MIRABEL POV

As I drove away from the hospital, I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that lingered within me. John's words kept echoing in my mind, "why does your blood match so much with Aliana’s child." But I pushed the thoughts aside, focusing on the fact that I had just saved an innocent baby’s life.

I thought about the child, so small and helpless, and my heart swelled with compassion. I had done it for the child, not for Aliana and Andrew, who had betrayed me in the worst possible way.

As I drove, the city lights blurring together, I felt a sense of detachment wash over me. I was erasing everything that had happened today, compartmentalizing it in a corner of my mind.

But the memory of Aliana's face, panicked and worried, kept flashing before my eyes. I wondered what she was thinking, if she had any idea what I had just done for her.
