Chapter 2: Hospital

Leo

"What the hell did you just do?" Liam charges towards me as he shifts mid-air.

"You wanted to kill her!" I send him a mindlink.

"I just wanted to reject her."

"But you don’t know the effects of your rejection on her."

"Why are you concerned about her? She is my girlfriend. Do you want her?" He growls.

"Don't be ridiculous."

"You can have her, I couldn’t care less. She is of no use to me. Let me reject her fir..."

"She is your mate!" I snap.

"You should look in the mirror. You rejected three mates. You have no right to judge me."

"You are not going to reject her!"

"I can't have a human mate, man. Especially since there is a possibility of..." He trails off.

"Being the alpha in the future?" I interject, the bitterness in my tone unmasked.

"I don’t see why not. Especially since your dad can’t stand..."

I hiss at him, and I growl while aiming at his neck, but I stop myself. After all, the pack, especially my dad, shouldn't find out about my secret visits.

"You think you are invincible with the scent masking potion and all that, then you come to the forest to play spy." He grunts.

"Enjoy being my father's lap dog while it lasts. He is going to turn on you."

"There is no place for you here," he spits.

"Liam," Lucy's voice puts our tiff to a stop as we turn our heads in the direction of her voice.

I immediately turn the other way and I run before she reaches the forest. When I get to the edge of the forest, I shift back and grab my clothes hidden behind a tree.

I drive to campus to work on my research, but on my way go the lab, I smell Willow's fresh scent and I follow it's trail, thinking about Liam and how power hungry he is. He is going to reject her, and I will stop at nothing to prevent that from happening.

My sister should be the alpha, not him. If I make Willow stay as far away from him as possible, that could prevent the rejection. Until I find a way to humiliate him in front of the pack and to see my dad's face when he discovers that his replacement son has a human mate.

I arrive at what is probably Willow's apartment, and I lift my knuckle to knock on the door.

"Can I help you?" The blonde woman opens the door. Her eyes are puffy, and her hair is in a thousand different directions. She frowns when she looks up at me.

This is going to be fun.

"Your life is in danger, Willow. You need to stay away from Liam."

"Wow! Did Lucy send you?" She rolls her eyes.

"Why would Lucy send me? I'm here to give you a serious warning."

"Look, I would like to stay and chat, psychic, but I have to go. Keep those warnings to yourself." She locks the door, and brisk walks, as I follow behind.

"Fine, I'll leave, but we both know that tonight, he would've killed you if he could. You saw it in his eyes."

She rolls her eyes again, and I walk in a different direction and hide behind a building.

She gets in the cab, and I follow her in my car while keeping a safe distance. She gets off at the airport.

Where is she going? I don't even know her surname to get someone to check for me. I easily eavesdrop on her conversation at the front desk.

I wait for her to go through the gate, and I find out that her flight would be leaving in two hours.

"Liam? Yes babe, I'm on my way to the hospital, thank you for your support." She says with the phone to her ear.

What is this? She has just witnessed him getting married, then she still melts under his smooth words. Mate bonds are the worst.

I book first class ticket with a different airline that would be leaving in two hours as well, and I groan at the amount of time I will be spending at the airport.

We finally arrive, and I depend on her scent to guide me. She gets in a cab and I run to another cab.

"Follow that cab." I say to a first cab driver that I come across.

"Dude, are you a stalker?" I take five hundred dollars and wave the bills in the air.

"Lets go," the cab driver says.

I arrive at the hospital, and I sit outside while she walks in.

I hear a scream that could probably be heard throughout the entire hospital, I follow Willow's scent, and I see the nurse's arms around her.

Her cries pierce through my heart, and I tear up when I remember how I felt on that fateful day with my mom.

I reluctantly run to her, and I ask to hold her. The nurse allows me, probably assuming that we are siblings, and she doesn't even look to see who is hugging her.

"You are going to be okay." I keep whispering, and the screams have turned into sniffling.

I smell Liam's scent, and my wolf stands at attention. He rushes to the waiting room, and removes my arms around her with as much force as he can muster.

"Babe," Liam says.

Her face lights up a little when she sees him.

"Babe, he is gone" She starts sobbing.

"I'm so sorry baby. What happened?"

"Limbicus overdose."

"What? I told you I'm going to find the person responsible for the creation of such a drug."

She nods while wiping her tears.

"I will do everything in my power baby." He looks at me with a smirk on his face. "We are going to find him."

Willow looks at me in surprise, as if she was not aware of my presence before, but she doesn't say anything.

"Babe, who is this?" Liam nods in my direction.

"A psychic," she shrugs.

Liam glares at me. "What are you up to?" He sends a mindlink.

"Willow."

A woman who looks almost the same age as her stands a few feet away. We all look at the lady who had just called her name.

Willow purses her lips, and they stare at each other for some time.

"You can go guys, thank you babe." She gives Liam a peck on the lips.

Then, she looks at me. "Goodbye psychic," and she shakes my hand.

I can't help but smirk and then Liam chuckles.

We walk out of the hospital.

"Stop stalking my girlfriend," he grumbles.

"You are married. Does Lucy know about your human mate?" I raise my eyebrows.

"Willow is my girlfriend, Lucy is my mate."

"I wasn't born yesterday, Willow is your mate. Did you forget that I stopped you from rejecting her?"

"You don't have to worry about that anymore. I want to keep her around for some time." He grins mischievously.

"What are you up to?"

"I have other plans. She is so mad right now. I'm going to use her rage to my advantage. If I play my cards right, we are going to land you in prison."

"You are the worst, you are actually trying to take advantage of such a fragile situation..." I clench my fists.

"Just to give you a heads up, she is a psycho. If she finds out you are the creator of limbicus, she is going to go nuts."

"Liam, she needs you." I try to grasp at some non-existent hope that he might at least feel something for his mate.

Liam gets in a cab, beaming with pride and probably thinking that he has threatened me, but for Jessica, my little sister, I would do anything.

I linger at the hospital just incase Liam is bluffing and he comes back to reject her. I use my super hearing to tune in on her conversation with her family, and I overhear the conversation between Willow, her sister and her mother. She bolts out of the room while wiping tears.

"What on Earth have you done?" Chloe, my sister whispers while she glares at me, and then her attention shifts to Liam and the stalker who are walking away. She stares at the two guys until they are out of sight, and they look like they know each other "What do you mean?" I ask her."Huh?" She says absent mindedly. "You can stop staring. They are gone.""Those guys are out of league. How did you manage to get them both?"I leave her standing, and then I go to the waiting room on the third floor to find mom alone, crying and looking at my brother's picture on her phone. I sit next to her, and hold her hands to try to comfort her. "Mom, we are going to be okay." Tears stream on my face."It's all your fault. You told me to leave, and I couldn't say goodbye to my son." Her eyes are filled with rage. "I didn't know that he would..." I trail off."I have a feeling you sneaked in and killed him because you were jealous of how close we were.""Mom, I loved Marcellus." LeoWhat did I just do? I kissed a human who might probably get her head filled with useless romantic notions about us. Even if she was my mate, I would've rejected her right away. Hence, I want to ensure that Liam doesn't reject her until I expose him. Having a human mate might be the most humiliating thing. Worse, if she was my mate, Alpha Hunter would be proven right, that useless excuse of man who calls himself my father. The kiss was the best I have ever had in my life, but I hope her loneliness doesn't get her attached to me. I care about her as a person, but I would never let her get that close to me. I get up, and write a note, informing her that my flight is up, and she can check out whenever she wants, and the hotel would send me a bill for extra costs that I will settle. When I get off the plane in Seattle, I drive to my lab apartment in Tacoma to prepare myself for the continuous deal with the devil, but this time, I feel more guilty than I ever did before. I stare at Liam's name as my phone rings, and I decide to get back to him when my guilt has died down. I get up and go straight to the living room, and I find a note from psychic or stalker or whatever his name is. After reading the note about him catching his flight early, I take a quick shower and head to the airport. When I arrive in Seattle, I take a cab to THC club in Tacoma, the club that I hate the most for its high sales of limbicus, but it is the only club that is open during the day. The club is midnight dark, and illuminated by neon lights. There are people dancing, there’s kissing and smoke that is enough to fill the entire city. The smoke makes me cough, and I look around for a place where there is a possibility of not being disturbed. I head to the bar, the staring eyes making me feel like a lamb in a lion’s den. “Hi baby girl. What do you drink?” A large man in a biker’s jacket sits on my right as soon as I sit down. I sigh. I just wanted to be sad and alone, but h

I didn’t set an alarm clock, and I should already be in class with Dr. Brown, in order to prepare for the lesson.I yank myself out of bed to take the quickest shower of my life, and I wear the first dress that I set my eyes on, with my heart already drumming as I think of my 15 minutes run to the chemistry lecture room.“I’m sorry I’m late, Doctor Brown,” I say breathlessly as I enter the empty lecture hall twenty minutes before class. “Hello Willow Gordon,” he looks up from the computer with a wide grin. Doctor Brown is the stalker? “Couldn’t my life be any worse?” I freeze on the doorway, and cover my mouth with my hand when I realize that I said it out loud. “Is that a nice thing to say to your new boss?” He raises his eyebrows. “No,” I shake my head. “Did you stu

Beta Duncan, who is my adoptive father, gets up from his seat, and walks towards me, standing taller than usual, and he pats my back with a wide grin that he struggles to hide. I just nod to indicate that I'm okay. I drop the head on the table, in the centre of the meeting house where the elders are gathered, and look I around the elder pack members who are looking back at me with pride on their faces. She smiles when she sees her breakfast and tells me how much she loves me. Professor Malino always knows what to do.” Her mouth is filled with food. I raise my eyebrows, and she smiles sheepishly. “Don’t look at me like that, you haven’t made me breakfast in a long time.” She says after swallowing. “Send her my regards and tell her I will meet her later before going back to Carkeek Park.” I nod in response, and I leave. Then there are people and cars surrounding the area, with blue and red lights flashing. I try to trace Jessica’s scent, but I struggle to find her. I make a U-turn and park my car on the side of the road to see what’s going on. ‘Asclepius, I need you to take control. Please help me find my sister.’ I ask my wolf to come forth to so that my senses can be elevated. My wolf takes control, and he smells Jessica’s scent coming from the scene of the accident. He lets out a distressed howl, and I let myself regain control. I take deep breaths to try to remain calm, and I slowly head to where the crowd is gathering. “What happened?” I ask the first person I set my eyes on. “These kids and their motorcycles. Poor thing didn’t see an approaching truck. That was unfortunate.” The lady with the grey hair says as she walks away. A motorcycle, a truck? My

My wolf’s excitement gets me irritated. ‘Moon goddess, I swear, I don’t think I deserve this punishment.’ I say internally. ‘This is my mate? Out of all people on the planet, it had to be her!’ ‘Dude, why didn’t I feel the mate bond when we were at the hospital?’ I ask my wolf. ‘Look at you, learning through your mistakes.’ He replies smugly. I decide to deal with my wolf later, and to find out what my intended mate was doing in Willow’s dorm room. I decide on the bold approach, to act as if I already know she is the suspect. “Why? How could you do this to your own sister?” I glower at her. She holds the doorknob, pushing the door towards me. I stand rooted in the doorway, as my legs turn mushy, and my heart beats like I have been running a marathon. I look around my messy room, with the couch moved and the cupboards open. This person even has a key, and they locked the door when they finished messing up my room. What if someone is still in here and they locked themselves in? They could easily see me with the light on. “Hhhhhhi. Hello?” I try to control my trembling voice. I don’t hear a word or any movement. I slowly close the door and I hold it tightly before locking. Then, I run to the police station on campus. “Someone has been to my room, and they have a key.” I say between breaths. “Calm down.” One officer says. “It’s you. The wolf girl. I just saw that video of you walking with a wolf and I knew that you shouldn’t be messed with.” “But I haven’t seen you in any science class before, during any year. Students don’t know the names of most classmates, but we know each other’s faces.” “I’m the quiet one who prefers to be undetectable.
