Chapter 6

In a panic, my hand fumbled across the surface of my desk until my fingers landed on the office phone. Without thinking, I pressed the speed dial to the front desk and hit the speakerphone.

"Hello, this is the front desk," came Ruby's voice from the other end.

The moment Zachary heard her voice, his body visibly tensed before he slowly loosened his grip on me.

I took the opportunity to free myself from his arms, snatching up the phone as I coldly spat into the receiver, "Ruby, kindly escort the deputy director out of my office. And from now on, he's not allowed to step foot in here without my permission."

Without waiting for a response, I slammed the phone down and, without a glance at Zachary, marched over to the door and flung it open.

"Get out," I said icily.

Zachary's face darkened with fury, but he didn't say a word. He shot me one last hard look before turning on his heel and left.
