Always Hated

Third Person's pov

Fred and Xander sat in opposite corners of the room, their eyes locked in a fierce glare. Neither one was willing to look away, to break the stalemate. They were both simmering with anger, but neither one wanted to give in. The tension in the room was palpable, thick and heavy. Their mother stood in the middle of the room, her eyes darting between her two sons. She was caught in the middle of this battle, and she didn't know what to do.

Xander broke the standoff, turning away from Fred and marching up the stairs. His mother watched him go, her brow furrowed with worry. She turned back to Fred, her eyes blazing.

"What you've done is inexcusable," she said, her voice shaking with emotion.

"You can't treat people this way, no matter what they've done. I know you're hurting, but this is not the way to deal with it." Fred looked away, his jaw clenched. He knew she was right, but he couldn't bring himself to admit it.
