Stay
“Go get your filthy things and leave my house. You are not welcome anymore.”
“M-Mom, baka pupwede nating pag-usapan 'to—“
“I have made up my mind. Hindi kita anak, and you will never be my child!” singhal nito kay Heather. “Now go get that trash belongings of yours. And what you did last night was the last straw!”
Hilam ang luhang tumingin siya sa ina. “I told you! I didn't mean it, Mommy! I just snapped. Heather’s doesn’t care if she looks so desperate.
“I don't give a damn about your reasons. Leave, Heather! You were not meant to live here anyway. Julia may look enraged but she’s relieved and happy deep down.
I have nowhere else to go!” pagmamakaawa ni Heather.
Wala siyang mapupuntahan. Wala pa siyang gaanong ipon. She won't survive.
“Sana inisip mo 'yan bago mo 'ko sinagot-sagot kahapon.” Julia glared at her one last time before turning around. “Close the door and lock the gates as soon as Heather gets out of my house, Belen,” she ordered Yaya Belen as she graces the hallway back to the house.
She can see her clothes scattered on the fronyard while her luggages are beside her.
“Heather, sorry talaga. Hindi ko napigilan si Madam. Sinubukan ko naman pero—“
Heather stopped Yaya Belen from talking by squeezing her hand. Heather bit her lower lip and wiped her tears that are starting to fall.
“I-I’m not…sure.”
Pwede kitang pahiramin—“
Yaya Belen looked at Heather with sympathy.
“We both know that Mommy loathes me. At isa pa, I was not a very good daughter.
“I’m at fault too, Yaya.”
“Mas sila.”
The front door of the house opened.
“Don’t tell me you have no where else to go? Bakit hindi ka sa boyfriend mo tumuloy? I’m sure kakasya ang sampung tao sa penthouse niya. Do’n ka na lang manggulo,” she said mockingly.
It’s her own way of avoiding her sister. Ayaw niya ng makipag-argumento pa. Wala rin namang mapupuntahan iyon. She’s still going to leave the house.
She was about to open her car when she hear her sister talk once again.
“Why are you bringing that car?
Heather glared at her sister, making Driana’s smirk widen.
“What are you gonna do? Slap me? Hurt me with your weak arms?” She scoffed. “Subukan mo. Tingnan natin kung makakaapak ka pa rito.” She stepped forward habang nakahalukipkip pa rin. “I know your capabilities, lalo na kapag galit ka. But you have to understand…you don’t belong here, Heather. So stop forcing yourself in our family. ‘Coz you’ll never be part of it. You can throw fits as much as you want, but that doesn’t change the fact that your just a bastard. Sa totoo lang, mas pinapatunayan mo ngang bastarda ka talaga,” she seriously said as if she wanted to embed those words to Heather’s mind.
A short realization came into Heather’s mind.
These people…they are happy to see her suffer and beg. They are liking the feeling of being dominant. They are loving the desperate emotion on her face.
“Alam mo…Ate.” Heather matched the intensity of Driana’s stare. “I actually regretted that I spent most of my life trying to appease you all. I regretted being a good daughter and a good sister to you and Mom. If you regret taking me in, well I regret staying.”
A shadow of emotion crossed Driana’s eyes.
“Leave then.”
Heather swallowed the lump on her throat.
Heather was not good in handling emotions. The heavy feeling on her chest was dragging her body down, her knees weakening.
Gusto niya pang manatili. Pero siguro nga, this is the sign that she has to stand up for herself, alone. To survive this cruel world, alone.
She was not matured enough to save, to think of her future, and to stand without the guidance of anybody.
Heather took her phone while still sobbing. She went to her contacts and scrolled, thinking who to call.
She dialed Aidan’s number as she continued walking ‘till she reaches the village’s gate.
Then, a thought came to her mind…
Dumiretso na lang kaya ako sa penthouse?
Heather has her own key to Aidan’s penthouse. But she still kept it. Though, Aidan probably thinks she threw it away a long time ago.
Heather sighed when her call was not answered.
There was no one there. But the place is well-kept. But the fridge was empty.
Heather glanced at the wall clock and then at the beer. Parang gusto niyang uminom.
“Baka kakain ‘yon bago umuwi.” It’s still six in the evening.
I’ll just drink. Just one can.
Untrue to her words, ang isang beer ay nadagdagan ng isa pa, at ng isa pa. Hanggang sa hindi namalayan ni Heather na halos maubos niya na lahat ng beer sa ref. Until she feel asleep because of too much drunkenness.
“Heather? What are you doing here?
Heather groaned as she looked up to Aidan.
“Hey, Aidan…”
“Why are you here?”
“What? Why? What happened?” gulantang niyang tanong. Heather's Mom might be strict and uptight towards Heather, pero ‘di niya akalain magagawa nitong palayasin ang anak kahit pa nga hindi talaga sila totoong mag-ina.
Heather groaned again. Yumupyop siyang muli sa island counter.
“Aidan, I'm tired and I'm sleepy. Can we talk about this tomorrow? Gusto ko nang magpahinga,” she said.
Aidan had no choice but to let Heather be. He also took off her shoes and accessories before covering her body with a blanket.
Kinabukasan, both of them found themselves at the dining table, slowly eating their breakfast. Her arrival was short-noticed. That must be her reason why he has received numerous missed calls from her.
Nananantyang tumingin si Aidan sa kasintahan. Heather was casually eating like nothing happened yesterday.
“You can’t stay here for long,” Aidan said after a minute of silence.
Nagsalubong ang kilay ni Heather. “What? Why?”
“Because it's not safe! He looked genuinely worried.
Heather looked at her breakfast blankly. “I don’t care anymore, Aidan. I have nothing to lose now.
“What about me?”
Heather's eyes met Aidan's. “What do you mean, what about you?” The way she mixes her cereal was like of stabbing something repeatedly, like she was murdering it. I mean yes, your popularity may decrease since malalaman ng fans niyo na you’re in a relationship with another woman but what's the worst that could happen? Sa ‘ting dalawa, ako ang pinakamaapektuhan. I’m the one who's about to receive hate comments, threats, and pretty much will be bombarded by journalists.
She’s angry again, Aidan thought. “Paano naman ako na nag-aalala sa ‘yo? I want you to have a peaceful life.
Tanging sa ‘yo at kay Primo na lang ako may pakialam,” Heather said with finality in her voice.
She only cares about her friend and boyfriend now. So that she won't be attached. So she won't get hurt.
“Pero ako, mayroon. You can’t stay here for too long, Baby. Baka may makakita sa ‘yo.”
Her brows furrowed as she glare at her boyfriend.
Aidan’s lips twitched like he was about to say something pero hindi niya na lang itinuloy. Instead, he rubbed his own temple using his fingers.
“I don’t want to ask why Cali is suddenly involved dahil alam kong galit ka na naman.” “I’ll take a bath while you calm yourself down,” anito nang hindi siya nililingon.
“Fine! If you don’t want me to stay here, bukas na bukas ay maghahanap rin ako ng malilipatan!” she shouted as she watch Aidan close his room’s door.
“Nakakairita, alam mo ba ‘yon? Pakiramdam ko, labag sa loob niya na patirahin ako sa penthouse niya—more like, ayaw niyang doon ako tumira!” Heather whined at Primo habang sabay silang naglalakad-lakad sa park malapit sa Limelight.
“Maybe he’s just shocked.
“I thought you don’t like my boyfriend? Eh bakit parang pinagtatanggol mo siya ngayon?”
Primo stopped walking and faced Heather. “I’m just balancing your thoughts. Masyado kang naiinis,” sagot ni Primo. “Saka, hindi ko naman siya pinagtatanggol. Sa katunayan, I’m pissed at him. Bakit ayaw ka niyang patirahin do’n? It’s not like you’re a stranger.
She just can’t accept it. She’s too stubborn.
“Pero kung sakaling mayroon man, you still don’t have the rights to force yourself into his home. That’s a disrespectful thing to do,” dagdag niya pa.
“Pero wala akong mapupuntahan. Ni hindi pa nga ako sumasahod. Saan ako kukuha ng pambayad?” Bumagsak ang balikat ni Heather.
“If it’s okay with you, you can…stay in my apartment.”
Nanlaki ang mga mata ni Heather. “Ha? Ayos lang sa ‘yo? But I’m a woman and you’re...I don’t think it’s a good idea, Primo.”
Primo chuckled lightly. “Don’t worry. I have a house few kilometers away from my apartment.
“But like I said, wala akong pera pambayad.”
“Who says you’re going to pay me?” Primo looked at her incredulously. “You can stay in my apartment for free, for as long as you want.
He nodded. “Yeah. What are friends are for, right?”
Heather felt like a warm hand touched her heart.
“Thank you. Thank you!” Heather’s voice was filled with gratitude.
Ilang segudo bago makabawi, Primo hugged Heather back.
“Anything for you.”
Scandalous“Aalis ka?”Heather stopped packing her clothes and faced Aidan. It has been a week after their fight. She did not move in Primo’s apartment as soon as possible dahil naisip niyang sobrang nakakahiya naman kung biglaan. At isa pa, she spent the entire week looking for an affordable renting place. You wanted me to leave, right? Oh heto, aalis na ‘ko.” Ibinalik niya ang atensiyon sa ginagawa.“Have you found a place to rent? Kasya sa pera mo? Saan ‘yon?
Almost“Good morning, Roxanne. What can I do for you?” Heather gave her a very fake smile the moment she turned her chair around.“You can’t do anything for me but you could definitely do something for Primo.” Umuklo siya para magpantay ang tingin nila saka nagbabantang nagsalita, “Stay away from him. I know you’re just using him as a passing fancy dahil hindi kayo magkaayos ng boyfriend mo. That, or namamangka ka sa dalawang ilog,” nang-aakusa nitong turan.“What the hell are you talking about?” Naguguluhan at natatawa si Heather sa mga pinagsasasabi nito.“Oh, don’t use that innocent face on me. That’s never going to work.” Roxanne’s eyes
AloneHeather closed the apartment’s door frantically. She combed her own hair as she walked back and forth in front of the sofa in the living room. She was so shocked. She messed her hair out of frustration bago pabagsak na naupo sa sofa. She wanted to justify his actions—that that was nothing, but she can’t. Magkaibigan kami. At alam niya ang tungkol kay Aidan. Alam niyang may boyfriend ako,” pagkontra niya sa sariling naiisip. Again, the scenario earlie
ControlHindi niya alam kung anong sasabihin. Mukha itong batang nagmamaktol sa kaniya. Although his face looks adorable, Heather couldn’t help but to get slightly annoyed. Just slight.Primo Saavedra complaining to her like a little kid is something that Heather would consider as memorable and cute, but he sounded like a demanding girlfriend—he sounded like her every time she was complaining to Aidan. So this is how it feels like to be in his shoes. Hindi niya alam na masakit pala sa ulo.“Primo, you’re upset just because of that?”“Yes!”Heather scoffed. I’m using all that time to somehow adjust and fix myself? Do you really think finding myself and being independent at the same time can be done i
Her fists were clenching and unclenching simultaneously as breathing ragged. “If you want to say something, spill it.” Those words were like the switch that made Heather go off. “I can’t believe that we stopped at a bar just to fetch her! Are you out of your mind, Aidan?” When he said na may dadaanan lang sila, Heather thought it would be something—a thing! But hell no, it was a person. One of her most hated person! “She’s drunk. ‘Di niya kayang mag-drive mag-isa,” paliwanag nito sa kaniya. “And how come that become our problem?” sarkastikong tanong ni Heather. He’s worried sick of Cali.
PagodParang binibiyak ang ulo ni Heather kinabukasan. Halos mamingi siya sa sobrang sakit. Her head was throbbing like crazy.“Argh! Fuck!” she muttered a curse when her head keeps on throbbing even after minutes of being awake. Just what did I drink last night to have this kind of hangover?” she asked herself as she massage her temple. Heather keeps on doing that until she heard her room’s door twisting open. She suddenly became agitated. May kasama siya? But she can’t remember anything! Well of course she can’t, she was drunk! All she remembers was she got out from Aidan’s car—because of an argument she couldn’t remember, then rode a taxi, tand when she got home, she saw Primo outside the apartment. Her jaw slack at the memory. Si Primo!&
ReasonHeather was drowning with her tears when her phone rang. Ayaw niya sanang sagutin iyon pero nang makita niya kung sino ang tumatawag, mabilis pa sa alas-kwatrong tumayo siya at kinuha ang cellphone.“Aidan!” she called him out as she cried. It took him a few seconds to answer. “I’m outside your apartment.”Nanlaki ang mata niya. “O-Okay. I-I’m coming.” She can’t hide her reddish eyes so she just combed her hair and fixed her crumpled shirt before she rushed outside. When she saw him leaning on his car’s door, Heather ran fast and hugged him tight. At kung sakaling may gising pa at makakita sa kanila, wala na siyang pakialam.“I-I’m sorry…I’m so sorry. Pl
After the door is a small space and a desk. May babaeng nakayupyop ro'n and she's sleeping soundly. She did not notice this when she came here the first time. “That was my secretary, Natty. She's working her ass off for the past week kaya nang magpaalam siyang iidlip saglit, I did not hesitate to say yes. He chuckled softly.Heather couldn't make h

Natty invited her to spend the night at her Aunt’s house but she refused. She did not want to take advantage of Natty’s kindness. Margot’s smile wasn’t fazed by his tone. “I’m here to visit you, duh.” Margot rolled her eyes and pushed Primo so she could enter his house. She stopped walking near the sofa and faced Primo who was stunned at how comfortable she was acting — like it’s her own house.“I brought your favorite.” Tinaas niya ang paper bag na bitbit. “Hindi ka na pumapasok ng opisina. Did something happen?” she asked while roaming around.
“A-Ate?” Heather was beyond shock when she saw her sister in the flesh. And she’s not! Her sister is really here. In front of her! Hindi siya namamalikmata!“Anong ginagawa mo rito?” She was more nervous than surprised. It must be very important for her to actually visit her.“Margot Serrano. How did you know her?”Heather ’s ashen face gave Driana a hint that the woman might be telling the truth. With her poker face on, she continued talking without a filter.“Margot Serrano told me that you’re flirting with her boyfriend and th

Empty bottles of beer were scattered from the dining table to the floor. Nakayupyop si Primo sa lamesa, his arms were his head’s pillow. I know you’re not in a good place right now and it will be insensitive of me to ask you this but, I really need it.
I want you to never approach me again. Not to even utter a single word to me. From now on, let us live our lives without each other being part of it. He advanced closer to her, making her step back. Ito naman ang humawak sa gate. “You can’t do that.”
Let me “I can’t bear you being broken like this, Primo. I hate that girl for hurting you and not giving a shit,” mariing bulong ni Margot kay Primo. Primo did not answer. Just when he heard the door opened and closed is when he let go of Margot’s arms. He pointed Margot. “I am warning you, Margot. Stop messing with Heather!” he growled. “Why are you being like that? One second you were so calm and gentle tapos ngayon biglang…” She stilled. “You did that so she’d leave?” Tinuro niya ang sarili. “You used me?” she exaggeratedly asked. Primo sneered at her. “Stop being so overdramatic, Margot.” “How can I not be dramatic? You just used me—well at least, that gir

But she’s controlling herself because she knew it would make the air more awkward than it already is. Sa halip, hinarap niya si Primo.“P-Primo—““I don’t want to talk about it,” Primo dismissed the topic even before it has started. So what will he say? That he loves her and that he actually wishes for her and her boyfriend to break up para maagaw niya ito rito? That would end their friendship for good.&nbs
Story“That night…was also the night I met your father, Heather.”Napatitig si Heather sa ina matapos marinig iyon. She was smiling. But not a smile of happiness. It was a smile of sadness.“Siya ang nag-table sa ‘kin noong gabing ‘yon. He said he was broken. He said that his wife was cheating on him. Well, iyon ang tingin niya. Kaya siya naroon. At gusto niya akong gamitin para gumanti.” Umiling ang Mama niya. “Basically, we used each other. He’s a doctor. He’s rich. I know that that h
