I wake up to the most excruciating pain all over my body. The first thing I see are white walls. A strong smell of disinfectant passes through my nose. I look around me and I think I’m in a hospital. It’d explain the horrible smell and why I’m wearing a hospital gown.
I can’t believe I survived. I really thought I was going to die. I’m wondering how I got to the hospital when I hear voices outside my door. There are none I recognize and the hospital doesn’t look like our pack hospital. Where in God’s name am I? The muttering stops and two people walk in. One is a doctor, and the other is my mate.
This is the first good look I’m getting of him. I couldn’t see him because of everything that was happening. Now that I can—oh my—is he handsome. He has the most beautiful piercing blue eyes I’ve ever seen in my life. His nose is straight, and his lips are perfectly sized, all red and ready for me to kiss. His jaw is straight and sharp making him look like a Greek god. He has raven black hair. It’s disheveled as if his hands have been running through it a lot of today.
“Hello dear, how are you feeling?” the doctor asks.
“I’m…” I try to speak but my throat is sore.
“Have some water. You’ve been asleep for a while so your throat must be sore,” the doctor says, handing me a glass of water.
“Thank you,” I say once I’m done downing the cup of water.
“Can you tell me your name?”
“Anastasia Smith,” I say, my voice lower than I was going for. I think my body is still exhausted from the attack.
“Alright, which pack are you from?”
“Dark Moon Pack. Why are you asking me these questions? Where am I?” I ask, getting confused with what’s going on.
“Honey, you’re in the Alpha King’s territory. We need to inform your Alpha about your whereabouts.”
I feel like my eyes are about to fall out of their sockets. How in God’s name did I get here?
“What did you just say? Who brought me here?” I ask, confused.
“I brought you here,” my mate says, speaking for the first time. He barely looks at me. He’s been staring straight ahead as the doctor speaks to me.
“My Mom must be worried sick about me. I need to go back to my pack.” My Mom, Matt and Chloe must be going out of their mind. Maybe not Matt. He did cheat on me. He’ll be happy I’m gone. I feel ready to cry.
“You’re not going anywhere,” the doctor says.
“Why?”
“Because you’re badly injured and you need all the rest you can get,” the doctor says.
“At least let me call my Mom and tell her I’m fine.”
“I’ll inform your pack Alpha. He will inform your mother,” my mate says.
“Thank you.” I sigh, relieved.
“Since I have the information I need, I’ll leave,” he says, and walks out of the room. I didn’t get to find out his name. The way he talks to me is so cold. I wonder why.
“You rest now. If you need anything don’t hesitant to press that button,” she says, pointing at the button close to the bed.
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome, rest now,” she says and walks out.

After the day I woke, I haven’t see my mate again. It’s been two weeks since I arrived at the hospital. I’ve seen only the doctor and a few nurses who take care of me. I was injured badly. It’s taking time for Eva to heal my wounds.
I’m leaving today and I can’t wait to finally see some color around me and escape these white walls. I finished changing into the jeans and white T-shirt the nurse brought for me. When I leave the room there’s a man waiting for me. He looks handsome but not as attractive as my mate. He has an aura of authority, but I don’t think he’s an Alpha.
“Hello, my name is Dante, but you can call me Dan. I’m his Majestic’s Beta,” he says with a soft smile.
“Hi, I’m Anastasia, but you can call me Ana,” I say, smiling back.
I know I’m in the Alpha King’s territory, but why is he sending his Beta to take me home? Maybe he has good relationship with my pack’s Alpha.
“Do you have everything you need?” he asks.
“I came with nothing.”
“Alright, let’s get you home,” he says and walks toward the door. I follow behind him. I’m so happy I’m going home. I can’t wait to see Mom and Chloe. I miss them terribly.
After leaving the hospital, we don’t go to a vehicle as I expected, but travel a few blocks and stop at a large mansion. People are staring at me as we walk, and I wonder why. I know I was badly injured, but I don’t think my scars look that bad. They should heal with time.
The Alpha King’s territory is beautiful. Flowers are everywhere and the houses are far bigger and more beautiful than the ones back home. I thought Dan was taking me home. Why did he bring me to someone’s house?
“Excuse me, what are we doing here?” I ask as we reach the front door of the mansion.
“I brought you home, like I said,” he says, looking at me like I have two heads.
“This isn’t my home. I thought you were going to drive me back to my pack,” I say, looking at him like he’s the one with two heads.
“Why would I do that?”
“So, I can go home.”
“This is your new home.”
“I don’t want a new home. I want to go back to where I’ve lived my whole life.” Why are they trying to keep me here? I know my mate is here, but it should be left for me to decide if I want to stay or not.
“You don’t have a choice.”
“Why would you say that?”
“You’re mated to the Alpha King.”
“Excuse me, mated to who now?” I ask, in shock. I don’t believe what he’s telling me.
“You’re the Alpha King’s mate.”
“That is not possible.”
I know that night I was attacked I guessed he was an Alpha but not the Alpha King. How can my mate be the Alpha King? He’s most feared and ruthless wolf in the known world. How can he be my mate? Is this a sick joke because I wanted to reject my mate? I can’t be mated to the Alpha King.
“I think you know it’s possible. You just don’t want to accept it.”
“Of course, I don’t want to accept it. He’s the Alpha King, for God’s sake. Don’t you know who he is?” I ask then remember he’s his Beta “What am I saying, of course you know who he is. You’re his Beta.”
“I know you have heard stories about how ruthless our Alpha King is, but I want you to know he would never hurt you.”
“I’ve heard stories of him hurting women.” The stories of his cruelty are terrifying.
“All lies, our Alpha King might be cruel but would never lay a finger on a woman.”
“You’re sure?”
“I can guarantee it.”
“Alright,” I say, feeling some of my anxiety reduce.
“Now, let’s get you inside so you can rest. I don’t want the Alpha to have my head if you catch a cold.”
“You’re joking right?” I ask worried.
“Of course, I am,” he says, smiling.
***
Dan left after giving me a tour of the Alpha King’s mansion. It’s beautiful like everything in this territory. It’s a lovely two-story building. It’s late at night and I’m waiting for my mate to come home. I still don’t know my mate’s name. I went to a human school so there was no special werewolf history class growing up and he looks a few years older than me. I doubt they would’ve spoken about him in history class if we had one.
I’m sitting in the living room waiting for him. It feels like an eternity when he finally comes back. I don’t see him at first, but I smell his scent and it’s lovely. I walk to the front door to meet him.
“Hello,” I say smiling once I see him.
“What are you doing awake?” he asks in a cold voice.
“I was waiting for you,” I say, my smile falling as I find myself confused.
“Why would you wait for me? Do you need anything?”
“No, I don’t need anything. I thought it’d be nice to wait for my mate before I went to bed.”
“Your mate,” he says with a dark chuckle.
“Yes, you’re my mate.”
“Yes, I am. But that does not mean I see you as my mate.”
“What do you mean?”
“Let me tell you something. Being mates means nothing. I don’t believe in mates, never will, never have,” he says, taking steps closer, spitting every word into my face. His beautiful blue eyes are dark and filled with anger. I don’t understand why he’s talking to me like this. Does he want to reject me? Please don’t reject me, my heart cries. I know I planned to reject my mate, but after being in his presence, I can’t imagine my life without him.
“Are you rejecting me?” I ask, feeling my eyes pool with tears.
“No. I’m not. But you’re going to wish I had.”
The next day, I wake with a million thoughts swimming in my head. One does stick out the most—what my mate said last night. Why would he say that? What does he mean? I walk downstairs after freshening up. I was sad I slept alone. I actually thought we were going to sleep in the same room. I know mates complete the mating process hours after finding each other. I walk downstairs to find a beautiful brunette standing in hallway. “Good morning, Luna,” she says with a soft smile. “Hello and I’m not your Luna yet” I say, returning the smile. “But you’re our Alpha King’s mate.” “Yes, I am but I have not been marked by him,” I say, showing her my neck. “Even so, I should still call you Luna.” “Not really. We could argue all day whether you should call me Luna or not. Can you please tell me who you are and why you’re here,” I say, cutting to the chase. “My name is Charlotte. I’m the beta’s mate. I’m here to take you to breakfast.” “Oh. Why can’t I have breakfast here? I remember seein
A few days have gone by, and things are still the same between Theodore and me. I found out his name is Theodore from Charlotte . You can guess how great our relationship is, given that I found out his name from someone else. I’m currently on my way to ask him if I can get a phone to call Mom and Chloe. I miss them. It’s been too long since I last heard or spoke to any of them. He’s working from home today, so I go to find him in his study. “What do you want?” he says, his tone harsh like always. His eyes are glued to the papers in front of him. I’m sure he didn’t need to look up to know it’s me. He must’ve smelled me. “I want to ask if I can get a phone to call my Mom,” I say, standing in front of his dominating presence. “Why would you need to do that?” he asks, stunning me with his question. “I miss her, and I want to know how she’s doing.” “She’s doing fine. I’ll tell your Alpha to tell her you miss her.” “How do you know she’s doing fine? Why can’t I speak to her?” Why is h
“Stop thinking about it, Ana. You have nothing to worry about. Now, why did you come to look for me?” she asks, and it takes me a minute to remember why. “I was hoping I could borrow your phone. I need to call my Mom,” I say, remembering the reason I came to look for her. “Oh, no problem, here,” she says, handing me her phone from her back pocket. I’m surprised she gave it to me without hesitation. I thought she’d ask why I came to her and not the Alpha. I was worried he might’ve told everyone not to give me access to their phones. I guess he’s not as bright as I thought. If he wanted to isolate me from my old pack, he would’ve told everyone not to give me a phone. “Thank you,” I say, taking it and quickly dialing Mom’s number. It rings for a few seconds before she answers. “Hi, Mom, it’s me, Ana. How are you?” I ask. “My baby girl! Is it really you? How are you? I hope you’re not hurt or injured?” “I’m okay, Mom. I’m not harmed or injured in any way.” “Thank God. When are yo
It’s been a few days since my breakdown, and I haven’t seen Theodore since. I’m grateful because I end up crying every time we see each other. But I also miss him. The mate bond isn’t helping because while I’m trying to avoid him, the bond makes me want to be with him. I’m in the kitchen making breakfast when Charlotte walks in. “Good morning, Luna,” she says, taking a seat on one of the kitchen stools. “I’m not your Luna. But good morning to you too,” I say with a soft smile. I’m happy she’s here after the way Theo kicked her out. I was worried she wouldn’t want to spend time with me anymore. “How are you feeling today?” Charlotte asks while I serve her a plate of scrambled eggs. If she’s here during breakfast time, that means she hasn’t eaten. “I’m doing okay; why do you ask?” “Thank you, and the Beta’s house isn’t too far away from here. I could hear you crying last night,” Charlotte says, with pity in her eyes while she eats her breakfast. “Oh, I’m fine, you don’t have to
I’m on my way to give Theo his birthday present and I’m nervous. I’m worried he might not like it or, worse, not accept it. I knock on his office door and enter once he says come in. I can’t believe he’s working even on his birthday. “What do you want?” he asks, not lifting his eyes away from the papers in front of him. “Happy birthday,” I say, placing the wristwatch in front of him. I got him a Chronograph black leather wristwatch. I hope he likes it. “Is that all?” he asks, stunning me. No, ‘thank you,’ nothing. Just ‘is that all?’ Really? You have got to be kidding me, Theo . “Yes, that’s why I came.” “If that’s all, you can leave,” he says, with his eyes still glued to the paper in front of him. “Alright,” I say and walk out of his office. I was expecting him not to accept my gift. But to say, ‘is that all’ wasn’t something I could’ve guessed. He leaves me dumbfounded every time. *** Later that night, when I’m done with my makeup, hair, and dressing up, I wait in the livin
Werewolves can get drunk if their wolf allows it. Eva understands why I need to get drunk tonight, so she isn’t preventing me. Technically, I’m not supposed to be drinking because I’m only eighteen, but since I’m a werewolf, it’s different. If I were only a human, I wouldn’t be allowed to drink until I was twenty-one. “Thank you,” I say to the Omega who just gave me another glass of wine. She’s made sure my hand wasn’t empty all night. I even know her name because of it. I think it’s Lily. I’m starting to get drunk after about five glasses of wine. I feel like annoying my mate, so I decide to go look for Liam so we can dance together. “Liam, Liam, Liam,” I shout his name as I look for him in the ballroom. I’m about to shout his name again when someone stops me. “Why are you shouting my brother’s name?” Theo demands, covering my mouth with his large hand. I lick his hand. I don’t know why, but I’m thrilled at his response. “Eww, why did you do that? Are you drunk?” he asks as he t
“Did he like your gift?” Charlotte asks while I eat my pancakes. “I don’t know if he liked it or not.” “Why?” Charlotte asks, and I tell her what happened when I gave him the gift. “I think he liked it but was too proud to tell you.” “You really think so?” Charlotte is about to reply but stopped when we hear laughter coming from the living room. We don’t have to wait long to see who it is. Theo and Scarlett are dripping with sweat and laughing about something Scarlett said. They must have gone running in human form. I watch as my mate’s face brightens up while he’s talking to Scarlett. This isn’t the first time she made him smile, but it hurts as much as the first time. He takes two bottles of water out of the fridge and hands one to Scarlett. “Thank you,” Scarlett says and takes her time to collect the water from Theo ’s hand. She made sure all her fingers touched his. I can’t believe this woman. “You’re welcome.” “So, I’ll see you later after I shower,” she says, batting
I hear the door open as Charlotte walks inside her guestroom. When I ran away from the house, I thought about crying outside, but I couldn’t bear the shame of someone seeing me cry so I ran to Charlotte ’s house. She sets the tray in her hand on the bedside table and takes a seat beside me. I don’t think I’ve moved since I laid down, crying. I finally stopped when my body had no more tears to give. “How are you feeling?” she asks, concerned. “Better. Thank you.” “That’s good. Why are you thanking me?” “It’s been hours since I came to your door crying like a baby, and you haven’t asked me why. Thank you for not pushing me to tell you what’s wrong. And for letting me to cry my heart out in your guestroom.” I arrived around noon and if my guess is right, it should be dark outside now. I can’t really tell because the blinds are down. “Sometimes it’s better to let people come to you with their problems than forcing them to tell you. Even if you want to know so you can help.” “Is it o
5 YEARS LATER I wake up to little hands touching my face. When I open my eyes, I lock gazes with eyes the same as mine. “Wake up, mummy, wake up, mummy,” Caleb says, slapping my face with his little fingers. I feel his little knees pressing into my stomach. He must be on top of me. Caleb is the male version of me. He has the same blond hair and blue eyes. He’s the cutest four-year-old out there in the world. “Good morning, sweetheart,” I say, grabbing his hands to stop him from hitting my face. “Good, you’re up, mummy,” Caleb says, dropping down from on top of me. He stands at the edge of the bed with his sister. “How was your night, sweethearts?” I ask, sitting up. I lift Amelia from the side of the bed, while she still has her thumb in her mouth. Amelia is daddy's little angel. She has Theo wrapped around her little fingers. I think she’s timid because of how much Theo smothers her. My baby girl is two-years-old, with blonde hair and blue eyes like her Dad and me. “It was goo
Our wing in the castle is like a small condo. It has everything—a living room, kitchen, and bedrooms. I walk to the living room to watch some TV while I wait for Theo to come back. An hour passes since Theo has left; he texts me that it’s taking longer than he thought it would and won't come back anytime soon. I decide to do something to fill up the time while I wait for him. I call Ekaterina and asked her to come along with me to the mall. While watching TV, a thought of how I could spice things up tonight for Theo comes to mind. Ekaterina and I drive us to the mall. “So, tell me how it went with Ava?” Ekaterina asks while I’m driving. “It went well. I’ll send her the code once Theo and I mate.” “I’m surprised you guys haven't mated yet.” “He had some important things to attend to.” “I guessed as much. Why are we going to the mall?” “I want to buy lingerie,” I say and feel my cheeks heat up. “Someone wants to spice up her first time. That's nice,” Ekaterina says, smirking
Theo and I are in a restaurant waiting for Ava to arrive; she’s a few minutes late but nothing to panic about yet. I’m about to dial her number and find out why she’s taking so long when she finally walks in. She looks around a little before spotting Theo and me. She smiles once she spots us in the midst of people and walks toward us. “Hello,” she says, smiling. My body shakes as a cold shiver runs down my spine when I see her smile. She looks so evil and wicked. If anything, it makes her look more mischievous. I know I shouldn’t judge her by her looks, but I can’t help it. The woman looks like the witches humans read about in their stories. Beautiful on the outside but ugly on the inside. “Hi,” I say. “I’m surprised you agreed to my offer, werewolf King. Aren’t you worried James will kill you once he comes back to life and finds out you killed his brother?” Ava says, smirking. James must be the name of Nickolas’ brother. “We’ll cross that bridge once you remove the curse,” Theo
The following morning, Theo and I wake up early and get ready to visit Ekaterina at the hospital. She isn’t getting better or worse. Her health is just stagnant. She needs to stay in the hospital so they can monitor her. I hope she recovers soon. When we arrive we knock on Ekaterina’s door before entering. “Hi,” I say, walking in. “My two favorite love birds,” Ekaterina says when she sees us. She doesn’t look so great today. She looks weak and thinner. I wonder why she isn’t getting better. The doctors don’t know why either. “How are you doing today?” Theo asks, concerned. I’m sure he’s significantly worried about Ekaterina’s health. “Better, the baby allowed me to drink water today,” Ekaterina says, smiling softly. “That’s good to hear. Where’s your mate?” I ask, sitting beside her on her bed after she shuffled a little to the side. “He stepped out to get something. He’ll be back soon.” “Oh, okay. We came to ask you something.” “I’m listening,” she says, sitting up a little
I groan in my sleep as I feel a terrible headache coming. I open my eyes as I massage my head. I’m not in my bed, I’m tied to a chair. I try to free myself from the ropes around my hands but the more I struggle with them, the more they burn my skin. It's like they’re silver. I look around me, and everywhere is dark. Where am I? I’m about to scream when I hear someone’s voice. “There’s no need to scream dear, no one will hear you,” a familiar voice says. Everywhere is dark so I can't see them. “Who are you? Show yourself!” I shout to the person in the room with me. “Hello, dear,” Ava says, appearing in front of me. “Did you miss me?” she says, using her long nails to touch the edge of my face. “Where am I, and how did I get here?” I ask, moving my face out of her reach. “You’re with me, that’s where you are.” “What the hell does that mean?” “It means what it means.” “Did you smoke crack?” I ask, my brows raised. “Why would you ask me that stupid question?” she asks, frowning.
I open my eyes the second my dream ends. I see Theo removing his teeth from my hand. That must be how he entered my mind. He opens his eyes, and a pair of widen blue eyes stare back at mine. I missed staring at those beautiful eyes of his. “Hi, Theo,” I say with a soft smile. “Anastasia is it really you?” Theo asks, touching my face. “Yes, it's me, my mate,” I say, with tears of joy in my eyes. I can’t believe I am alive, and my mate is in front of me right now. “I can't believe it,” Theo says, with tears of his own pooling in his eyes. “Me too!” “I missed you. Never leave me again,” Theo says, hugging me. “I missed you too, and I’ll never leave you again,” I say, hugging my mate back. Once he removes his arms around my neck, he seals my lips in a passionate kiss. He knocks the air out of me and fill my mouth with the sweet taste of him. I pass my hand through his hair as he deepens the kiss, pushing his tongue into my mouth. It feels like ages since we last kissed. I moan again
I leave Anastasia’s room after ensuring she’s still breathing. I walk down the hall to Ekaterina’s room. It’s been a week since Ekaterina removed the fire from Anastasia’s body. Since then, I thought my mate would wake up once she had enough blood in her body, but she didn’t. The doctors don’t know why and neither does Ekaterina. I am going to visit Ekaterina for a different reason right now. I knock on Ekaterina’s hospital door and wait to be told to enter before entering. I am the King, and I don’t need to knock, but I thought it would be proper to knock before walking in on my friend and my strongest Alpha doing it. I know it’s a hospital, and their chances of doing it are low, but the smell of arousal from the room made me believe it was possible. A shiver ran down my spine, just imagining myself walking in on them. “My King,” Kyler says, opening the door. His hair looks like someone was pulling it a lot, and his clothes look like he just threw them on. “Hello, Kyler. How are yo
I rush down the hospital hallway with my mate in my arms. I mind-link the doctors that I’m here. They meet me halfway with a stretcher. I placed Anastasia on it so they could take her to surgery. I wait outside as they try to save my mate’s life. I don’t know how many hours go by when the doctors step out of the operating room. I rush to the doctor to find out how Anastasia is doing. “How is she?” I ask. “The witch had already sealed her wounds, so we administered a drug to help remove the silver in her body. Most of it went out with her blood, but some remained. We’re also giving her blood right now. She fell into a coma because of the blood loss, so it might take a while before she wakes up.” “But she will live regardless?” “She should.” “That’s great. Where is she?” I release a breath of relief. “Let me take you to her,” the doctor says, leading the way to Anastasia’s room. I follow him. I thank the doctor before stepping into Anastasia’s room. My mate has IV tubes inserted
“Nickolas!” I shout as he is about to step out. He turns and faces me. “Let’s get this done with,” I say, running toward him, but I see something in my peripheral vision that makes me halt. That’s not good. Ekaterina creates a portal, but before she can pass through it with Anastasia, someone closes it and makes it disappear. Ekaterina has told me only one witch in the world could close another witch’s portal. The witch Queen. “Hello, dear, it’s been a while since I last saw you,” the evil witch says to Ekaterina with a smirk on her face. Ava must’ve told her sister, Rebecca, Ekaterina was here. Witches can send messages to each other by using spells. I want to keep my promise and help Ekaterina, but right now isn’t the time. Nickolas is getting away. I will help her once I’m done with him. I continue to run toward Nickolas. Grabbing him by the collar, I spin him around. I punch him square in the face, but Nickolas quickly heals from it. I hit him two more times in the ribs, but
