2.
Annabel got to the hotel in no time and rushed into the massive building. While the elevator took her to her boss's office, she arranged her clothes that had been ruffled as a result of how she rushed to get there and exhaled.
The elevator dinged open and she rushed out immediately.
“Good evening, sir.” She greeted with a bow the moment she walked into his office.
Mr. Mike studied her from head to toes. The hotel uniform she was putting on fitted her perfectly, and the skirt did justice to bringing her curves out a bit.
“Perfect for the job,” He muttered to himself.
Annabel wondered what he had muttered, but before she could think about it, he drew her attention.
“Follow me,” He stood up and started walking out of the office. Annabel hurried after him as he led her to the kitchen. There was a tray of food resting on the counter there. She needed no one to tell her what to do next, and quickly took it.
“What room should I deliver the food, sir?” She asked with a smile.
“Room 345, it's on the third floor. Take the elevator to make it faster,” He said. She nodded and turned to leave. “Annabel,” He called.
“Yes, sir.” she turned to look at him.
“Make sure you do tonight's job well. Your employment depends on it.” He warned and walked away.
Annabel arched her brows, trying to figure out what he meant by her employment depended on it. She was among the best staff, who were diligent and got all the praises. Being responsible for delivering food to customers wasn't easy for them because they get humiliated, and occasionally get yelled at and insulted by the customers.
Even at that, she did her work from her heart because she needed the money. She wasn't going to flaunt tonight's order.
She took the elevator to the third floor and located the room in no time. When she got to the door, she inhaled and exhaled before placing a knock on it.
There was silence for a while before the door opened, revealing a gorgeous young man. Annabel tried not to drool, but it wasn't working for her. As she looked across the room, her eyes locked onto him. He was tall, with broad shoulders and a lean, athletic build. His dark hair was styled in a messy, yet effortlessly stylish way, and his piercing blue eyes seemed to twinkle with mischief.
His chiseled jawline and full lips gave him an air of confidence and strength. She couldn't help but notice the way his muscles rippled under his fitted shirt as he moved, and the way he exuded a quiet, magnetic charm that seemed to draw others towards him. He was undeniably good-looking, and Annabel couldn't help but feel a flutter of attraction deep within her.
She shook off her thoughts and cleared her throat. “Here is your food, sir.”
“Are you going to stand there being pretty or bring it inside?” He asked.
Annabel said nothing. She hurried to the room, dropped the food on the table and turned to leave.
“Hey, not so fast, pretty eyes,” He drawled and walked to where she stood. Mr. Mike had told him that the girl he was sending was relatable, and he was right. This lady had the curves and everything he wanted in a woman. He couldn't wait to make her scream and moan out his name.
Annabel couldn't comprehend what he was doing. Her eyes widened when he trailed a line on her cheek. “What are you doing?” She asked, moving away from him.
“What does it look like I'm doing?” He asked, rolling his eyes at her.
“I've done what I was sent to do. Enjoy your meal,” She said and turned to leave, but he drew her back and pinned her to the wall.
She gasped.
“What—” She couldn't complete her statement as he shut her up with a kiss. Annabel's eyes widened as anger built up within her. How dare he kiss her without her permission? She wasn't going to accept that.
She bit his lip and he let go of her immediately. His once calm eyes darkened.
“Why are you acting like a novice? Didn't your boss tell you that you're mine tonight?” He frowned.
That was when Annabel recalled the meaning of what Mr. Mike told her earlier about doing her work well. Her eyes widened and she took a step back.
“He set me up,” She muttered and covered her mouth.
“I don't have all night, Missy. Let's get this over with.” He pulled her, but she yanked her hands away and slapped him on his face, hard! His eyes widened as his hands went to his cheeks.
“Stay away from me, you monster! How could both of you plot against me?” She thundered and dashed out of the room, slamming the door to demonstrate her anger.
“You'll regret slapping Roland D'Ville, Missy. I swear you'll regret it.” He picked up his phone.

When Annabel got to the reception, she saw Mr. Mike there.
“I didn't know you would stoop this low, Mr. Mike. I expected nothing like this from you!” She snapped.
Mr. Mike scoffed. “I thought you were in dire need of money, but it seems you're comfortable with the condition you're in.”
“I need money, but I won't do such to get it.” She retorted.
“That's not my problem, Annabel. I gave you an order, and you screwed it up. Pack your things; that's if you even have one. You're fired!” He blurted out.
Annabel felt like a thunderclap just sounded in her head. “Sir, please. You can't do this. I really need this job, please!” She went on her knees, but his mind was already made up.
“My mind is made up, Annabel. Except you're ready to go and do whatever Mr. D'Ville tells you to, then get out of here.” He snapped.
“I can't,” She insisted.
“Get lost!” He turned to leave.
“What about this month's payment? The month is ending.” She sniffed.
“Your payment for this month has been canceled.” He didn't wait for her to say anything else and walked away.
Annabel burst into tears. How was she going to survive? Where would she find another paying job like this one? Her sister's health issues were there, and the debts too. How would she be able to raise the money?
She looked up and saw Roland smiling at her. Cursing at him under her breath, she stood up and left the hotel.
As she walked home, she continued to cry, while thinking of how to find other means of survival.
She wiped her tears before entering the house so that when she went to check on Audrey, the little girl wouldn't know she cried.
She dropped her bag and headed for Audrey's room. When she got there, the scene she met shocked her. The girl's body was sprawled on the floor, her hair scattered everywhere, and she was foaming from the mouth.
Annabel gasped. “Audrey!”
3.“Doctor Blake, you can't do this. Just work on her, I'm going to pay the money.” She pleaded, but he shook his head. She had rushed Audrey to the hospital and the doctor had told her that Audrey's heart condition had deteriorated, and the little girl would die if they didn't commence treatment immediately. The money Annabel had in her account wasn't even up to half of what the doctor had said, and she tried to reason with him, but he wasn't listening.“Look, Miss Walter, this isn't a charity organization. I've told you to bring half of the payment as a deposit, so we can commence treatment immediately, but it seems you aren't ready. We can't work on her for free,” The doctor said and turned to leave, but Annabel held his coat.“Doctor Blake, please, I beg of you. She's my only sister, my world, my everything; she's the only one I have. Please, don't let her die. Take the one with me. I'll look for more to pay, please.” She pleaded.“I'll be in my office, Miss Walter. When you're re
4.3 MONTHS LATER…It's been three months and the pain still felt fresh to Annabel. What hurt her most was selling her pride to be able to raise the money, yet she lost her beloved sister. It still felt surreal to her, and she was yet to wrap her head around it all.To stop her from doing something stupid, Sasha made Annabel move in with her and had served as her shoulders to cry on, on numerous occasions.“It's been three months, Annabel. You can't continue like this.” Sasha facepalmed. Annabel had denied herself of food that day.“If only you know all I went through to make sure she lived, Sasha. Audrey is my only family, and now she's gone to a place of no return.” Annabel lamented.“I understand how you feel, Annie. Please, you have to live to continue your parent's lineage and starving yourself isn't going to help at all. Look at what you're doing to yourself. You easily fall sick these days as a result of this,” She hugged Annabel. “Now, stop okay? Your body is already heating u
5.FIVE YEARS LATER…As Annabel stepped out of the plane and set foot in New York City once again, a wave of emotions washed over her. Memories of her past flooded her mind as she looked around at the familiar sights and sounds of the bustling city. She took a deep breath and tried to steady her racing heartbeat. On one hand, Annabel felt a sense of trepidation. Returning to the place where she endured so much pain and heartache is a daunting prospect. She wondered if she would be able to confront the ghosts of her past and move on from the trauma that she experienced. But on the other hand, Annabel also felt a sense of pride and accomplishment. She had come a long way since she left New York five years ago. She had worked, and raised a beautiful daughter, despite all the challenges that life had thrown her way. As she looked down at her daughter, who was holding her hand tightly, Annabel felt a surge of love and gratitude. She knew that everything she had been through was worth it, j
6.Annabel felt like the ground should just open up and swallow her whole. How on Earth was she going to work in the same company with a man that caused her nothing but pain in the past? “Miss?” Roland called, waving his hand in front of her face. She snapped back to reality and quickly composed herself. He gestured to a chair in front of his desk, “Please, have a seat.” She forced a smile and sat down. Her heart was beating at an incredibly fast rate, and she could swear he might even hear it from where he sat. She looked at the plaque on his desk, boldly inscribed on it was “Roland D'Ville, President and CEO”.She sighed. So, she wasn't dreaming all this while. It was indeed true that she was sitting beside the annoying playboy Billionaire; the jerk that ruined her life.Roland watched as her eyes darted to all corners of his office. It was more like she was trying to avoid eye contact with him. The more he looked at her, the more he felt a sudden connection with her and the more
7.“You mean, he's the president of the company?” Sasha asked with wide eyes.“Yes, my dear. I was so scared that he might recognize me but turns out, he doesn't even remember me.” Annabel sighed and removed her heels.“How do you expect him to recognize you when you changed so much? You look more beautiful and mature, and your hair that was once dark is now blonde. What do you think?” Sasha asked and Annabel sighed.“It's a good thing that he doesn't recognize me.” She smiled.Sasha frowned. “Are you being serious right now? You should be bothered that he doesn't recognize you. If he doesn't, who would claim ownership for Olivia?” Sasha asked.“Sasha, Olivia is better off with me, trust me. I don't want a situation where my only daughter will get rejected.” Annabel expressed her fear. After she left the country and gave birth to her child, all she wanted was to give the baby the life that she deserved. She wanted to raise her child on her own without giving a damn about what others w
8.“Sir!” She gasped. She turned to look at the elevator but the door had closed. That moment, she knew she was in for it. How was she going to stay in the same elevator with this guy?“Is something wrong?” Roland asked as he noticed her uneasiness. She shook her head without saying a word. Roland found her behavior strange but didn't say anything. Annabel didn't know what to do. Being with him felt like a thousand needles were being pierced into her skin. She would give anything to disappear from there that instant.“Miss Walter?” Roland called.“Yes, sir,” She answered, trying her very best to keep her voice steady. She didn't want him to notice her fear.“Why do you look scared? You look like you weren't expecting to see me here.” He muttered and she sighed.“You're right. I wasn't expecting to see you here…” She trailed off, not knowing what else to say.'What do I do? What do I do?' She questioned herself mentally.Roland couldn't comprehend why she was acting so weird around him
9.Layla rushed after Roland immediately. He was about to close the door but she held it and walked in.“Wait!” She exclaimed when he wanted to drag her out.“What is your problem? What do you want?” He asked in annoyance. He couldn't comprehend why his mother wouldn't let him be. Why was she bent on frustrating his life with things like this? He had told her countless times to quit setting up dates with ladies for him but she wouldn't listen. He wanted no one except that lady!Layla bit her lip and placed her hand on his chest. “Why are you acting like this? We just met. We should at least get to know each other.” She drew invisible circles on his chest.Roland held her hand and yanked it away from his chest. If it was the way he was before, he would have smacked his lips on hers and fucked her senseless, but he wasn't that kind of person anymore. He had changed and the person responsible for that change was who he wanted.“Don't you dare lay your skinny hands on me again. Get out!”
10. “I'm sorry, sir.” She bowed apologetically. Roland sighed and folded his hands. As much as he hated his employees coming late to work, he didn't want to yell at her, but he wasn't going to let her go scot free either. “What should I do with you?” He sighed and licked his bottom lip. Annabel found it cute and lowered her head immediately. She didn't want to get any weird thoughts. This was the man that caused her a whole lot, she wasn't going to admire anything about him. She should be resenting him. Roland thought for a while and an idea popped up in his head. Since he found her familiar, it would be good to spend some time with her and get to know her better. “Well, I'm not going to fire you,” He said. “Do you fire your employees when they come late?” She asked, her eyes not leaving the floor. Roland sighed and tucked his hands into his pockets. “Yes, but for you I can make an exception.” He replied. She looked up and he winked. She scoffed. Was he trying to flirt with he
