Chapter 1: The Unpleasant Shocking news.

I clutch hard to the table knife.

My heart swearing painfully as I am watching my husband and my sister openly flirting with each other before my eyes and None of our family bother to notice anything. Mari-gold keeps smirking as if knowing what she’s doing.

The chattering and laughter continues while everyone is enjoying the different delicacies on the table.

It’s my parents 26th anniversary and we are on in the mansion in celebration of it.

“Taste this, Carlton.” Mari-gold shoves out a piece of cake and offers it to Carlton, while staring at me for my reaction and my very own husband shamelessly opens his mouth for her to feed him.

“Mmmmm, Delicious” he exclaim as he munch on the cake, grinning in high spirits like a toddler with no problems in world.

When infact we had one. Few hours ago, we were yelling down at each other before we arrived at the mansion.

And it was over the photos that my sister sent to me when I was in court. If not for my years of experience as a skilled lawyer, I probably would have failed the case. Not to mention, it was a critical one.

It was a selfie of my husband and sister, in bed together covered in duvet which they probably took yesterday. And yesterday was supposed to be the memorial of our late son but my husband ditched it. He didn’t even respect his late son, instead he decided to have the time of his life with my sister. His mistress.

And when, I showed the photo to him, expecting a logical explaination, he didn’t show any course of remorse. He coldly threw a divorce document on my face and when I told him about my two weeks pregnancy, my own husband looked me in the eye and said, ‘Get rid of it!’ The pain I felt at that moment is unexplainable. It was as if my whole world crashed.

“I specially made it with the recipe you gave me.” Mari-gold continues to flirt with my husband, giggling like a slut. Indirectly rubbing it on my face that she and Carlton had become so close again to be sharing recipe.

Well, it’s not so exuberant that Carlton shared his recipe with her because he’s a professional world-wide recognized chef while also being the CEO of Stewart food company. So, he’d several cookbook where he shares secret recipes but it still hurts knowinf him and Mari-gold had been having an affair behind my back.

They are such a shameless traitor!

“Wow! Is that Carlton’s signature cake? Let me have some?” Mrs Stewart bubbles excitedly and everyone in the table all begin taking shares from the Coffee cake.

I scoff. I scoff hard.

Is no one really noticing that my sister is flirting with my husband Or they simply doesn’t care?

Well the latter must be the case because Mari-gold is so obvious. But who cares about me? I became the villain to my parents the day I married Carlton. And I became the worthless daughter-in-law to Carlton’s parents after my first child accidentally died because of me. And I’ve not been able to get pregnant ever since then.

So I’m not surprised if everyone is too engrossed in the moment, chattering, laughing, for No one to notice  the show Mari-gold is putting up with my husand.

I’m just here for formality sake. No one wants me here. Not even Carlton. He hasn’t taken a glance at me ever since we reclined at the table, not even once. The last time he Bart an eye on me was when he asked me to abort his child. We didn’t even talk on our drive down.

“Dahlia!” A deep masculine voice suddnely calls my name, calmly.

I feel a sharp sting in my palm and a warm liquid spilling out. Every eyes turns to me as I look at my palm to discover I just slit my palm with the table knife which I’d been clutching on to.

Ignoring it, I look up to face my father who’d called me.

“You’ve been quiet, what are you thinking about?” Dad asks with slight concern, his eyes lingering on my bleeding palm.

My eyes catches Carlton’s gaze on me. And if I Expect to see pity or concern in his sable eyes then, he greatly betrays me. Because his gaze is as cold as ice and unbothered.

“Nothing, Dad. I just have nothing to say.” I mutters, flickering my lashes to blink away incoming tears. I will never give them the satisfaction to see me break down.

I’m about to stand up to go wash up when Mrs Stewart voice suddenly stops me “Or maybe you’ve something to say,” she pause and I pass her a confuse stare. “Like what are your plans for my son. When do you plan to give him an heir?”

I know it’ll eventually result to this. Her gaze is stern and hostile as she stares at me. And So is everyone else. Probably waiting to hear the same old story, ‘we are trying our best’ but then Carlton speaks up.

“Mum please…!” He groans, gritting his teeth as his countainance changes to that of rage. Before now, I’ll be flattered, relieved that he’s trying to defend me but right now, the situation is different. I’m pregnant but I know that he doesn’t want it. All because he wants to divorce me.

And that’s the point that I don’t even understand.

“Oh please, Mrs Stewart,” Hearing Mari-gold taunting voice makes my blood boil instantly. I shoot her a death glare but she continues anyways.

“We all know that, Expecting a child from dahlia is like chasing the wind. But I’ve got great news though that might sound not so pleasing.” She smirks staring at me, then she gawks at everyone for their reaction. Of course, everyone has nothing but curiosity plastering their faces.

And then her next statement hits me like a bombshell. “The Stewart wi finally be having an heir because I’m two weeks pregnant for Carlton.” She drops the bomb with an over-exaggerated smile.

“What?”

My heartbeat froze.
