Jessamine slept right through lunchtime. As the afternoon sunlight streamed in, she rubbed her eyes which still felt sore. She might have cried too much.

The surroundings gave her the illusion of traveling back in time. The familiar room, its familiar arrangements, and even the ornaments on the bedside table hadn't changed—it was still what she had picked up from a small trinket shop.

Jessamine picked up a kitten figurine beside her. She had bought a pair, and there was one on Thaddeus' bedside table as well.
