Jordan's POV
I take Rosie towards the park's ice cream shop, and she meets her friend from school in surprise. She tugs me towards the little girl to say hello. "Hello Ryle. I didn't know I'll meet you at this park, gosh. I like your hat by the way. This is my elder brother, Jordan." she said, introducing us. "Hello Jordan. It's nice to finally meet you. Rosie says you're nice to her. This is my aunt Miranda. She's nice to me too." The little girl squeaked. "Hello," I said politely and bring out my hand for a handshake. I can pay anything to stop the Miranda lady from staring at me as she is doing right now. "Oh, forgive my manners, I'm Miranda, Ryle's aunt. Your niece is such a beautiful girl. My niece loves her so much and you're handsome too. I... I mean, we all love you. Everyone loves you." She ranted on as I watched with a sneer. She holds my hands for a little while before releasing it, blushing hard. "I'm sorry, I have to cut you off. Rosie is my little sister, not my niece, and I appreciate the love, really, but I have to get going now. We need to make a stop at the merry-go-round and other places. We might talk next time perhaps," I said and attempted to leave. "Oh, we are going the same way, ain't we, Ryle? You said you wanted some ice cream and you wanted to... to play with Rosie. Right Ryle? She asked, looking at the little girl. "No aunt Miranda. I didn't ask for an ice cream, I asked for a milkshake. But I can play with Rosie if that's okay with you." the little girl answered which prompted a glare from her Miranda. To save the little girl from more glares, I waved my hands towards her. "It's okay. I'll order a milkshake and? What will you want Miranda?" I asked with obvious sarcasm. It's either she chose to be oblivious or she had problems understanding sarcasm. I put my smart money on the latter. "Oh, anything you can give me. Vanilla preferably," she said, gazing at me seductively. I rolled my eyes and got them what they wanted. "Can I go to the merry-go-round Jordan, pleaseeee?" Rosie whined. "Yes you can baby but I'll be next to you." I said, squatting to her level. "No, I want to ride next to Ryle. You and Miranda can stay behind us in any case something happens." she said, her eyes glistening with mischief. She's obviously playing the matchmaker innocently. Hard try Rosie, not gonna work. I smiled sweetly at her, just for her to know that I'm not oblivious to her little game. "I guess we have to stay behind then," I chuckled unamusing to Miranda whose cheeks became crimson immediately. I groaned inwardly and walked towards the ticket shop and got four seats for all of us. "Make sure you buckle up your seatbelts before we commence," the guard warned from the front. "You hear that girls? Wear your seatbelts properly," I said, especially to Rosie. She buckles her seatbelt and smiles at me. "All set," she said and I approved with a nod. The engine of the merry-go-round roared to life and I am surprised to feel someone's hands on mine. I looked at Miranda in surprise and she acted/ pretended terribly to be scared. "I'm aerophobic" she whispered sensual to my ears. I rolled my eyes inwardly because only a fool could believe her at the moment. She looked like she was anticipation the ride and not aerophobic. I wriggle my hands off her immediately the cars were descending and she struggled to hold me back but scratches my palms instead. "What the hell?" I screamed at her, prompting stares from other people including Rosie and her little friend. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to," She said and started crying, playing the victim of an unknown incident. I struggle to keep my frustration at bay. Women are really pathetic. "I enjoyed the ride. Let's do it again, let's do it again!" Rosie squeaked like a kid. "I'm exhausted Rosie. I can't go with you." I said. "It's okay. Ryle will stay with me and you'll be at the door immediately we're done," she said with a smile. "Alright," I said in defeat, "but not until you finish your ice cream. It's dripping already." I answered with a smile. She gulps her ice cream greedily, eager to get on the wheels again. "Take it easy Rosie. You'll choke," I said warningly. "She'll be fine." Miranda whispered in my ears. I forgot how close she was. I shift uncomfortably and sit with Rosie until she finished her ice cream. "I'm all done. Can we get going now?" She asked with her cute eyes. "Alright Rosie. Make sure to buckle up your seatbelts before the start, promise?" I said sternly. I didn't want anything to happen to her under my watch. "Pinky promise," she said and scouted off. I watch with heavy heart as she enters her twin seat with Ryle and blows a kiss to me. I catch it and hold it close to my chest. "You must really love her," Miranda said again. I gave an irritating shrug but she wasn't taking the bait. "So, do you have a girlfriend?" She asked looking at me inquisitively. "Look Miranda, I appreciate the chitchat, but I bet you, no romantic relationship will work out between the both of us, do you understand?" I asked sternly, staring at her. "You are not gay are you?" She asked with a chuckle. "My sexual relationship is off limits," I said with finality. In the heat of the conversation, I didn't hear the murmurs and gasps that got everyone staring. I turn back to look at the merry-go-round but what I saw stopped my heart from beating for a while. "Rosie?" I screamed the first word on my lips.Michelle's POVMy smile irritated her as she gave me a frown in return."How much is your rent," I repeater, in case she didn't hear me before. "You can't be serious Mitch. You really want to pay back my rent?" She asked in surprise."I am serious. Anything to get you out of my life for good" I said, meaning it."And where do you want to get the money from?," she said and I don't miss the sarcasm."But I already apologized!" She screamed when I don't respond, prompted glances from other customers.I gave a silent apologetic look to the customers before facing her. "An apology isn't enough for hurting me. It isn't and you know it. You betrayed me and made my boyfriend cheat on me." I answered sardonically."Well, I don't want you to pay the half rent. I want to stay with you for a while. Just do this for old time please," she begged genuinely.I stand up in finality. "When you need your rent, you let me know, now if you should excuse me, I have to get back to work." I said and sashaye
"Rosie?" I screamed before dashing towards the smokey gathering. "I'm sorry Sir, but you can't go in there." A security guard said, trying to hold me down. "Get your fucking hands off me. My little sister is there and I need to save her," I said, locking eyes with him. "I can understand your emotions but we are doing the best we can. However, you can't stop the fire can you? The fire fighters are helping the children. Your sister will be safe, that I promise you." He said before turning to leave. I hate that he's right. I can't do anything about the fire that erupted. I feel so mad and helpless that I can't be here for Rosie when she needs me. I run my fingers in my hair and pace around for a while before giving up and started towards the scene. I need to do something, anything to help my sister. I walk towards the place determined not to stop until I see Rosie when I stop dead on my tracks. I saw three men trying to unbuckle Rosie and Ryle from the twin seat. I chuckle at
Mitchelle's POV It's been a week since Chole visited at my work place. Lizzy has been exceptionally overprotective of me in a good way. My boss still thinks we are a things and looks at us suspiciously. I walked in on him eves dropping on Lizzy's conversation. It's Friday night and I walked back tiredly to my apartment. I am surprised to see my house manager at my front door, apparently waiting for me. "Hello. I didn't know you were out. I was about calling you," he said with a croak. I attempted a smile because I had a long day and I only needed a shower and a long sleep. "Can you come in?" I asked tiredly. "I didn't plan to stay dear. I came to remind you about the increase in the rent." He said with a smile. I furrow my brows in confusion. "What increase?" I asked. "You didn't forget about the increase did you. You were reminded two weeks ago." He said slowly as if he understands my confusion. I remember that now. Apparently, I decided to tell Chole about it but w
Jordan's POV It turned out that Jason was bluffing about being the reason for Rosie's accident. He has been persistent with his disturbances and threats since then. It's been a week since Rosie's accident. Fortunately, Ryle wasn't at the hospital for long. She had a few cracked ribs and lost two molars and had Miranda gushing over her the moment she was wheeled out of the emergency room. Thankfully, we got home before Lucy could watch the news and search frantically for us. "You haven't had a conversation with me ever since that day. Talk to me, what's wrong?" I asked her the moment she turned to leave the dinning when she sighted me. "Nothing is wrong. I'm very fine," she said, removing my hands from hers. "No, you're not, and we will talk about it now." I said, pulling her towards a chair. "I don't want to do this right now, Jordan," she said defeated. "I don't too, but this is where we are, so tell me," I said. Mitchelle's POV I can't believe I was scammed online. I wept like a child, wondering what exactly I did wrong to the universe. I had a few days to be sent out of my apartment and I figured it would be wise if I started earlier to pack. I brought my boxes and started with the stuffs I knew won't be necessary for the time being. I genuflect where I will run to and stay for the time being. For a slight second, I almost considered Chole's proposal and immediately removed it from memory. "I can't allow her in after all she has done to me. Who knows, she might kill me the next time," I said, shaking my head repeatedly. I resume work the next day dejectedly and sluggishly. I decided that if my boss was cold-hearted to pay me, I can also be cold-hearted to work. "What's wrong with you? Why is your face that way?" Lizzy asked the moment she spotted me playing with the cleaning towel. "I'm considering my options, Lizzy. I will be thrown out soon enough if I don't pay up." I answere
Mitchelle's POV I see Lizzy waiting expectantly for me at the door. "So? How did it go?" She asked in panic. "I told him he was an asshole and he gave me $20 dollars," I said with a satisfying grin. "Oh my God Mitch, I'm so proud of you girl. You finally put him in his place," she said with a smile. We giggled like kids until we entered into the store room. "I can't imagine his face when you told him that. I'm literally on top of the world girl!" She said still bemused by the incident. "Hopefully, he'll find a replacement. I pity the poor girls." She added with a mischievous sneer. "Girls? Wait... Don't tell me you're also..." I said confused. "Yes Mitch. Do you think I can stay and endure him? No baby, I'm out there to get a life like you are." She said without care. "Did you do it for me?" I asked emotionally. "I wish, but no. I did it for myself. Besides, I'm 23, I need to get myself a man." She said giggling. "Oh Lizzy. I really will miss you." I said teary
Michelle's POV I wait till dusk with my three luggages downstairs. The portal could not linger for long and left as soon as I payed him. I finally sighted my aunt coming back from wherever she went to and heavied a sigh of relief. At least, she didn't leave me till the next morning. "I've been waiting for ages Aunt. You didn't care to leave your keys behind or something," I said irritated. "Seems like someone has lost her manners. You never told me you were coming around today did you?" She asked before going upstairs. She was still as grumpy as ever! I made three trips carrying my heavy bags up to her floor without assistance. I was drenched with sweat by the time I was done with the last one. "You can retain your old room if you want. But just remember, nothing has changed." She said before disappearing into her room, shutting the door noisy to tell me not to disturb her for anything. I am elated because I won't mind sleeping on the couch, as long as I had a roof over
MICHELLE'S POVI didn't want to get my hopes up, so I maintained a neutral look as I walked with the water. I walk towards her room and find her clutching her head with a frown. "What's wrong?" I asked, seeing her furrowed brows. "I...I think I have a concussion. The pain is unbearable." She whimpered and I stare at her in wonder."Do you think we should visit a hospital?" I asked."No, I'll be fine. I just need a pain relief drug and everything will be perfect," she said confidently and I find myself believing her. I help her take a pain reliever with the glass of tap water I fetched. I surprise myself by patting her back reassuring as she wrinkled her face from the taste of the medicine. I waited for the medicine to take effect and probably get a story behind her injury before leaving. I watch her gaze and break eye contact with me repeatedly. "What do you want to tell me aunt?" I ask making it easier for the both of us. "Nothing really. It's nothing," She ranted. Her eye
MICHELLE'S POV I decided to find my footing around Aunt Rita's new place and subsequently search for a job. I knew that getting a high paying job will be difficult at my aunt's place will not be easy. I walked down the busy streets of Florida, feeling a sense of desperation creeping in. I had to find a job, and fast. My aunt's promise and the dwindling funds in my bank account were taking a toll on my mental health and I know that sonner than later, the little amount I have on me will finish too. As I turned a corner, after walking aimlessly, I spotted a small café tucked away on a quiet side of the street. The sign above the door read "Cozy Cup Café," a name I know Lizzy will definitely laugh at. What caught me was the aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafted out, enticing me enough to come inside. I pushed the door open and stepped inside, my eyes adjusting to the warm lighting. The café was cozy, with comfortable-looking armchairs and small tables scattered about. The walls w
