AUTHOR’S POV

“Hold on,” Miriyam sat up quickly and glared at the Beta, “What are you doing here then?”

Elixir smiled, “You already know.”

“Never.” Miriyam shot up from her seat and walked away from the dining table. She stood by the window, her back turned to Elixir as her gaze was fixated on the scene outside her home.

“Listen–”

“No! I'm not going.” She suddenly turned to face him, “Don't you see? You're putting my head on the line for you?”

Elixir shook his head, “I'm putting both our heads on the line for this. I'm going to go with you, okay?”

She scoffed, “If that was supposed to make me feel better, then you did a terrible job at it.”

“The Minister asked this of me.”

“Then let him do it himself!” She yelled back. “Neither you nor I have the King’s ear. He's an unpredictable man.”

Elixir leaned his back against the chair, the ankle of his right leg placed on the knee of his left, his hands folded as he stared at the anxious Elder with a smirk.
