"Buy them if you want."
The baritone voice made Ruby's body startle, and she turned her head to the left. Ruby's eyes opened wide when she saw Victor's face! Someone she called a brother, but they didn't share the same blood.
"Victor! What are you doing here?" said Ruby, who initially hesitated to call Victor by name. Since they were no longer close, Ruby chose to part ways with her adoptive parents.
"You want that? I can get it for you," said Victor, who did not respond to Ruby's question.
"No! No... Thank you, Victor," Ruby replied, refusing Victor's offer of a gift.
"I would like a set of this jewellery," Victor said to the waiter standing behind the display case.
"Yes, sir."
Ruby's eyes widened, and she met Victor's gaze with one raised eyebrow. Who wouldn't be suspicious of the man in front of her? They hadn't seen each other in a dozen years. The last time Ruby separated from her adoptive parents, Victor seemed to hate her, even though she and Victor were six years apart in age.
"What? Why are you showing me that horrible look?" Victor replied with a small touch on Ruby's chin.
"What's the point of all this?" asked Ruby, still controlling herself to stay calm since they were in a shopping centre.
Victor raised his hand to stop the conversation. He pulled out his debit card, paying the bill for the jewellery set that had been beautifully wrapped in a dark blue paper bag.
"Take it." Victor pushed the paper bag toward Ruby.
"No." Ruby refused, pushing the paper bag away from Victor.
"Alright," Victor said casually, throwing the set of expensive jewellery into the trash can in front of him.
Ruby was again surprised by Victor's actions. How arrogant and haughty Victor Anthony was! Ruby looked like a fool taking jewellery from a trash can. She didn't care about the strange looks as long as she didn't feel like she was harming anyone.
"Look at it after it becomes trash. You're willing to pick it up again," Victor hissed, drawing a slight smile to his lips. He was holding back from laughing out loud.
"A piece of trash that became my fortune," Ruby retorted, unconcerned with Victor's sarcasm.
"Because you're just like them."Ruby stopped her footsteps when she heard Victor's words. She felt slapped by Victor's hurtful words; this was not the first time she had been labelled as trash by Victor just because she came from an orphanage.
Victor noticed Ruby's footsteps stop. Victor had no intention of turning around, nor did he feel that what he had just said was wrong. Victor was still Victor, who hated Ruby's presence in his family and life. To him, Rubyjane Xavellyn was a parasite!
"Are you hurt by what I said? How long can you accept a fact that I said?" Victor continued once again, turning on the heel of his boot. She stared at Ruby, who looked down with her hands tightly gripping the paper bag.
"Rubyjane—"
Ruby raised her head and focused her gaze on Victor. A man who stood at 185 with pale white skin and a dark brown mane that was neatly combed with a pomade, complete with jet-black eyes. Ruby was only as tall as Victor's chest, so she had to look up to see him.
"Are you angry about what I said?" Victor asked Ruby.
"No, I'm not. I'm proud. You reminded me of where I'm from, Victor. Thank you again; I almost forgot," Ruby replied with sarcasm.
Victor was surprised at the sarcastic reply Ruby gave him. He thought his words would make Ruby's face turn red and cry, but Victor was wrong. The Ruby standing in front of him was different from the Ruby he met eleven years ago.
"Thank you once again. For such an expensive piece of trash, I'll treat you later to an expensive cup of coffee," Ruby said once more before she chose to walk past Victor.
"Damn! Why do I have to see him again?" Ruby cursed internally. She took the elevator down to the first floor.

Ruby returned to her modest apartment. She placed the jewellery set on the dressing table, needing more time to look at it. Ruby again had to prepare herself to change her clothes; she worked at one of the material stores in Boston.Wearing jeans and a brown T-shirt. Ruby put her hair in a ponytail and lightly applied cherry-scented lipstick. After making sure she looked presentable, Ruby took her cell phone and wallet into her briefcase. At 1 p.m., Ruby went to work. She took a shift where she worked from lunchtime until 10 p.m.
"Thank God this time I don't have to wait," said Ruby, smiling happily and looking at the bus that was the transportation route to her workplace.
The journey to her workplace only takes 15 minutes if she uses the bus. And 30 minutes if Ruby travelled by foot. This time, Ruby wanted to avoid skimp because she was too tired to exercise during the day.
The bus came to a stop, and Ruby put down her bus pass and got off in a hurry. Her breathing was ragged as she ran past six shops. Finally, Ruby stopped in front of the material store where she worked.
"Good afternoon," Ruby said to the employees, who looked at her sarcastically.
As usual, they didn't like Ruby. I don't know for what reason, but strangely, every time Ruby manned the store, The material store became crowded, and there were even buyers who openly wanted to be served by Ruby. That could also be the reason why the other employees hated Ruby.
Ting!
Ruby had just finished taking attendance. The customers had arrived; those who usually shop with Ruby welcomed Mrs. Dasha and her husband, Dexter.
"Good afternoon, Mrs. Dasha. What materials are you looking for today?" asked Ruby as she approached Mrs. Dasha with a basket to put the groceries in.
"Ruby. My husband and I just made a new room for us to relax in. What colour do you think would be suitable for our new room?" asked Dasha, the young woman she trusted to help her.
"Wow! How about a classic touch? Like nude or other pastel colours?" Ruby immediately picked up a sample paint book that showed the new colours.
"Isn't it too boring, Ruby?"
"Of course not, Mrs. Dasha. You can add pink furniture if you want a feminine feel or wood if you want a vintage touch. Or go for a classic luxury feel with gold or silver furniture. It all depends on your choice, Mrs. Dasha," Ruby explained quickly and carefully. Dasha nodded, feeling very satisfied that she had been helped to choose her house paint.
"Thank you, Mrs. Dasha. Come back if you need anything else," Ruby said, holding out two large bags of paint and other knick-knacks.
"Thank you, Ruby. Take this as a small gift to buy candy." Dasha placed a $100 bill in Ruby's hand.
"Mrs. Dasha, this is too much!" Ruby tried to refuse, but Mrs. Dasha and her husband were already waving their hands. It hadn't been a minute since Ruby's happy smile appeared. In the blink of an eye, her smile faded, and Victor suddenly walked through the glass door and stood in front of Ruby.
"Ruby___"
Everyone there was staring at Ruby. Ruby felt uncomfortable and pulled Victor's hand away from the cashier. Ruby didn't understand what it was about Victor that kept showing up in her life.
Ruby jerked Victor's hand away when they were behind the materials building. The safest place to talk, as only a few people could pass by in the restricted area.
"What's wrong with you, Victor?" Why do you keep showing up in my life today?" Ruby said in an angry tone that she didn't like Victor's presence in her life, which she considered calm and peaceful.
"Is this life only yours? I also live in this life," Victor retorted, looking deeply into Ruby's eyes.
"Stop saying nonsense! What do you want?" Ruby said, getting straight to the point about Victor's strange behaviour, which must have a purpose behind it."To ask you to return the favour for all that my parents gave me," Victor replied casually, haughtily crossing his arms.
"What do you mean?" said Ruby in confusion as Victor asked for a favour that Ruby didn't understand.
"All kindnesses. Whether it's money or anything you've received from my parents, don't you remember to return the favour?" Victor repeated to clarify his words.
"Victor," added Ruby, who was at a loss for words. She couldn't help but wonder what Victor was up to this time.
"I don't need your meagre money. I'm a Billionaire, and I have everything. But there is one thing I need from you," Victor continued with his eagle gaze on Ruby's body.
"My body?" asked Ruby, who immediately understood Victor's meaning.
"No."
"So? What do you want?" Ruby retorted.
"I want you to carry my child," Victor explained with conviction."You're crazy!" replied Ruby, slapping Victor hard across the face.
Ruby pushed Victor's body away from her. But instead, Victor held Ruby's hand, pushing her body against the wall. Victor's eyes stared intently at Ruby. Victor hates rejection! Whatever he wanted, he had to get.
"I'll see you then," Victor threatened Ruby.
"Go ahead!" Ruby replied with a smirk. A small threat would not easily fool Ruby.
****
"Does he think he can threaten me? Oh! Of course, he can't," Ruby said, still annoyed by Victor's words. Ruby was still struggling with material items. She had missed her dinner. Ruby was used to this. She was storing the big, heavy boxes one by one in the warehouse. Was anyone helping her? No, Ruby was working alone. "Ruby. Finish this before you go home." Ruby returned with two stacks of large boxes containing various types of paintbrushes. Her body was about to break after standing and sitting for hours in the warehouse, and she had to take another deep breath when she saw the two new stacks of boxes she had to finish tonight. "Cheer up, Ruby! This isn't the job you wanted," Ruby tried to encourage herself. The smile returned to her face. Reenergized, Ruby began to finish the remaining two boxes before she headed back to her apartment. After almost an hour wasted, Ruby was able to stretch her muscles, staring at the clock on the wall. It was almost 11 p.m., and Ruby quickly s
"Why are you so confident that I can carry your baby?" Ruby muttered without looking at the other person. "I'm so sure. Because you always take care of your health, never drink alcohol or smoke," said Victor, who had been quietly snooping on his adopted sister's free-living activities. Ruby would no longer be surprised by Victor's words of truth. Victor had the money; he had the power, and Ruby must have been the one being monitored all this time for personal gain. "Umm. It turns out I've been monitored all this time," Ruby replied with a small nod. "Do you have a boyfriend?" asked Victor upon hearing Ruby's casual reaction. "Why don't you ask the people you hired to keep an eye on me? They'll know if I have a boyfriend or a guy just having sex," Ruby continued with a yawn, feeling sleepy from Victor. "No. I wouldn't believe you if you were having sex. Because you already said that I'm the first man to get your virginity," explained Victor, who recalled little Ruby saying out lou
Victor was still annoyed by Ruby's words from yesterday. His focus split, he no longer listened to the meeting this time. His fingers fiddled with the spinning pen with his legs wide open, pulling slightly on the tie that felt like it was strangling his neck. "Mr. Antony, how about my explanation?" Instantly, the center of attention shifted to him. Like a soul possessed, Victor showed the side of a leader and company owner that was more than just a name. "I will confirm this tender once again. I don't want to waste a large amount of money on something that is still lacking in planning," Victor explained straightforwardly and firmly. Everyone in the room just nodded in agreement, and Victor knew in their hearts there must be someone swearing at him. "I think today's meeting is enough," Victor said as he stood up and straightened his suit. He walked away from the meeting room, his footsteps quickening as he made his way to the elevator.Just now, he wanted to vent all his anger. He did
Ruby was silent in Victor's car. She bit her lip several times, imagining what would happen to her life in the next nine months. Let's just say that she would spend this year in hell with Victor Antony as her demon. The world was too small. Ruby should have left Boston, maybe her life would have been different at the age of 26. As Victor ran out of the pharmacy, Ruby returned to her sitting position, playing with her cell phone."Take it," Victor said, handing her some vitamins and a test pack."What for?" replied Ruby, staring at the plastic bag on her thigh. She had no intention of touching it, even though she could see what was inside."What a stupid question. Of course, it's for you in the future," Victor replied curtly.Victor started the car's engine and left the dispensary. He focused only on the road without turning around. Victor already knew the expression of Ruby, who was sitting beside him."Starting in the future. I don't want to see you eating junk food, drinking alcoholi
Victor placed Ruby's body on the surface of the bed. He pulled the covers up to his chest and turned off the lights. After a long drama, Victor finally managed to bring Ruby back to the apartment. For the time being, his anger was put on hold. Victor walked to the exit door and closed it slowly.Victor looked around Ruby's apartment, which was filled with bags of groceries. Victor squatted down, unbuttoned his shirt, and rolled up the sleeves to his elbows. He began arranging the groceries one by one into Ruby's fridge, all the contents of which he had previously thrown into the garbage can and even some food that was no longer suitable but still kept."Gosh, why is this apartment so hot?" Victor muttered, pushing his hair up.'I shouldn't have been adopted by your family!'Ruby's words replayed in his mind. Was Ruby so sorry for everything? Victor felt sorry for her, but he had no choice. Only Ruby could help him, there was no woman in the world that Victor could trust other than Ruby
Ruby waited in front of the ER room. The young pregnant woman was in labor, but there was no one to accompany her until this moment. Ruby waited with fear and anxiety—what if something went wrong?Ruby's phone rang again, and she could only grunt at the incoming call from Victor. If she didn't answer the call, she would be in trouble again."Hello Ruby, where are you right now?""At the hospital.""What happened?""Nothing.""Don't lie, I'll see you now! Tell me which hospital you are at right now.""No need; I'll be back as soon as the business is done.""No. I will see you."Ruby couldn't help but give the address of the hospital she was currently at. Ruby was too lazy to argue, she chose to give in and let Victor do whatever he wanted. "Rubyjane__,"Ruby turned her head and found Victor coming towards her. Ruby's body froze when Victor suddenly hugged her. Ruby froze. She didn't understand why Victor was hugging her at this time."Thank God you're okay," Victor said, releasing his
"Stay away, Ruby," Victor said, gazing in another direction. "Are you scared now? Or are you afraid of your angelic lover?" Ruby replied, still positioned close to Victor's face. "Your ears are red." Ruby continued touching Victor's earlobe. Victor brushed Ruby's hand away and gripped it. "Don't bait me, Ruby," scolded Victor, who didn't like Ruby touching him. "I'm just stating the facts. Why are you so angry when my words aren't as bad as your filthy mouth?" Ruby said, moving her body away from his and tying her hair. "What if Mom and Dad are still alive, knowing this? I think they'll forcefully marry me off to you," Ruby chirped, looking out the window. Suddenly, it was drizzling. The rain would be frequent, as it was already mid-October. "Daddy and Mommy, there's no way they're going to marry me off to a woman like you," Victor said as he started his car engine and drove at high speed through the rain. "Because I'm stupid, born into an obscure family background, and not hi
Since last night's embarrassing scene, Ruby slipped in front of her apartment. It shouldn't have happened! Until now, her face kept getting red at the thought of such an embarrassing thing. There was no kissing scene! Her body was immediately released, and she fell on the asphalt. Damn Victor! The one who had no mercy was laughing at her.As promised, the new bike arrived this morning. Much more expensive than Ruby's dream bike that she lost earlier, not lost, but Victor asked her to forget about it. "Thank you for the bike!" Ruby said as she touched the bike in front of her apartment. Ruby tried to get on the bike and walked outside. The weather in Boston today was friendly; it was neither hot nor rainy. It was cloudy, but Ruby was sure it wouldn't rain as the weather forecast had said. Unexpectedly, a bicycle approached her. Ruby's eyes widened when she saw a man she recognized smiling at her. "Noah, when are you coming back?" said Ruby, stopping her bike on the side of the road
Jaxon hummed a little while staring at his reflection in the glass of the sink, he wiped away the dew on the glass that was blocking the full face of his good looks. Fine hair began to grow shyly along his firm jaw, Jaxon always shaves regularly, every week but this week. He didn't think it was necessary. He will let all the hairs on his body extend naturally-except for the lower hairs. His feet stepped broadly out of the bathroom in a waist-length towel. Stopping at the table next to the television, there was the expensive wine Victor had given her. It was a pity to enjoy it too soon, she carefully poured it into the glass and sipped it slowly with her eyes closed. Tonight she was going to romanticize her long life, her body jerked in shock as the tone of her phone rang making her eyebrows furrowed."Damn it, I'll kill whoever ruined my romantic time!" he swore, grabbing the phone and looking at the caller's name."Victor?"He felt like retracting what he had just said. Jaxon caught
"Jaxon! Is my tie band skewed?""Jaxon! The shoes are too narrow!""Jaxon, Jaxon, Jaxon. Is Ruby ready?"Who's getting married and who's getting a headache. Jaxon had to hide behind the door to take a deep breath and let it out rudely, he hunched his body to correct the position of his tie, put on his widest smile until he had to show a row of neat teeth that were almost dried by the wind."Mr. Antony can't you stay calm? Sit down, breathe slowly. You're the one getting married, but I'm the one who's tired of dealing with you," Jaxon said, opening one palm to ask Victor to sit on the sofa.Victor sat down and then slightly lowered his head to inhale and exhale slowly. "I-I'm nervous Jaxon. It's my first wedding after a long wait, I can't help but be nervous." Victor stared at Jaxon with his hands clutching his chest. It was like winning dozens of tenders in one go."You're already perfect. You deserve all this," Jaxon praised sincerely. Jaxon also felt feelings of joy and sadness, he
On the other hand, Victor was waiting at the dining table. With Rune sitting on his lap, , he never let Rune eat on his lap like this. Rune had been taught to eat independently since he was one year old; since he was waiting for Ruby to come down, there was no harm in playing with his son first."Daddy, Daddy. Let's try to call Rune Daddy in full," Victor said, stroking Rune's tiny back."Daddy." Rune eloquently called Victor without stammering anymore.Until Victor showed his big smile for so long, unbelievably, when Rune repeatedly asked him to call him loudly, it was almost like a shout that did not bother Victor. He even praised Rune with loving compliments, kissing his little son Rune's face. Ruby, almost near the dining table, smiled with Rune's laughter. The interaction between father and son touched Ruby deeply, as she used to receive affection from her father as well. Victor's father treats Ruby like their own child, and Ruby understands why she was not adopted as their chil
It was already two in the morning. Still sitting on the floor surface, hiding beside the bed, Ruby kept reliving the events that happened a few hours ago. Her index finger didn't even stop rubbing her slightly swollen bottom lip, that hot kiss in the park had really made her heart pound. Hundreds of butterflies seemed to fly in his stomach, his heart beating almost intermittently with irregular breathing, as his eyes were stared at by Victor's beady eyes for a split second."When are you ready? I don't want to delay the wedding any longer, how about tomorrow? I have to prepare everything quickly. I don't want you to change your mind and cancel.""Victor-""No Ruby, no more procrastination. The sooner the better, the more you delay, the less certainty there will be. I'm old enough, there's no time to wait.""Then what about your girlfriend, Olivia?""Olivia? Since when has she been my girlfriend? And where did you find out about her, I'm not in a serious relationship with her yet.""Ho
19:00 Mansion"Rune. Why are you crying and screaming so loudly? Listen to Mommy; if you want something, ask slowly," Ruby said, soothing Rune after the servant asked her to leave."Mom-my. The bird is dead," Rune pointed at the television screen."No, it's not. It will come back to life," Ruby replied, understanding why Rune was screaming and crying.Rune nodded and pointed at the clock on the wall. Ruby frowned as her eyes also looked at the clock; why was Rune suddenly pointing at the clock?"What's wrong with the clock?" Ruby asked."Dad, come back."Just as Ruby was about to find out why Victor hadn't returned yet, at the sound of a car, Rune got out of bed and approached the window. Asking Ruby to open the balcony window, the window opened. Rune's tiny feet ran to the barrier, waving his hand, waiting for Victor, who had just gotten out of the car, to realize his existence. No reaction made Rune shout."Dad! Here!!!" Rune shouted.Ruby watched from behind as Victor smiled and wa
From that day on, Victor completely avoided Ruby. He always avoided her whenever he met her, even by accident. Just like today. After removing the cast on his leg, Victor returned to work so he had time to get busy and try to forget slowly. He tries and continues to try until Victor tries to stop loving Ruby. His desire to make Ruby feel free, so the only simple way he can do it is to forget Ruby first. Forget his feelings of love and consider what Ruby is doing to Rune as necessary."Is the steak not cooked right?" A woman's soft voice came back to Victor's ears. He glanced briefly at the woman before him; Victor had almost forgotten Olivia's existence. The woman had been getting close to him for the past few days; Victor liked Olivia's mature character - the way she spoke and her speech also reflected an educated woman. "Olivia, I'm sorry I forgot you existed," Victor said, putting down the fork and knife in both hands. He pulled the glass between himself and Olivia, taking a sma
"Who was the man who picked you up four years ago?" The car suddenly stopped on the shoulder of the road. Ruby turned her head and found Victor's eyes staring intensely at her, locked in silence."Who do you mean?" repeated Ruby."The man who took you away from the Netherlands. Who?"Ruby thought back to when she left the Netherlands. She started a life in Shanghai; the man she was with was just a stranger who also happened to be going to Shanghai."My ex-boyfriend. We broke up two years ago," Ruby replied briefly. I don't know why she preferred to lie.Click.Victor unbuckled the seat belt and brought his body closer to Ruby's. "Don't try to lie to me, Ruby; I know all the bastard men who approached you," he said."If you already know about all the men who approached me. Why would you ask again, uh? You have the power, but you have no right to invade the privacy of my life."Victor ruffled his hair, closing his eyes briefly, fed up with Ruby. Victor's hand quickly pulled Ruby by the
"I'll drive," Ruby said without a glance, stepping quickly into Jaxon's car. "How did everything happen?" Ruby continued, sitting behind the wheel. She started the car's engine and drove at high speed. The car she was driving had already left the hotel; Ruby's hands were deftly holding the steering wheel and focusing on the road, even though it was challenging to concentrate under these circumstances."Before we both stopped by a bar, I had much to talk about with Tuan, and so did he. I didn't realize how much whiskey I had sipped, so I felt a little drunk. It wasn't long before I heard the faint sound of Tuan's voice saying that he would drive," Jaxon explained in detail."I kept refusing and asked him to call one of the drivers at the mansion, as I knew he was probably a little drunk as well. He asked me to sleep along the way, and everything happened unexpectedly," he continued.Trembling. Ruby's fingers were trembling after listening to Jaxon's story; what if Victor had left her l
"What do you mean," Ruby said, pushing Victor's body away. She looked deeply into Victor's eyes, putting away her nervousness. Deepen the feeling of hatred! It was true that hating Victor more would reduce the unclear feelings in her heart."Do I have to give you quips to make you understand what I mean? I honestly don't like small talk; make it clear! That I was widowed until this moment waiting for you.""Widowed? You've been married all this time," Ruby retorted with a furrowed brow. Indeed, she hadn't looked up to Victor in years. "No, I haven't. I made that clear to you, Mrs. Antony," Victor continued, not accepting the thought of Ruby accusing him of being married."Stop calling me Mrs. Antony; I'm not married. Can't you tell the difference between Miss and Mrs.? And one more thing, my name is no longer Antony. Enough Rubyjane, Mr. Antony." Victor nodded with a slight smile. "Get used to it. You are no longer my sister but will be my wife."Once again, after hearing what Victo
