“And let me assure you, I always get what I want,” Adam said, evading a direct answer when I had every reason to question him.

“You’re being too egotistical, don’t you think?”

“Come. We’ll continue this discussion tomorrow. I’ll drive you home.”

Adam dropped me off in front of my apartment building, his familiarity with my address not escaping my notice. The question still lingered when he left: Why couldn’t I resist him?
