Alpha Chase's Pov

The dimly lit room was suffused with a sense of anticipation as I sat in my leather armchair, fingers nervously tapping against the polished mahogany desk.

The air was thick with the smell of aged books and the soft hum of the city outside. The clock on the wall ticked away, each second echoing in my mind like a drumbeat, urging me to take action.

I reached for my phone, grasping it tightly in my hand. It was time to make the call.

I dialed the familiar number, my heart pounding against my chest. The phone rang twice before a voice crackled through the receiver, "Hello?"

"Simon," I said, my voice filled with a mix of anxiety and hope. "It's me. How are things going?"

Silence stretched between us for a moment, and I could almost hear Simon's mind working, piecing together the puzzle of our conversation.
