The worst had happened. The absolute worst in fact.

I sensed it when Eggust called me that morning and asked me to meet him at the hospital.

I panicked thinking something bad happened to Marlani.

"Oh no, she's just getting discharged." He'd told me but I couldn't shake off the bad feeling that something was definitely wrong.

If she was just getting discharged, I thought, why would they want me there?

It was bound to be a nasty scene and I did not want to be present but there was nothing I could do.

I had to go.

When we got there, I took one look at Eggust's face and I fell for him all over again.

Despite the argument we'd had with his mum the last time and how he'd threatened to cut off ties with her, he had come running to take her home after her discharge.
