Three years ago, he had known she couldn't have children but had insisted on marrying her anyway. Now he was saying he needed an heir, and of all people, he had chosen Juliet, her foster sister.

Seeing Catherine remain silent, Gabriel decided not to bring up her pain again. He walked over, helped her onto the sofa, and asked gently, "Is your stomach hurting? I'll take you to the hospital tomorrow."

Catherine immediately refused, "I don't need your help."

Going to the hospital would surely reveal her pregnancy, which would truly be dangerous.

Gabriel was displeased. The hand resting on her shoulder tightened slightly as he sternly said, "Don't be stubborn. I'll give you a spanking."

This was a playful remark often exchanged between couples, but to Catherine, it felt bitter. She replied, "My face just healed. If you want to hit me, go ahead. It wouldn’t be the first time."
