Jenna stood dumbstruck. She never expected Kevin to take such a risk and kill Ivy's father just to make a statement for her. What had she done to deserve this? For this man to unhesitatingly turn his back on his brother to protect her? The edges of her eyes were frayed red. She picked up her phone, wanting to type something. However, she did not know how to phrase what she wanted to say. Her fingers ended up holding down the ‘w’ button on the screen. Kevin wanted to wipe away her tears for her. His hand jerked briefly but did not lift them in the end. He then spoke, "I was the one who failed to protect you in the past and made you get hurt. It won’t happen again. “Even if Boss keeps letting Ivy have her way, I won’t be so kind if she lays a finger on you. Anyway, it's getting late. Go to bed. “We’re leaving on a boat in two days.” Jenna nodded. After brushing her teeth, she still was not sleepy. She sat on the edge of the bed and typed a message on her phone. [
Kevin leaned over and pressed a key that made several pictures pop up on the laptop display. The quality of the pictures were excellent. However, Jenna did not recognize the people in them except one. She was only framed halfway into the picture and was in the middle of speaking to a young lady standing in front. “Is that Aunt Lily?” Kevin gestured at the middle-aged woman in the picture that was only half visible. “When I was checking the surveillance footage, I found out that Jacqueline’s driver had been in contact with the young lady in front of Aunt Lily in this picture… Jen, did Aunt Lily ever do anything to you when you were at home?” After a pause, he asked again, “For example, have you ever felt any discomfort when she was around? Has she ever touched your phone or your computer?” It was harrowing enough for Jenna to find out she was nothing but a tool in that man’s hand. Now that Kevin had shown this to her, she realized there was a pain worse than the previou
[Aunt Lily never touched my phone or my computer. My throat...] Jenna thought for a moment, then began typing. [She went to Fabell City to see her grandson and returned after two days. A few days after that, I began to feel a constant sting in my throat. All this time, I assumed my vocal cords were damaged by that man strangling me.] [When I went to the hospital for an examination, the doctor told me that the damage done to my vocal cords was not serious and that I would recover in time. Even when I got back to Hevedburgh, my voice still hadn’t returned.] “Aunt Lily must have tampered with your food and damaged your vocal cords that way,” Kevin determined. "It's alright. You’ll never have to eat her cooking again. I’ll take you to the hospital when we get to Yendrow.” Jenna stared at Kevin for a while, which made him self-conscious. He touched his face, “Is there something on my face?" Jenna shook her head. [Thank you, Kevin.] “I just hope what I said wasn’t too harsh
It was the first time Jenna had ever held an object like this. Its weight rested against her hand, and her fingertips were trembling. She quickly composed herself and held it firmly before giving Kevin a nod. She watched as Kevin opened the door and got out of the car. He immediately confronted those men charging at him. His movements were sharp and agile. He swiftly jabbed a punch at one of the men charging at him and knocked him out cold in an instant. A hint of fear appeared in the eyes of the others. However, they soon gritted their teeth and charged at Kevin again... Meanwhile, a few others decided to take advantage of the window while Kevin was being mobbed. They wrapped around to the other side of the taxi so they could get Jenna. As soon as they approached the car, Jenna quickly loaded the gun. She lifted the gun and fired at the car window. The recoil of the gun made her hand throb with pain. Meanwhile, the bullet fired through the glass and hit one of the m
“I'll do it myself.” Kevin got slightly flustered. Jenna eyed him and said in a humorous tone, “You’ve been sharing a room with me for a few days and now you’re getting shy?” Kevin opted against getting two rooms, in case someone broke into the room at night and he could not get into the room in time to protect Jenna. In the end, he could not fend off Jenna and obediently took off his clothes. When they were in the car, Kevin seemed unfazed, mentioning that it was only some minor scratches. Jenna believed him. After he removed his clothes, she saw countless new wounds and aggravated old scars riddled across his lean chest. There were even fresh knife cuts. She took a deep breath and looked at the wounds without blinking. Then, she felt like she was going to tear up. She gently touched the wound with her finger. “Does it hurt?” “They’re just flesh wounds. During my military training, we could even handle having several ribs broken. Those hurt way more than this.”
After drinking several spoonfuls of soup, Kevin’s eyes glowered. “Wow. You’re a great cook, Jen! This has got to be one of the best fish soups I’ve had in my life! “I could eat this for a month if I had to!” “Really?” Jenna cracked a faint smile upon receiving the compliment. “If we’re still here tomorrow, I’ll cook the same thing again. I hope you meant it when you said you won’t get sick of it.” “Sure.” Kevin smiled and made a look. “Why would I get sick of your cooking? If anything, I’d want more.” He had truly meant it. Jenna’s cooking was far better than the food in any restaurant. After lunch, she washed their clothes. Then, the hostess told Jenna she was going to the supermarket and asked if she wanted to tag along. Jenna decided to go with her. While shopping, the hostess asked Jenna if she was in town for work. Jenna could tell the hostess was merely asking out of curiosity and had no malicious intent. So, she answered with something she came up with on th
She was the only person in the study when Old Madam Forester passed. Even if she said she had nothing to do with her death, nobody would believe her. If they did, she would not be wanted by the police across the country. Without warning, she suddenly recognized a familiar figure in one of the shaky but otherwise clear pictures. The man did not avoid the camera like the other Foresters. He kept his head held high and seemed completely indifferent to the presence of the reporters. There was an invisible and intimidating aura around him that made people tremble with fear. Jenna had been relatively calm the last few days. However, the moment she saw him, she felt a throb in her heart as if someone plunged a knife into her… She quickly turned off the phone, her expression haggard. She did not turn on the phone again after that. Instead, she turned on the TV in the living room to find something to watch. The child seemed to grow curious when she saw Jenna and proceeded to g
“Yeah, I heard about it.” Jenna noted with a brief smile and watched as they left. When she turned off the TV and turned to return to the room, she saw Kevin leaning against the door and nearly jumped. “How did you not make a sound when you came out?” “I just did.” Kevin formed a fist and coughed against it before suggesting, "Let's go and have some fun as well.” “Is your body fine?” “It's just a flesh wound. It’s not like I was shot.” Kevin shrugged and seemed quite at ease. “We’ve been staying in hotels and hostels ever since leaving Hevedburgh. It’s getting pretty boring.” Since it seemed like Kevin was desperate to go out, Jenna was not against it. With that, the two headed out together. The light show was an annual tradition of the locals in the area. While they were walking down the street, they could see all the local men and women dressed up in their traditional clothing. They all had bright smiles on their faces, seemingly very happy because of the ligh
