Fifty eight

AUTHOR’S POV:

Roman fiddled with his phone in hand as he paced around the room, pondering. His gaze flicked to his right hand, still wrapped in gauze for a few more seconds before turning on his phone, having made up his mind. He keyed in a few digits on his phone and dialled it before leaning against a wall, patiently waiting as it continued to ring. It took a while before the call was answered, and a low female voice sounded in his ear, “Hello.”

The moment he heard that voice, his gaze constricted, and he shifted on one leg, tempted to hang up. But, he was also too curious to do so. He wanted to know why she did that; just one question. However, he forgot that as she was about to hang up when he didn’t speak and she grumbled, “If you’re not going to speak, I’m going to hang up.”

“It’s me,” he answered, digging his left hand in his pocket.

“Who?” She asked, so naturally that it made him grit his teeth. She really didn’t know who he was, but he wouldn’t mistake her voice for another,
