The bell for the close of school went and Miss Nadia packed her books and left. The whole class soon resounded in noise as everyone prepared to leave for the day, most saying goodbye to their friends. Jeremy was no exception.
"Bye Brooke, I'll see you tomorrow." Jeremy told his friend as he strapped his bag to his back. "Bye. I'll come by your place later." Brooke replied.
"Sure, why not?" Jeremy returned and they parted ways.
Skipping to his house which wasn't too far from school, Jeremy whistled happily. Everything was going well, his life was great. Not perfect, just great. Jeremy Sanders Watson was a teenage boy of 16 who excelled in his academics. Sure he wasn't an A+ student but he always strived to be higher than average, he never wanted to disappoint his mum,she was the only thing he had and he loved her to pieces.
She was the only one who was there for him when his father suddenly walked out of their lives when he was ten. It had been six years and she struggled and worked hard to cater for all his needs doing three jobs a day. She wanted to make sure that he never realized the absence of his father in his life and he never did,he never had any reason to complain.
He was always grateful for the simple but happy life that he lived with his mum and that's why if you saw him on the road, you'd see a handsome blonde teenager with blue eyes and a handsome face walking home happily.
Sadly, all good things must come to an end and the storm clouds were gathering.
Jeremy arrived home and noticed his mother resting on the couch, she looked very pale and he grew concerned.
After kissing her cheek,he inquired about her wellbeing. "Mum you didn't go to work today, are you alright?"
"Yeah. I was feeling very lightheaded and decided to take the day off today but I'll be fine soon,I just took some aspirin. So,how was your day at school?" She assured and then asked.
"The usual, nothing special. It's always coming home and spending time with my beautiful mum that makes my day." He said and she smiled.
"That's so sweet of you, I'm glad to have you as a son. Let me go make you some lunch." She said and tried to get up but he stopped her.
"No you're not well, rest and I'll make myself something." He said and she shook her head. "When did you learn to cook? You've never even turned on the stove before so how will you make something for yourself." His mother was truly stunned.
"I'll eat something from the fridge, meanwhile, you should go up and rest, you don't look too good." He reassured but she insisted.
"No,I'll never let my son eat like a hobo while I'm still alive. Go up to your room and do your homework, I'll bring your lunch up soon. I promise I'm fine, the medicine just needs sometime to kick in. I'll be fit as a fiddle before the end of today." She said and left for the kitchen before he could even protest.
He took his bag and went upstairs to start off on his homework. About an hour had gone and Jeremy still hadn't heard from his mother,he was beginning to worry and couldn't help going to check up on her.
When he got to the kitchen, his blood went cold as he saw his mother sprawled lifelessly on the floor. He was in a frozen state for about ten minutes before his senses finally kicked in and he called an ambulance.
The ambulance soon arrived and his mother was immediately rushed to the hospital where she was diagnosed of brain tumour. Jeremy felt his world come crashing down right in front of him,his mother's life was in danger.
The doctor had requested to speak with a close adult relative and when Jeremy disclosed that he had none other than his ailing mother, the doctor had no other choice but to break the news to him.
According to the reports, not only did his mother have brain tumour, she also only had one year to live if a craniotomy isn't performed as soon as possible because the tumour had been present for quite a while. More frightening was the cost of the surgery, not a penny less than $30,000
Jeremy was in dismay, his mother had been so worried about him, working day and night to secure his future but had neglected her health in the process.
He was ready to do anything it took to save his mother but he couldn't help but wonder where he'd get such a large amount at such short notice.
He had no relatives to run to for help and he only had one friend,Brooke and Brooke's family weren't all that well to do either.
As he cried and he wandered around the hospital hopelessly and aimlessly, he couldn't help but notice that a suspicious looking man was following him around.
He suspected foul play and decided to act smart. Increasing his pace,he jogged out of the hospital and hid behind an ambulance, wanting to be sure if his suspicions were right before confronting the man.
His instincts were soon proved right as the man exited the hospital and seemed to be searching for someone outside. As the man walked further away from the hospital's entrance seemingly looking for him,Jeremy came out of his hiding place and confronted him.
"Who are you and why have you been following me?" Jeremy asked, his voice hoarse and his eyes red from crying.
"Hmph! Smart boy, perfect for the job." The man seemed to be speaking to himself.
"I'm talking to you!" Jeremy half yelled. He was already so stressed and this man was choosing to get on his nerves.
"I couldn't help but notice that you looked distressed back in the hospital and so I asked the doctor and he told me about your sad situation." The man said with an accent that Jeremy couldn't quite place.
"And what's it to you?" He desperately wanted to know this man's intentions. "Well, you're a fit and able bodied teenager............" The man started again and before he could finish, Jeremy cut him off.
"Just cut to the chase,I've got a sick mother to take care of." Jeremy snapped.
"I like your personality, you'll be perfect for the job." The man said.
"What job?"
"Let's just say it's a one time job that can give you............. $30,000." The man said and Jeremy's eyes widened.
"What kind of job will give me that kind of money that easily and quickly?" Jeremy knew it couldn't be anything good.
"Before I give you the full details, you first have to accept to do the job." The man stated.
"Whatever it is,as long as it can give me $30,000 soon,I'm in." Jeremy accepted.
"Then we have a deal." The man said with a wicked smile, taking the young boy's hand in a shake.
Jeremy sneaked through the harbour and spotted the man who he had been told to meet. Though he had never seen the man before, the man waving to him fit perfectly into the description which he was given. He walked stealthily to where the man stood and the man gave him a small package. Jeremy feared the contents of the package, since he had to collect it so sneakily and he was being paid heavily for just collecting it.What if it was drugs? Or a gun,no it couldn't possibly be, it was too light but what if it was a bomb? Jeremy tried to shake off the bad thoughts. Whatever it was,he had already agreed to deliver it,he would take the risk just for mum,he could do anything for mum.He knew that if she found out the kind of things he was involving himself in,she would be heartbroken but the truth still remained that he wasn't doing this for himself, he was doing this for her. It would be just one job and she would never have to know. If she asked where he got the mone
Immediately the contents of the syringe was empty, the man stepped back and Jeremy immediately began to jerk. His skin paled, becoming almost as white as snow and he began bleeding from both his eyes and even his nose. The man stood from a distance and watched while the boy's body went through painful yet devastating changes. The mutagen that had just been injected into his system, was supposed to mess was his DNA and give him superhuman abilities so he could be recruited to serve under the master.Master Xersius's plan was to create people with superhuman abilities that would be solely under his control, with which he could take over the world. They would serve him without question like brainless robots because he had mind control powers,he was an extraterrestrial after all.He had taken a mad scientist, Dr James Hogwarts into his control and was using the man to create the mutagen which would build him superhuman weapons and Jeremy unfortu
He went in immediately the doctors told him he could see his mother. She looked so much more better and he felt so relieved, she even smiled on seeing him.He immediately went in for a hug and melted into her embrace, he had missed this. After they separated, his mother looked at him weirdly and asked. "Your clothes feel wet and what in the world happened to your hair?"Jeremy grew confused and looked at his reflection in a surgical tray and his eyes widened, it took everything in him to prevent himself from gasping, his hair was purple! He tried to act normal. "Um..... My hair...... It's actually kind of a long story." He stuttered, he wasn't very good at lying and had to come up with something quick or else his mother would find out about his little stunt not too long ago."A long story, huh? I wanna hear it. I can't believe I was in the hospital fighting for my life and you were busy dyeing your hair, and purple? Why would you choose purple of all colou
Jeremy kissed his mum goodbye before speeding to school, he didn't need to wait for the bus. He arrived earlier than usual and just had enough time to look for Brooke. His eyes soon fell on the nerdy boy as he made his way into the hall. Brooke had very pale skin that had refused to hold a tan and green eyes that seemed dulled by the glasses he wore. His brown hair was messy and fell on his face,it was clear that he was a very handsome, just like Jeremy."Hey man,it's nice to see you're early today." Brooke teased. Don't let the glasses and geeky appearance fool you,Brooke can be quite sassy at times though he is quite shy around girls, especially Makayla Troy, his crush. Jeremy rolled his eyes at the comment and just lightly dragged Brooke towards the Janitor's closet."What the hell?" Brooke was about to question what was going on but Jeremy cut him off. "There's no time for questions, I've got a serious problem." Jeremy started and waited for Brooke's reaction
Brooke's uncle lived in a cabin. It was a huge cabin just around town. Dr Shields welcomed both boys into his humble abode which was quite messy, immediately sending the message that he was single. "So to what do I owe such a sudden visit from you boys?" Dr Shields asked after offering them some soda. "Uncle Ash,Jeremy's got a problem. He's suddenly developed superpowers. He can control air and run with the speed of light, plus he heals pretty quickly." Brooke explained. "I'm gonna need a detailed explanation of what you're talking about." Dr Ashton Shields requested and Jeremy went on to narrate his experiences all over again. Dr Shields nodded and told them to follow him. He took them to another large room which happened to be his lab. He had a fully equipped lab with all the tools and devices they would need. "First,I'll need a blood sample." Dr Ashton said and went to a table and brought back to syringe. Jeremy looked away, he was scared of needles.
Saturday around rather slowly but Jeremy thrived nonetheless. After taking care of the chores and making sure his mother didn't need anything ,he super sped to doctor Ashton's cabin."Good morning Jeremy." The older man greeted. "Good morning doctor Ash, I came as soon as I could, so what are we doing today?" Jeremy sounded excited. "Won't you wait for Brooke?" Dr Ashton questioned. " Nope. He's running errands, he won't be here until this afternoon." Jeremy relayed."OK. So for your first training today, you'll be doing some breathing exercises." Dr Ashton revealed and Jeremy couldn't help swearing."What the fuck?""Language, young man." Dr Ashton warned, his tone strict. "Sorry, it's just that it sounded preposterous. I breathe every day, so how is a breathing exercise going to help me gain control of my powers?" Jeremy sincerely wanted to know."Although I'm not an expert in these things, I know that's the right way to s
School was the usual. Nothing interesting ever happened for Jeremy because he wasn't a popular kid and he always tried to stay as invisible as possible. He increased his efforts after finding out about his powers. He had been going to Dr Ash's for training for about two weeks now and his mom had never suspected a thing. He had had to lie that he joined an after school book club but the bright side was,he had gotten better in controlling his powers. After the bell for his last class went, Jeremy got up and packed up his books. He was about to approach Brooke but paused when he saw Brooke staring so lovingly at Makayla who was busy talking and laughing with her friends,Jeremy smirked. Now was a good opportunity to tease Brooke. He approached him calmly and snapped his finger in front of his day dreaming friend, shocking the boy back to the present."Lost in love,I see." Jeremy teased and Brooke glared at him but said nothing.
