“You’ve already done more for me than I could’ve possibly asked for. I’m grateful for that; not many people would have done that Mr. Gray. I’m pretty sure you have some place to be as well and based off of the suit you’re wearing, you’re an important and busy man. Please, don’t allow me to be a hindrance in your business matters.”
With a gentle tone, Derreck replied to her.
“Miss Jackson, respectfully, I am offering to take you to your place of work. If you do not want me to accompany you, I can have someone come and get you instead of you finding other ways of getting there. Besides, it’s basically impossible to hail a cab here.”
Leah revealed a grim expression. He was right; this was the upper echelon and there were NO cabs or any form of travel service around. She looked up at the man who had helped her on more than one occasion now, and responded gratefully and gracefully.
“Then I’m afraid I will have to trouble you once again, Mr. Gray.”
He let go of her wrist and nodded to her.
“Ms. Jackson, lead the way.”
They both walked out of her hotel room and once again made their way down to the lobby. After exiting the elevator, they walked out of the revolving doors and into the 2023 Mercedes Benz C Class, deep blue. Being the gentleman that he is, Derreck opened the door for Leah and waited for her to enter the car. Once she was in the car, he approached the driver’s side door and entered. He then started the car and asked Leah for the address.
“Where to Ms. Jackson?”
“1221 North Place Ave., Trentwood, Aurenda.”“Jackson Industries?”“You know it?”“Who wouldn’t! They’re ruthless when it comes to business. How did you end up working for them?”“Well Mr. Gray, as my last name is Jackson, it’s only right that I work there.”“You’re the Senior Jackson?”“You catch on rather quickly Mr. Gray. Yes, that’s me, however, don’t put me in the same category as them, in terms of their ruthless behavior.”“Ms. Jackson I didn’t mean it that way.”“It’s fine, I’m used to it.”She turned her head to look out the window, not wanting to continue the conversation further. She was used to people looking at her with disdain. They always expected the same viciousness and coldness in her eyes, yet she didn’t display that; she expressed gentleness and patience. As much as she hated her family now, she was tied to them, but in name only. Derreck proceeded to head towards Jackson Industries. Leah continued to keep her head out the window, so Derreck decided to break the silence.
“It’ll take about an hour or so to get there.”
“I know. It’s why I wasn’t looking to trouble you Mr. Gray.”“Derreck. Call me Derreck.”“I appreciate you driving me Mr. Gray.”Derreck didn’t know what to say after that. It was infuriating for her to call him by his last name, but she didn’t know him from Adam, but still, he was upset and he still didn’t know why. The drive was quiet for another 20 minutes before he spoke up once more. This time, however, he chose a different topic of discussion.
“Is there anything that you want to know about me Ms. Jackson?”
“No need. I don’t expect that we’ll cross paths again.”Just then, Leah’s phone buzzed. She grabbed her phone out of her purse and saw the name on the screen and her expression grew very dark. Derreck noticed this and he hadn’t seen this expression on her before now. If looks could kill, whoever it was, would be DEAD. She clutched the phone in her hands fiercely and took deep breaths to calm herself.
Calm yourself Leah.
She grabbed her phone and looked at the message once more on the screen.“You better have a grand excuse as to why you are late today! If you aren’t here in the next 30 minutes, consider your position removed from this building! I will turn the company over to Brigette if I don’t see you in the next 30 minutes.”
She cringed at the sight of the message on her phone. Nevertheless, her fingers began flying across the keyboard. She replied. Let. Him. Have. It.
“I will be there within the hour. As for you wanting to give the company to that HALF-WIT, do what you must! If I don’t have to travel there and waste my time, let me know RIGHT NOW! I will turn around and mind my own business. You want to sit here and threaten me through text, be a man and call me!”
She sent the text and shoved her phone in her purse; as soon as she did, her phone rang. She grabbed the phone out of her purse and had a sinister smirk on her face as she answered the phone.
“Leah, you may be a woman, but I will beat you senseless! How dare you be so shameless when speaking to me?”
“Well dad, you didn’t give a shit about me when you allowed Brigette to be with Jason now did you? You didn’t give a shit about my feelings, but yet you have the AUDACITY to try and scold me for being late to work! Do what you will Dylan Jackson, I don’t give a shit anymore!”“Leah, you’re fired! And I will give this damn company to Brigette! At least she appreciates the things I do!”“Well dad, when your company goes under, don’t come find me to fix it and make a comeback! Screw you, your wife, that HALF-WIT and Jason too! I hope you all are happy! Mark my words Dylan, I will make you pay for every wrongdoing you have EVER passed onto me! You will beg and plead for my help! MARK. MY. WORDS! I’LL MAKE YOU PAY!”With that, she hung up the phone. She had forgotten where she was in that moment. Derreck just stared at her in shock. She really wasn’t like them when it came to business, but when she’s crossed, she’s just as ruthless as they were. Leah calmed her emotions that were in a whirlwind and spoke, forcing the rage and the hurt back deep inside of her.
“Mr. Gray, you can continue on. I’m sorry that you had to hear that. I forgot where I was in that moment.”
“Ms. Jackson, when we get to the company, would you like me to stay behind?”“No need. I’ll make my way back to the upper echelon and back to the hotel.”Well, I’m already fired, so what more could they do? As this thought occurred to her, once again, her sinister smile reappeared on her face. They were about 15 minutes from Jackson Industries now.
“I can stay behind. I’m already late anyway, plus it’s my company, so they’ll be fine.”
As he finished his statement, he called Peter.
“Senior Gray, how may I be of assistance sir?”
“Push my morning meeting to 1100. I’m running late today.”“Yes sir, right away.”“And Peter?”“Yes Mr. Gray?”“Prepare the documents that are required for this morning.”“Yes sir, right away”With that, he hung up the phone. Leah couldn’t believe it! Someone that she knew for less than 24 hours, was doing more for her than her family did in 24 years! She was grateful, but she couldn’t help but feel like a burden. When they arrived at Jackson Industries, she got out of the car and walked into the building with her head held high.
“Good morning, Vice President Jackson.”
“Good morning, Barry.”She made her way to the elevator and pushed the 21st floor. The elevator wasted no time in getting her there. When it stopped on the 21st floor, she gracefully stepped into the hallway and stormed into the CEO’s office. When she got to the door, she grabbed both handles of the tall glass doors and flung them open. Her rage had taken over at this point!
“I told you not to bring your ass up in here Leah!”
“Did you?”“Security!”“Wow father, you would have these people carry me out? Huh, I thought you were better than that.”Dylan shot the security guards an icy glare.
“Leah, damn you! You are stripped of your title!”
“You expect me to beg like that insolent daughter of yours?! You don’t give a damn about me! She’s not even the rightful heir, yet you give her the company without hesitation! You’ve got some NERVE!”“Damn right I do! Get the hell out of my office!”“Or what?”Why did she ask that question. Dylan stormed over to her and raised his arm.
SMACK! The crisp sound echoed throughout the office and into the hall. Then once again, SMACK! Dylan no longer cared about this ungrateful daughter of his. She came here and decided to be shameless in front of him and DARE be a hard ass!
“So instead of allowing Brigette and me to battle it out, you do it yourself? How shameless!”
As she spoke, she spit in the nearby trashcan and realized that she spat blood. Dylan wasn’t satisfied and Leah enraged him even more. Once again, he raised his hand to slap her face. SMACK! SMACK! Both of her cheeks were now swollen with a red hand print on either side that was made visible.
“Dylan Jackson, you’ll pay for this! You’ll regret crossing me!”
Leah walked out of his office and into her old office. He smacked her in public, so he deserves this and more! She grabbed all of the things in the office and slammed them to the ground. She threw her trash can at the glass door until it shattered. She felt her heart soften because that’s how they made her feel; broken, damaged. Once she was satisfied with the damage in her old office, she made her way back downstairs, though her face was swollen, her confidence was sky high!
What is taking her so long? I’d better go in there and check. Before Derreck could go in, Leah was walking out with her head held high and her cheeks reddened. What the fuck happened in there? She approached the car, opened the door and got in.
“Drive Mr. Gray.”“What the hell happened in there?”“Nothing.” He observed her face and touched her cheeks gently. He saw the visible hand print that was spread across her face. “Leah, what happened? Who hit you?”“Mr. Gray, it is none of your concern. Can you please take me back to the hotel?”“Hell no! I’ll take you somewhere so you can get treated for that wound. Whoever it was, I’ll rip them to pieces!” Leah was stunned. Why was he acting like they were a couple? He knew little to nothing about her, but he was treating her better than Jason ever had! Why am I feeling like this with her? I just feel like I have to protect her, like I want to be there for her. Calming the anger in his heart, Derreck began driving back to Gray Enterprise. He called a doctor, his friend, Garrett Jones, to come and have a look at her. When they made their way back to the upper echelon and back at Gray Enterprise, they used Derreck’s private elevator to get to the CEO/President’s office located on
He sat on the chair across from her and looked into her deep blue eyes while asking his questions. “How old are you?”“24. You?”“26. What’s your favorite color?”“Purple. Yours?“Blue. Favorite thing to do in your pastime?”“Read. Give me something more complex. You?”“Playing golf like an old ass man with my buddies or going to one of the private rooms at the lounge nearby.”“Interesting. How long have you been in business?”“Since I was 19. How about you?”“Same. At the time, my dad told me that I would take over Jackson Industries. It’s the one thing I wanted more than anything. For 2 years, it was mine, until Brigette forced her way into the company. After that, it felt like a competition with her. We’re sisters, well half-sisters, but sisters nonetheless. It’s hard not to fight or be in competition with your sister and we’ve been at each other’s throats all our lives. I always got the short end of the stick. Anyway, how has work been for you?“Well, I only have a younger brothe
The tears continued to fall and the drive seemed a lot longer than it actually was. When they got back to the office, Leah gently wiped her tear-stained cheeks and got out of the car. She made her way to the elevator next to Derreck, and she grew silent.Once they got to the 22nd floor, they walked to Derreck’s office and Leah sat in the main office, while Derreck made his way to his private office. It was now 2 in the afternoon. Leah found herself drifting off to sleep on the couch. Derreck stepped out of his office and was heading to his lounge, when he noticed her small figure sleeping soundly on the couch. Her chest rose and fell as her breathing remained even; he messaged Peter and asked him to bring a blanket to his office. He also asked Peter to keep quiet upon entering. When Peter got into the CEO’s office, he brought the blanket to Derreck. Derreck thanked him with a simple nod and draped the blanket over her small figure. Derreck asked Peter to inform all staff that they wer
Hartley let out a chuckle.“Slow down son. It means that I can retire as Alpha. And yes, that means that you’re the Alpha now. But not just of any pack, the Purple Moon Pack. Your Grandfather has wanted you to know about your identity since your 18th birthday.”“Most wolves turn on their first full moon after they turn 21, however, you didn’t. I figured that you never would, but we also came to realize that it was because you didn’t grow up knowing, nor did you grow up with the pack. The reason you feel for her the way that you do, is because you’ve found your mate!”“My what now?”“Your mate and without even looking for her! Once you find your fated mate, your wolf instincts take over and become very dominant and aggressive in nature in wanting to protect your counterpart. You’ll have to go through training to be able to summon your wolf.”“Once summoned, he lives in you and he will do what’s necessary to protect her, while being an Alpha. A bit of a warning Derreck, don’t be pushy a
Leah then dialed her best friend, Lillian’s number. She had to catch her up on these current events. Ring. Ring. Ring. “Leah! Dammit girl, I haven’t heard from you in over 2 weeks, what the hell!?!”“Nice to hear from you too, Lil.”“You bet your ass! I miss you though boo! How is everything? What’s been happening?”“Girl! I hope you’re sitting down.”“Why? What happened?”“Well, so much within the last 24 hours.”“Holy hell, okay. Tell me what’s going on babe.”“Okay. So yesterday, me and Jason were supposed to go make the final adjustments for the wedding. It was like 8 @ night so, I figured we weren’t going anywhere anymore and I was furious. But, I was not expecting the bull that he pulled last night. I was about to call him because he was taking so long and I heard some noise coming from downstairs right? I walked out of my room and onto the balcony and this DIRT BAG had THE NERVE to be standing at the bottom of the stairs NEXT TO BRIGETTE HOLDING HER HAND!”“You’re lying! I kn
Leah waited for the clerk to come back with the documents. She was gone for about ten minutes before reappearing. “Thank you for your patience, Miss Harrison. Would you like to take a new photo, or keep it the same?”“A new photo please.”“Okay, come around to the right and I’ll meet you at window 3.”“Thank you.” Denice went around the corner and to window 3. “Look into the camera for me and stand behind the white tape on the floor. I’ll count to 3 and if you want to smile, you may. Ready?“Ready.”“1,2,3.” Click. “Perfect. It’ll be printed in 10 minutes. You are welcome to have a seat while I get those printed out for you. Here are your documents for the title and the insurance.”“Thank you ma’am.” She couldn’t believe that she had finally changed her name! She had been a Jackson all her life; her great-grandfather was a Harrison and her mom was too, before she changed it, so it was only right that she took on their last name now. From there, she would make her way to the bank a
While Derreck was in the kitchen and away from Denice, she used an incognito window on the laptop to book her flight for the following day to head to her grandfather’s home country. She would tell him all the details of the recent events when she got there. For now, she just needed to focus on getting out of Aurenda and creating a name for herself. Denice had always kept in contact with her Grandfather, but she never mentioned it due to the circumstances. While Derreck and Joshua were in the kitchen, they spoke quietly and briefly.Joshua had a playful smirk that danced across his features. “So, that’s why you had that smile on your face yesterday?”Glaring at him, Derreck responded. “Mind your business, little brother. She’s leaving the country anyway.”“Really? And I don’t believe that she slapped herself.”Derreck’s aura became icy and his gaze darkened dramatically. ‘Calm yourself Derreck. Remember father’s words.’After closing the web browser and obtaining her receipt of confir
He then grabbed his appraisal glasses to look at the diamond, in order to inspect it further. The study remained quiet with Denice gazing intently at the way Hartley inspected the ring. Derreck watched her and couldn’t help but be in awe of how beautiful she looked. The way her beautiful blue eyes were focused on his grandfather’s movements, her jet black, long hair and rounded out nose. While Hartley spent his time looking at the ring, he thought to himself.‘Indeed, she has a bright future. Her abilities far outweigh Derreck’s, maybe even mine. However, if she can master it and learn it, she will become a force to be reckoned with. She should also be careful though; she has to learn how to protect it. Since she’s not fully aware of the power she holds, it’s not much of an issue, however, it’s only a matter of time before she does explore it. This ring proves that she is well underway to acknowledging and learning her power; it will no longer hold her back. She will rise like a Pho
After getting everyone to safety and initiating the lockdown protocol, Denice and the warriors checked the perimeter.“Your Majesty.” Jason began. “We understand that you are the monarch and need to protect your people, but as your Royal Guard, you are our number one priority. We will do all that we can to find and eradicate the threat once and for all, but we need to get you to safety Your Highness.” He finished.Denice looked at him. “I appreciate you taking your role very seriously, but as you have stated, it is my duty to protect my people. It doesn’t matter how many crazed psychos I have looking after me, the Prince and Princess are my succession. I don’t care what happens to me and I have made peace with that.” ‘Mate or not.’ She linked him then continued aloud. “But I will not stand in the shadows while my people put their lives on the line to protect me and this kingdom. My succession is all I care about.” Denice finished.Jason bowed his head. “Yes, Majesty. We will continue t
Hello readers!School has officially started back up and I am managing A LOT better this semester than I was last semester. I had 2 math classes that were kicking my ass, but this semester my load is slightly lighter. I do also work full-time, so please keep that in mind. Now, I have made Nolan a bit more emotional than most male leads have been in other books that I've read or noticed. This is because Denice has had her fair share of bullshit. She is going to open up to him in a way that she can and only she knows how. When you've been hurt like that, it's not an easy task to open up to someone and be so open to the idea of a relationship, much less a mate bond. In my own mind, I sometimes wish we had our own mate bonds; a way to feel what the other person feels and tap into what they need, but at the same time I don't .. that's just me though.Anyway, I will shift gears and slide a way into going back to Aurenda and showing what's going on there, but I'm focusing on Denice; she's my
Denice got off of Nolan’s lap to face him. He stood up and pulled her closer to him. Nolan’s eyes were searching hers and their lips met in a fiery, but passionate kiss. Denice smiled into the kiss. “As much as I love the attention you give me and being away from eyes and ears, we have to talk about something.”Nolan pulled away from her slightly. “I could drown in your affection all day long and I can’t wait to drown in your screams.”Denice’s skin burned from the heat of his gaze and his words. “Easy Alpha. For now, the council doesn’t know that we’re mates or that I’ve accepted the bond. We will have our mating ceremony once the Purple Moon Pack is out of our hair. Until I’ve told the council and the pack, we can’t have any PDA going on. They would want to push the mating ceremony on me and that’s not what I want. I want that done in OUR time, on OUR terms. I will choose you every day, in every life, every time. I love you Nolan and I know it seems sudden, but that’s what the mate b
Denice continued sobbing uncontrollably while in Anna’s arms; she was pissed, she was hurt, but most of all, she was terrified. Terrified of losing her mate, pissed that her brother went against her wishes and waited for months to tell her about it, and hurt that Nolan walked away.It took a while, but Avery had finally caught up to Nolan. “Alpha Whitfield, can we talk?”Nolan was pacing in the middle of the clearing. “Prince Avery, please let me be alone for a while.”Avery stood rooted in the spot. “That’s something I cannot do. You need to hear the whole story; only then will I leave you to your thoughts.”Avery sat down in the lush grass and began. “Since we found each other, Denice has dedicated her life to looking after us and our kingdom. She didn’t want the mate bond to hold her back and at the time, she was mated to Alpha Gray back in her home country. Denice realized that she would never be able to be at 100%, nor would she be able to be a Luna, since that isn’t her only titl
The room was eerily quiet. Alexander stood with his mouth agape, Avery’s aura was shifted to one of utter confusion, Anna was in awe and Garrett stood with a questioning look in his eyes.Dr. Jason knocked twice before entering the room. Nolan’s gaze was still fixated on Denice, as he stroked her hair softly. After removing the tube from Denice’s throat, she coughed uncontrollably. Artemis was still in a groggy state, so she couldn’t mind link just yet, but Nolan knew exactly what she needed.“Doctor, can you bring a cup of water with a straw please?” Nolan asked the doctor without turning his head.“Of course, Alpha. I’ll be back momentarily. Your Majesty, after bringing your water and after you’re up for it, we’ll run some tests. We are beyond grateful that you are awake, but we still want to monitor your progress and keep an eye on things.” Dr. Jason informed her.Denice nodded softly and Dr. Jason excused himself before leaving her room and getting some water for her. After Dr. Jas
After stepping out of Kai’s room and finding a private space inside the palace, Avery, Garrett and Alexander each grabbed a drink and gulped it down in one go.Avery looked exasperated as he spoke. “Are you fucking kidding me!?! We got rid of one and now there’s another?! When are we ever gonna catch a fucking break!?!”Garrett looked at Avery. “What do you mean another?”Avery sighed exasperatedly and ran a palm over his face. “Remember we told you about the war? We had a traitorous bastard then and one of the Alphas were executed as a result.”Alexander looked thoughtful for a moment. “You don’t think he’s come back, do you?”Avery looked at Alexander. “It’s possible; he does have some sort of vendetta against us, so I wouldn’t put it past him. Besides, we weren’t able to find him that day and we still haven’t heard a word, which makes me nervous. He must still be working with someone here and I won’t rest until we find out who! We’ve done everything necessary to protect our kingdom
Dr. Justin stood rooted in his spot. Avery looked down the hall at Nolan and Anna gasped.“I will take you to her.” Anna stated slowly.Alpha Nolan took a deep breath and walked over to Anna. He was given a change of clothes before he made his way deeper inside the palace. As he walked, he was silent the whole way to her makeshift room and when he walked inside, his heart shattered, and his limbs grew heavy. The sight of his new mate in her state made the world crumble beneath him. After what felt like hours of staring at her unconscious body, he found his voice. “How bad is it?”Avery looked at Alpha Nolan with so much suspicion; it wasn’t because he didn’t trust him, quite the opposite. He’s seen what he’s capable of on the battlefield, but Denice wasn’t the battlefield; she was his sister. He loved his siblings with all his heart and Denice wasn’t awake to confirm the newly formed mate bond. Alpha Nolan hadn’t been around her since she rejected Jake, so acknowledging that she has a
They maneuvered through the packhouse both swiftly and silently. The horrors of mangled bodies throughout the packhouse were now burned into their minds. ‘Get on my back and keep your senses sharp. The slightest thing you notice, you tell me. Hold on tight and don’t let go. I will protect you; I promise.’ He demanded Anna, his aura imbued in his every word.Quickly, she got onto his back, and they continued up several flights of stairs to get to where they believed Denice and the others to be.“I saw her go this way. I’ll finish the job when she comes out of there. She can’t stay up there forever.” A voice said near the Alpha stairs.‘Anna, is there another way up?’ Garrett asked Anna through the link.‘In the Alpha’s office on the first floor. In the closest, there’s a hidden elevator that can only be accessed with a code.’ She answered back.‘Let’s go.’ He stated firmly through their link.He made his way back down the stairs and into the Alpha’s office. When they got in there, they
Garrett looked around the room calmly. “You can’t be serious D?!” He asked her full of shock.Denice sighed and walked around the front of her desk.“On the contrary Garrett, I am. A lot has happened since I left Aurenda and I’ve had to shoulder many responsibilities, including being a Queen over this land. Avery has not completed his Alpha training and quite honestly, I don’t want him taking over that pack. As a Royal, his place is here within the Royal grounds; especially after what we’ve been through since I got here.” She sighed and walked over to the window. “Garrett, I trust you, along with the people inside this room. Even my grandparents are exempt from that trust.”Garrett looked somber. “What happened to you?” His eyes filled with tenderness.Denice sighed. “Enough. We’ve all been through so much together and they have all been patient as I sat taking shit from all sides. Avery and Anna unfortunately must be kept under a watchful eye at all times; it’s not something that I wa
