“Doctor Blake, you can't do this. Just work on her, I'm going to pay the money.” She pleaded, but he shook his head.
She had rushed Audrey to the hospital and the doctor had told her that Audrey's heart condition had deteriorated, and the little girl would die if they didn't commence treatment immediately. The money Annabel had in her account wasn't even up to half of what the doctor had said, and she tried to reason with him, but he wasn't listening.
“Look, Miss Walter, this isn't a charity organization. I've told you to bring half of the payment as a deposit, so we can commence treatment immediately, but it seems you aren't ready. We can't work on her for free,” The doctor said and turned to leave, but Annabel held his coat.
“Doctor Blake, please, I beg of you. She's my only sister, my world, my everything; she's the only one I have. Please, don't let her die. Take the one with me. I'll look for more to pay, please.” She pleaded.
“I'll be in my office, Miss Walter. When you're ready, meet me there with the money.” With that said, he walked away.
Annabel quickly got up and ran to the ward, where Audrey was placed. She burst into tears when she saw how lifeless the girl looked. Her face was drained of all colors and her breathing was unsteady.
“I'll gather the money, Audrey. I can't watch you die!” She cried and ran out of the ward, but bumped into Roland.
“You!” She frowned. It was all his fault that she lost her job and now had no way of raising money to pay for her sister's treatment. “I hate you!” She snapped and wanted to walk away, but he drew her back.
“I want to help you.” He smiled, his eyes not leaving her body. He had witnessed all that happened between her and the doctor, and wanted to use it to his advantage. After the incident at the hotel, he had stalked her to this place, and he was glad he did. She wanted money badly, he wanted her body, so it was going to be a mutual benefit kind of thing.
Annabel scoffed and yanked her hands away from him. “I'm not here to waste time. I don't accept people's help for free, especially people like you.” She spat.
Roland chuckled. “Who told you that I was going to help you for free?” He laughed. “Nothing comes for free, my darling. I want you to help me, and I'll help you too.” He licked his lips.
Annabel got a whiff of what he wanted to say and scoffed. “Just leave me alone.” She snapped and turned to run, but he held her hand and dropped a card in it.
“Meet me there in case you change your mind. I'll be waiting for you.” He snickered.
“In your dreams.” She glared and ran out.
Roland smirked as he watched her retreating figure. “You'll come back to me, Annabel Walter.”

Annabel ran to the hotel and knelt before Mr. Mike.
“Mr. Mike, please help me. My sister's life is at stake. Pay me, please.” She pleaded.
“You're no longer my employee, Annabel. What payment are you talking about?” He asked, his gaze fixed on the laptop on his table.
“You were supposed to pay for this month—”
“And I said I won't!” He snapped.
“Mr. Mike, please, I have nowhere else to run to.” Tears rolled down her cheeks.
The man didn't even show any signs of remorse. “I asked you to do something that would bring both of us a huge amount of money, but you screwed it up, and now you want my help? Get out of my office.” He ordered.
“My sister's life is at stake here!” She snapped, crying profusely.
“That's none of my business. Get out before I call security on you,” He warned, but she shook her head, still pleading with him. He took his telephone and dialed a number. “Yes? There's a trash in my office I want you to dispose of.” He ended the call.
It wasn't up to a minute, two hefty men rushed in and grabbed her. She pleaded, but her pleas were met with closed ears They threw her outside the hotel premises and dusted their hands.
She ran to different places, looking for where she could get money, but found none. She dialed Sasha, her best friend's line, but the lady didn't pick up.
Annabel ran to Sasha's place, but the door was locked, meaning she had gone to her parent's place, and it was far from there.
“What do I do?” She cried, and her gaze fell on the card Roland had given her. “I have no choice,” She muttered to herself, and made her way to the address he had provided.
It was a hotel. When she entered, she showed them the card, and they made a call to him before letting her in. She got to the room number provided and knocked. He urged her to come in, which she did. He had a towel wrapped around his waist.
“I'm here to listen to your offer.” She spoke out, praying it wasn't what she was thinking.
Roland smirked and closed the distance between them. “Spend a night with me and I assure you that all your financial problems will be solved.” He smirked, wearing a smug look she desperately wanted to wipe from his face.
She should have known. All her hopes were dashed immediately. Was he expecting her to sleep with him before helping her? Wasn't there something else she could do apart from that? She wasn't going to do this. This was not how she planned to lose her pride.
“I am not interested in your damn offer. I'll leave now, it was a mistake coming here in the first place.” She sighed and turned to leave, but he pulled her to himself and whispered into her ears.
“What about your sister? Are you just going to watch her die? Do you want to live the rest of your life knowing that you had a chance to save her but didn't?” He chuckled. “If she dies, just know that her blood will be on your head, Annabel Walter.”
Her blood ran cold at his statement. She pushed him away and walked out still, but stopped before the elevator.
He was right. This was her chance to save Audrey and also repay all her debts. What's her pride when her sister's life was in danger?
“I'll do this once then forget about it, so I can give Audrey a normal life,” She muttered to herself and returned to the room.
Roland, who knew she would definitely come back, smirked.
“I'll do it,” She started undressing. “Let's get this over with.”
“With pleasure,” Roland pulled her close and slammed his lips on hers immediately.

After they were done, Roland fulfilled his promises. He paid off all her debts and gave her enough money to use for Audrey's treatment. Annabel didn't wait and rushed out of the hotel room, ignoring the pain in her V area.
“If it's for Audrey, then it's worth it,” She comforted herself.
When she arrived at the hospital, she rushed into the ward and met the doctor, standing with the nurses. The looks they had on their faces scared her.
“Doctor Blake?” She called and he turned to face her.
“I came with the money. It's complete. Please, start your treatment on my sister.” She stretched the money to him, but he shook his head.
“I'm sorry.” He apologized.
“What do you mean by 'you're sorry'?” She asked.
“She's dead. Audrey…” He trailed off.
Annabel burst out laughing. “You're playing a prank on me, I get it. I won't take it to heart, but this isn't a time to play. Let's get serious, so you can commence treatment immediately.” She smiled.
“I'm sorry, Miss Walter. Audrey is dead.” He spoke louder this time.
Annabel rushed to the bed. “It's not true,” She placed her head on Audrey's chest, but got nothing. The line on the electrocardiogram machine was flat, meaning that her heart had stopped beating. “No, no! Audrey, this can't be real. Wake up, wake up, please. Big sis is here and she brought the money for your treatment. Open your eyes, Audrey!” She shook the girl, but she wasn't responding. She raised Audrey's hand, but it went limp.
Her eyes widened and she screamed. “Audrey! Please, don't do this to me. You're all I have. You're my only hope. You can't go like that, please, I love you, okay? I know you can hear me. Open your eyes,” She pleaded, but got no response. At that moment, her world came crashing down right before her eyes.
Her only sister was gone. The only gift her father left for her was gone.
She pulled Audrey to her chest, while crying loudly. “Audrey!”
4.3 MONTHS LATER…It's been three months and the pain still felt fresh to Annabel. What hurt her most was selling her pride to be able to raise the money, yet she lost her beloved sister. It still felt surreal to her, and she was yet to wrap her head around it all.To stop her from doing something stupid, Sasha made Annabel move in with her and had served as her shoulders to cry on, on numerous occasions.“It's been three months, Annabel. You can't continue like this.” Sasha facepalmed. Annabel had denied herself of food that day.“If only you know all I went through to make sure she lived, Sasha. Audrey is my only family, and now she's gone to a place of no return.” Annabel lamented.“I understand how you feel, Annie. Please, you have to live to continue your parent's lineage and starving yourself isn't going to help at all. Look at what you're doing to yourself. You easily fall sick these days as a result of this,” She hugged Annabel. “Now, stop okay? Your body is already heating u
5.FIVE YEARS LATER…As Annabel stepped out of the plane and set foot in New York City once again, a wave of emotions washed over her. Memories of her past flooded her mind as she looked around at the familiar sights and sounds of the bustling city. She took a deep breath and tried to steady her racing heartbeat. On one hand, Annabel felt a sense of trepidation. Returning to the place where she endured so much pain and heartache is a daunting prospect. She wondered if she would be able to confront the ghosts of her past and move on from the trauma that she experienced. But on the other hand, Annabel also felt a sense of pride and accomplishment. She had come a long way since she left New York five years ago. She had worked, and raised a beautiful daughter, despite all the challenges that life had thrown her way. As she looked down at her daughter, who was holding her hand tightly, Annabel felt a surge of love and gratitude. She knew that everything she had been through was worth it, j
6.Annabel felt like the ground should just open up and swallow her whole. How on Earth was she going to work in the same company with a man that caused her nothing but pain in the past? “Miss?” Roland called, waving his hand in front of her face. She snapped back to reality and quickly composed herself. He gestured to a chair in front of his desk, “Please, have a seat.” She forced a smile and sat down. Her heart was beating at an incredibly fast rate, and she could swear he might even hear it from where he sat. She looked at the plaque on his desk, boldly inscribed on it was “Roland D'Ville, President and CEO”.She sighed. So, she wasn't dreaming all this while. It was indeed true that she was sitting beside the annoying playboy Billionaire; the jerk that ruined her life.Roland watched as her eyes darted to all corners of his office. It was more like she was trying to avoid eye contact with him. The more he looked at her, the more he felt a sudden connection with her and the more
7.“You mean, he's the president of the company?” Sasha asked with wide eyes.“Yes, my dear. I was so scared that he might recognize me but turns out, he doesn't even remember me.” Annabel sighed and removed her heels.“How do you expect him to recognize you when you changed so much? You look more beautiful and mature, and your hair that was once dark is now blonde. What do you think?” Sasha asked and Annabel sighed.“It's a good thing that he doesn't recognize me.” She smiled.Sasha frowned. “Are you being serious right now? You should be bothered that he doesn't recognize you. If he doesn't, who would claim ownership for Olivia?” Sasha asked.“Sasha, Olivia is better off with me, trust me. I don't want a situation where my only daughter will get rejected.” Annabel expressed her fear. After she left the country and gave birth to her child, all she wanted was to give the baby the life that she deserved. She wanted to raise her child on her own without giving a damn about what others w
8.“Sir!” She gasped. She turned to look at the elevator but the door had closed. That moment, she knew she was in for it. How was she going to stay in the same elevator with this guy?“Is something wrong?” Roland asked as he noticed her uneasiness. She shook her head without saying a word. Roland found her behavior strange but didn't say anything. Annabel didn't know what to do. Being with him felt like a thousand needles were being pierced into her skin. She would give anything to disappear from there that instant.“Miss Walter?” Roland called.“Yes, sir,” She answered, trying her very best to keep her voice steady. She didn't want him to notice her fear.“Why do you look scared? You look like you weren't expecting to see me here.” He muttered and she sighed.“You're right. I wasn't expecting to see you here…” She trailed off, not knowing what else to say.'What do I do? What do I do?' She questioned herself mentally.Roland couldn't comprehend why she was acting so weird around him
9.Layla rushed after Roland immediately. He was about to close the door but she held it and walked in.“Wait!” She exclaimed when he wanted to drag her out.“What is your problem? What do you want?” He asked in annoyance. He couldn't comprehend why his mother wouldn't let him be. Why was she bent on frustrating his life with things like this? He had told her countless times to quit setting up dates with ladies for him but she wouldn't listen. He wanted no one except that lady!Layla bit her lip and placed her hand on his chest. “Why are you acting like this? We just met. We should at least get to know each other.” She drew invisible circles on his chest.Roland held her hand and yanked it away from his chest. If it was the way he was before, he would have smacked his lips on hers and fucked her senseless, but he wasn't that kind of person anymore. He had changed and the person responsible for that change was who he wanted.“Don't you dare lay your skinny hands on me again. Get out!”
10. “I'm sorry, sir.” She bowed apologetically. Roland sighed and folded his hands. As much as he hated his employees coming late to work, he didn't want to yell at her, but he wasn't going to let her go scot free either. “What should I do with you?” He sighed and licked his bottom lip. Annabel found it cute and lowered her head immediately. She didn't want to get any weird thoughts. This was the man that caused her a whole lot, she wasn't going to admire anything about him. She should be resenting him. Roland thought for a while and an idea popped up in his head. Since he found her familiar, it would be good to spend some time with her and get to know her better. “Well, I'm not going to fire you,” He said. “Do you fire your employees when they come late?” She asked, her eyes not leaving the floor. Roland sighed and tucked his hands into his pockets. “Yes, but for you I can make an exception.” He replied. She looked up and he winked. She scoffed. Was he trying to flirt with he
11.“What the…” Annabel snapped the minute she got to her desk and discovered that what she just finished printing had been shredded to pieces. “Who could have done this?” She asked no one in particular as she took the shredded pieces from the ground.Brian rushed to meet her. “Are you okay?” He asked but she couldn't say anything. She quickly sat down and switched on her laptop. She was to submit them to Mr. Carl before work hours were over and she only had 2 hours left. She went to where she had saved a copy of them but they were no where to be found.“No,” She said as she continued to look for them. She searched everywhere and even went to search places she knew on a normal day, she would not save anything there, but there was nothing.“Shit!” She exclaimed when she realized she'd have to start over. She wrote those reports from her head. How would she remember everything she had written?“Annabel?” Brian called. She couldn't answer him. No one needed to tell her that someone was b
