CHAPTER 44.2

THE NEXT DAY, I awoke without Lucien. There's no sign that he slept here last night, and that thought bothers me. But I couldn't blame him. It was my fault; I should have listened to him and told him about Luther. I sighed and decided to fix myself. I should go down and find him. I know that I'm at fault here but I need him to hear my side.

I heard a knock from outside so I hurried to open the door.

"Good morning, Bella." It was Nereza, along with two other housemaids.

I returned her greetings and motioned them to enter. The housemaids placed the food on the table. Soon after, the two excused themselves but Nereza chose to stay. I wish to inquire about Lucien but I decided to fill my stomach first.

"Lucien had that prepared," Nereza confessed in the middle of our silence.

I stopped eating and smiled a little.
