The Choice

Aleksander checked the spaceship's engine, power subsystem, steering system, communications system, and scientific instruments as they prepared to depart the Earth globe while maintaining a non-emotional demeanor. They were in a brand-new spacecraft based on the one that crashed and landed in a remote woodland on Earth.

He sighed heavily and climbed into the pilot's seat before turning on everything. It illuminated the spacecraft's darkest surroundings, with many windows, aluminum panels, and lights.

Marlon sat in the vacant seat and stated, "Capt., we can't leave just yet."

As he saw Marlo, Aleksander scowled sternly.

"Why the hell not?" He snapped.

"Dax is-"

Dax took the third seat behind Marlo with a formal "I'm here" expression. Marlo stared at the visitor blankly and remarked, "Oh, all set then."

"Yes. "I just took something important. Are we leaving now?"

"Yep. Just checking everything and ready to go…."

"But are you sure you don't need to say your last word to her?"
