Chapter 38

It was already late, around 8pm, when I heard the sound of John's car pulling into the driveway. I had been waiting for him, eager to welcome him home and help him with his bags. But before I could even take a step forward, Diana rushed past me, her long legs carrying her quickly to the car.

I opened my mouth in surprise, wondering how well she could catch up with her lies, lies that she is sick so she could get her way in this way into the mansion very well, my eyes wide with shock. I couldn't believe she had beaten me to it. Without another word, I turned and walked back inside, feeling a pang of disappointment and frustration.

As I entered the house, I could hear the sound of John's laughter and Diana's chatter. They were talking and joking, completely carefree. I felt a surge of anger and resentment towards Diana. Why did she always have to be so quick to insert herself into every situation?
