Few Hours Ago, "You're late," Nadia said as I sat down beside her in a dimly lit bar. She was wearing a mini black dress tonight with her long hair pulled back into a high ponytail. I glanced around, but found that we were the only ones in the bar apart from the bartender. Nadia must have rented the bar for the night. "Well, I'm here now, aren't I?" I said and she reached out to take hold of my hand, gazing into my eyes with a stifling intensity. I knew she was casting a spell on me. I felt it build up inside of me, lashing against my strong will like a stubborn wave. Eventually, she eased up on me and leaned in to plant a kiss on my cheek. "Did you meet her today?" She asked and the spell swelled to the surface, attempting to stop me from lying to Nadia. However, my will was stronger. Refusing to show the pain it was causing me, I kept my expression schooled and downed a glass of tequila. "I have better things to do. She doesn't deserve my time," I drone
RAELYNN Power pulsed inside of me, clouding my senses. I had never felt my wolf so strongly. It was exhilarating. Knowing that Rose had approached me on purpose and had lingered around me right up until this moment made me pissed. I concluded that she was involved in something shady. Since I didn't know exactly what her deal was, I was even more pissed. "Go straight to the point, Rose. No, wait. Is Rose even your real name?" I hissed and she grimaced."I never lied to you about my name," she said and I hissed at her, annoyed."How am I supposed to believe that?" I demanded. Rai grabbed my hand, entwining my fingers with his. When I looked up to meet his perturbed gaze, my frown faded. "I'll tell you everything but we can't talk right here. Your enemies might be listening in on us right now," Rose said and I sighed, bringing my free hand to my temple."Let's go in," Rai suggested and I glanced at him, instantly recalling that he was supposed to meet up with Nadia. "I can
RAI Five Years Ago, I stormed into my bedroom and paused in the centre of the room, freezing as a familiar scent wafted into my nostrils. Raelynn's scent. It was all over the place. It reminded me of the brutal decision I'd made a couple of hours ago. I closed my eyes, and all I could see was her tear-filled eyes. I rubbed at my chest, willing the ache to fade away. The door creaked open and Nadia sashayed in, butt naked. There was a glass of wine in her hand. She swayed her hips from side to side and joined me on the bed, gulping down her wine at once. I sat up slowly, my body feeling heavy. "You did the right thing, you know? I'm so proud of you for not letting her walk over you," she said, bringing her lips to mine. I closed my eyes and was once again, reminded that she didn't taste like Raelynn."I want you," she whispered in between kisses, fumbling with the buttons of my shirt. I was drunk, but it wasn't enough to drown out the guilt that was raging inside of
RAELYNN "Come on, let's go. Can you run?" He asked softly. Steeling my resolve, I nodded once. Together, we both hurried away from the building. There was a black SUV waiting by the corner. When we got to it, Hunter opened the door of the car and I sat down on the passenger seat. He joined me shortly after, settling down on the driver's seat. A lump formed in my throat as he manoeuvred the car out of the parking space, my gaze resting on Rai who had suddenly run into the side walk, his chest heaving. Looking away from him, I folded my arms across my chest and leaned back on my seat. "Hold on, okay? I'll get you out of here soon enough," Hunter said and I released an exasperated sigh. For a few seconds, a thought crossed my mind. Was I really doing the right thing? It wasn't okay to just walk away from the chaos but I couldn't help it, I valued my own peace of mind. "Are you alright?" Hunter asked when we were a good distance away from the paparazzi. "I'm fine," I muttered,
RAELYNN When Rai showed up in the dining room with a worried look on his face, I knew that something was up. At this point, it felt like a never-ending saga. He sat down on a chair and the kids greeted him with cheery voices. He beamed at them, his gaze softening. He was such a natural when it boiled down to interacting with our kids. Moving over to his side, I placed a hand on his shoulder and leaned closer to him. "Did something happen?" I asked and he flashed me a tight smile. My heart sank. Whatever had happened seemed to be far worse than I'd imagined. "I got a call from Jared--" he was interrupted by the sound of my ringing phone and I glanced at it, puzzled."It's probably a call from the medical centre," he told me and I grabbed my phone from the table. Rai was right. It was a call from Rose. Swiftly picking up the call, I lifted the phone to my ear. I could hear the wailing of sirens through the phone."Doctor Lynn, it's me, Rose," my assistant said, her voice qu
RAI Every single fibre of my being wrestled for control over the spell that had kept my mind captive. It killed me to watch Raelynn's beautiful eyes fill up with tears and terror. The more I tried to fight the spell, the more it's grip on me tightened. Suddenly, Raelynn stopped struggling. Then she reached out to touch my face, her teary eyed gaze meeting mine. "It's okay. I won't hold this against you," she choked out and I pulled away from her, stumbling across the kitchen to slam a hand on the wall. I could hear Raelynn coughing behind me, struggling to catch her breath. My chest tightened, angry tears pricking my eyes. 'Kill her!' An angry screech invaded my senses, sending a jolt of pain through my skull. 'Damn you,' I thought, doubling over as the pain worsened."Rai?" Raelynn said as she approached me. I shook my head frantically, mentally pleading for her to maintain a good distance from me. When she continued to approach, I knew I needed to leave. However, before
RAELYNN "Mum... w-what's going on? Am I...dead?" I croaked, terror gripping me. "You're not dead, silly. You're just detached from your physical form," she responded and I sighed. "Rai doesn't know that. He looks terrified," I pointed out, feeling sorry for Rai who held on to my limp form in horror. "He'll figure it out," my mum said. "This strange blue light has a lot to do with my magic, doesn't it?" I asked her and she nodded."It's why I asked you to accept it. Become one with it. That way, it can't be stolen from you," she said and my eyes went wide. "Stolen? What do you mean?""There is a reason why you're destined to be Rai's partner. He's meant to complete you," she said.I blinked as she placed her hands on my shoulders and looked into my eyes. "Listen to me clearly, you must not let go..." Her voice faded and she also faded out of sight. Struck with urgency, I called out for her but got no response. Instead, I was sucked back into my body. I opened my eyes slowl
RAELYNN "I want to claim you, Rai," I whisperered. "Can I?""Right here?" He rasped, his eyes darkening with lust. I smirked, leaning up to kiss him on the lips. Cupping the back of his head, I deepened our kiss and scratched his scalp gently. A moan escaped his lips and he tightened his grip on my waist. Pulling away from him, I buried my face in the crook of his neck and pressed a kiss there. Letting out a guttural growl, he grabbed my free hand and brought it to his crotch. "Look what you do to me, woman.” He groaned. Knowing that I had that much effect on him made me feel powerful. I could feel my wolf pushing to the surface, my fangs making an appearance. Rai let out a deeper groan when I ran my fangs over his skin and swiped my tongue over the spot. "Do you smell something burning?" Rai suddenly commented and I frowned, pulling away to sniff at the air. And sure enough, the food was burning.Alarmed, Rai turned off the cooker and grimaced at me."This is all your
