Liv’s POV

I closed the door behind me, my fingers gripping the handle of the iPad that was resting on the desk in Kaelon’s office. It felt oddly light in my hand, as if I were carrying a piece of someone else’s life.

I could feel the weight of the day’s events bearing down on me, but I pushed it away as I walked down the long hallway. I wasn’t sure what I was feeling anymore—was it relief? Guilt? Confusion? Maybe all of them, swirling together in a strange concoction.

When I reached the elevator, I glanced at the time on my phone. I should’ve been out of here hours ago.

But somehow, I had allowed myself to get caught up in the moment, in the pull of Kaelon’s presence, in the electricity between us.

Shaking my head, I hit the button for the elevator. The soft ding sounded as the doors opened, and I stepped inside. The ride down felt endless, my mind replaying every little thing that had happened in Kaelon’s office.

The scent of him still lingered on my skin, and I couldn’

Liv’s POVThe night was winding down at the bar, the clink of glasses and soft hum of conversation filling the air. The girls and I had settled into our usual rhythm, chatting about anything and everything. Rose was telling us some wild story about a mishap at the conference she went to, while Lara kept interrupting with her usual sarcastic one-liners. The laughter flowed as easily as the drinks, and for a moment, I could forget about the tension of the day—the confusion, the emotions I was trying so hard to make sense of.I was starting to feel at ease when Lara suddenly stopped mid-conversation, her eyes narrowing in the direction of the door. I followed her gaze instinctively, trying to figure out what had caught her attention.A man had walked into the bar. He wasn’t someone I recognized at first, but there was something undeniably magnetic about him. Tall, well-built, with dark hair that was just a little too messy to be intentional but somehow looked perfect. His sharp jawlin

Kaelon’s POVThe small Italian bistro was tucked away from the bustling streets of the city. The kind of place where you could hear your thoughts without being drowned out by the chaos of the world. Aaron and I sat at a corner booth, the warm light from the hanging chandelier casting a soft glow over the table. The air was filled with the scent of freshly baked bread and simmering sauce, a comforting reminder that sometimes, simplicity was enough.I glanced across the table at my son, watching as he poked at his plate, pushing the delicate, tender pieces of chicken around. I had chosen a dish I knew he would like—pollo al marsala, chicken simmered in a rich Marsala wine sauce, paired with a side of creamy mashed potatoes and sautéed vegetables. It was hearty and satisfying, just the kind of meal anyone would enjoy after a long day. My own plate sat untouched for the moment, but the gnocchi with truffle cream sauce called to me. I had been hungry since earlier, when I had wrapped u

Kaelon’s POVI watched Aaron, still sitting across from me, staring at his plate with an expression that could only be described as disbelief. He let out a bitter laugh, and I felt my gut twist at the sound. It wasn’t the laugh of someone finding humor in the absurd; it was the laugh of someone teetering on the edge of frustration and resignation, about to snap.“You’ve got to be kidding me,” he said, shaking his head, as though what I had said was beyond the realm of possibility. His voice was low, but sharp, a tone that I knew far too well—the one he used when he was getting ready to let his emotions fly, whether I liked it or not.“What’s so funny?” I asked, leaning back, watching him closely. I had a feeling I knew where this was going.“Is it really that easy for you, Dad?” His words came out like daggers. He locked eyes with me then, as if daring me to answer. “If it’s that simple, why the hell didn’t you fall in love after Mom? Why the hell did you keep yourself closed off fro

VIV’S POVHey this is Aaron. I’m unavailable at the moment. Kindly leave a message after the dial.“What the actual fuck?!” I screamed at no one in particular as the phone slipped from my trembling fingers, landing with a soft thud on the plush carpet beside me. Why do I keep getting his damn voicemails?!I’d dialed his number five times already. Maybe more. Who was counting when your heart was beating out of your chest?I scowled, glaring at the glowing screen as though it were some sort of cruel joke. How dare he not pick up? Didn’t he understand what was happening to me? I pressed my hand against my belly, trying to will myself to calm down, but my pulse raced in frustration, the sound of my rapid heartbeat filling my ears.I really thought that he had liked me after all this time. I mean we had sex before their wedding night!“Damn him.” I muttered under my breath. Despite all my anger, I could not still shake off the feeling that I was alone through it all. I was stuck up alon

Liv’s POVA pounding headache split my skull as I stirred, a dull ache radiating from behind my eyes.I groaned, forcing myself upright, blinking against the harsh morning light streaming through the curtains. My limbs felt sluggish, my mouth dry and tasting of regret. The night before was a blur with flashes of music, laughter, maybe a streetlight spinning past. And then… nothing.I pressed my fingers to my temples, trying to massage some clarity into my thoughts. What the hell happened? My phone lay cracked on the nightstand, the screen lighting up with a flood of missed calls from Lara and Vio.My stomach twisted with unease. Shoving aside the tangled sheets, I forced myself out of bed, wincing as my legs protested.“I need coffee.” I muttered under my breath. And answers.By the time I made it to the kitchen, Lara and Vio were already perched on the counter, steaming mugs in hand, looking way too entertained for my liking. The smell of coffee made my stomach lurch before settling

Aaron’s POVI stood outside Liv’s parents apartment, the early morning chill nipping at my skin, but it didn’t bother me. Nothing did, not when I had one purpose in mind. I had flowers in my hand—fresh ones, the kind you pick up early, right after the sun starts creeping over the horizon. I’d had to leave the house at five a.m., wearing my best suit, hoping to catch her before she left. Every time I called or texted, I got nothing. So, I thought I’d do the old-fashioned thing. Show up.I checked my watch for what felt like the hundredth time. It was nearing eight now, and I’d been standing out here for nearly an hour. My patience was wearing thin. I was irritated with myself. I should’ve been able to figure out where she’d gone. We had plans last night, but after she left… everything went off course. Now, I was standing here like some lovesick idiot, praying to see her.I ran my fingers through my hair, frustrated.Viv kept calling and texting like the lunatic she was fast becomi

Vivi’s POVI couldn’t help myself. I stood there, laughing under my breath, almost mocking at how ridiculous it was that Aaron was standing on my doorstep, holding a bouquet of flowers. He had ignored my calls for days, shut his phone off like some moody teenager. And yet here he was, on the other side of the door, his face stiff with something between regret and impatience, holding out those damn flowers like he was some romantic hero in a cheesy movie.“Really?” I muttered under my breath, staring at him in disbelief. “Now you come around?”I leaned casually against the doorframe of his car, arms crossed, and gave him my best ‘you didn’t see this coming’ look.“Aaron,” I started, letting the word slide off my tongue, “So after you finally decided to show up, you're just going to be spewing too much nonsense, is that it?”He was tense—too tense. There was something about his energy, his aura, that told me something was off. Not that it mattered. I wasn’t the one playing for anyt

Kaelon’s POVI sat in the grand dining room, a quiet morning stretching in front of me. The soft hum of the city outside was muffled by the heavy curtains that lined the windows. It was rare that I could sit still, let alone have a peaceful breakfast, but this morning was different. There was no rush and for once, I could actually enjoy my coffee. The rich taste of it filled my senses, and I let the steam from the cup warm my face. The silence was broken only by the soft clinking of silverware and the occasional shuffle of the kitchen staff moving behind the scenes. I was just beginning to enjoy the calm when the sound of hurried footsteps echoed down the hallway, followed by the creak of the dining room door swinging open.I looked up from my coffee, and there he was. Aaron. The guy was a mess. His hair was rumpled, his shirt slightly crooked, and in his hand, he was holding a bouquet of flowers like some kind of desperate teenager. Kaelon's POVThe air in the boardroom was thick with the scent of expensive cologne and freshly brewed coffee. A long mahogany table stretched before me, filled with board members in their tailored suits, their eyes fixed on me as I wrapped up my presentation. A strange energy buzzed beneath the surface. Then, the door swung open.Louisa, my secretary, never interrupted meetings. Never. My fingers clenched around the steering wheel as I forced my foot off the gas, the car slowing to an uneasy stop on the side of the deserted road. My pulse hammered in my ears, drowning out the hum of the engine as I reached for my phone, already dreading what I’d see.The screen glowed in the dim interior of the car, displaying countless notifications—texts, calls, news alerts. VIV’S POVThe room was dimly lit, the soft glow of the bedside lamp casting long shadows across the luxurious furnishings. I leaned back against the plush velvet headboard, my fingers tapping impatiently on the sleek surface of my laptop. My heart pounded, not with nerves, but with anticipation.I had been waiting for this moment.A scandal this big needed to be executed with precision, and I had made sure to cover my tracks. No one would trace it back to me. I reached for my phone, my fingers brushing over the smooth glass before I brought it to my ear."Is it done?" I asked, keeping my voice low."Almost," the distorted voice on the other end replied. The vocoder app I was using made me sound unrecognizable. "The post will be live in ten minutes. I made sure to include all the pictures and just enough juicy details to send the internet into a frenzy."A slow smile curled my lips. "Good. And you made sure it was anonymous?""Of course. KAELON’S POVThe office was quiet except for the faint hum of the air conditioner and the rhythmic tapping of my fingers against the polished wood of my desk. The city skyline stretched out beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows, but my focus wasn’t on the view. It hadn’t been for days.“No, Kaelon. I can’t do this. I can’t be part of a lie. If you can’t trust me enough to be honest with me, then I don’t know what we’re doing here.” Her voice kept replaying in my head for every single time I wanted to work or turned to look at the sofa. She was almost everywhere and that was eating me up.I was trying to work. Trying to lose myself in the endless reports and figures in front of me. But no matter how many contracts I approved or how many meetings I scheduled, one thought remained—Liv.I had done this to myself. I had been the one to suggest going public, to push the conversation that sent her retreating like a deer startled in the woods. I had been reckless, and now she was gone. And it

LIV’S POVSince the day I stormed out of Kaelon’s office, I have done my best to stay away from him as much as I could. He kept calling but, “Who gives a shit?” I murmured as I rolled my eyes. The silence between Kaelon and me stretched for days, thick and suffocating like a storm cloud that refused to break. How did he transition from wanting to go public about our relationship to not wanting to go public anymore? As if it had all been a mistake. As if I had been a mistake. I sat on the edge of my bed, the soft glow of my bedside lamp casting long shadows across the room. My phone lay next to me, untouched, its screen dark. I had checked it more times than I wanted to admit, hoping and praying that he would reach out again. But he didn’t. Maybe he was caught up with work or whatever.I could not help but wonder why he was now pushing me away. I wrapped my arms around myself, trying to hold in the anger that simmered beneath my skin. VIV’S POVWhatever the fuck my father said that made me come here? It needs to be recorded and kept on a constant replay. The crisp morning air carried a whisper of autumn as I stepped out of the towering office building, my heels clicking against the pavement. The interview had gone smoothly—expected, considering my father had arranged this internship months ago. It was merely a formality, another move in his grand chess game. But this particular firm had ties to Blackwood Corporation, which meant occasional visits to the empire that had once been my world.I didn’t linger on that thought. My phone buzzed just as I reached my car. The name flashing across the screen made my heart lurch. Az. The investigator.I exhaled sharply and tapped the message open: I have something. It’s big. This will destroy her, but Blackwood Corp goes down with her. Do you still want it?My fingers tightened around the phone as a thousand possibilities rushed through my mind. KAELON’S POVAfter a while of staying together, I knew that I had to tell her something important. We had to come clean to the public before whoever was snooping around did. It would be devastating , but it will be more managed that way.“Kaelon,” Liv said, her voice tight, her gaze unwavering. She’d been quiet for a while now, but I knew she was stewing on something. She always did when she was worried, when something didn’t sit right with her. “What’s going on? What’s really happening?”I ran my hand through my hair, trying to think of a way to calm her down. Trying to find the right words to explain without escalating the situation further. “I think we’ve been compromised, Liv,” I said finally, my voice low. “Someone’s been watching us—watching you.”Her eyes narrowed, but she didn’t speak right away. She was waiting, letting me continue. I had to get it all out before she started asking questions I didn’t know how to answer.“I don’t know who, but I have a feeling it’s someone cl

LIV’S POVAs I stepped through the door, I could feel the weight of the moment settle in. There was something about this place—something about Kaelon—that made everything else fade into the background. The faint hum of the office, the quiet bustle of people behind the walls, none of it mattered when I was with him.I offered Evelyn a polite nod as I passed her, noting the curious glance she gave me. She was always so composed, but I could feel the subtle tension in the air between us. Evelyn had a way of knowing everything, and she didn’t miss much. I wondered what she thought of me, but it wasn’t something I wanted to dwell on today. As I stepped further into the room, I caught sight of him at his desk, his gaze already on me. His lips parted in a smile—one that made my heart race in an instant. He didn’t even need to say a word. Kaelon’s POVThe thick, suffocating tension in my office made it hard to breathe. The lights above hummed low, the kind of sound that seemed to gnaw at my nerves, and I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off—something I hadn't quite pinned down yet. I sat at my desk, staring at the screen in front of me, the numbers from the latest report blurring together. "Mr. Blackwood," Evelyn's voice cut through the quiet hum of the office. She had been standing in the doorway for a few moments, observing me, and now she stepped forward, her tone sharp, her expression calm but knowing. "We need to talk."I looked up from the screen, my jaw tightening. Evelyn had always been cool, collected—almost eerily so—and that was why she was so good at her job. But today, her usual composed demeanor didn't reassure me. There was an underlying tension in her movements, a sense that she was as unsettled as I was."What is it?" I asked, my voice rough with frustration. "This situation with my offi
