The hubbub of sound that was left in the wake of Kael's passing crushed typical speech. Luna felt her heart flutter. She stretched her hand out, hoping against hope that there was still a hidden trace of Kael. But her fingers touched only empty space, driving an icy torrent deep into her bones. The once-thought formal presence of Kael was now just a void, a hollowness that looked pleased as it fed off their dejected emotion.

Alec broke the silence first, his voice a choked sound. "He is gone. Kael sacrificed himself... for us."

Luna swallowed, fighting back tears. "He did it to save us from what the Void was doing. To weaken its hold. But... I can't believe that he is really gone."

Kade's grinding teeth directed us (its, casual or formal usage) toward the pulsing shadows in the walls. "If this sacrifice was for the sake of this, then we can't let it go in vain. We must bring Jax back and end this."

Sensing their revived hopes, the stone walls widened toward a dark narrow tunnel that t

Emerging from the dark corridor, Luna, Jax, Alec, and Kade later stood on a clearing touched by moonlight, gasping as fresh air filled their lungs. The hollow grasp of the Void had given way; however, the chill still lingered and served as a reminder of what they had done - and of what they had lost.Alec decided to break the silence first while looking around the woods. "So, is that it?"Jax's expression morphed into the face of sorrows, though relief washed over him. "The Void is gone - for now anyways. I don't know if it's really over." Kade placed an arm on Jax, steadying him. “It’s over as far as we say it is. You fought hard, Jax, against something none of us saw coming, Kael…”The silence that followed was heavy. Then Jax lowered his voice and filled it with regret. “I still can’t believe it. I was so close to losing myself… and to hurting you. I… I don’t know how to face this.” Luna stepped close to him, picked up his hand into hers, and started to stroke it soothingly with

With that, the four of them joined the rest of the pack in an area of the village. They gathered in a solemn circle around them. Luna took a step forward, the weight of her words behind them."We fought the Void and tested us in ways we would never have imagined. Yet he…" Her voice broke as if she needed to collect herself. "Kael sacrificed his life to ensure our return. He was braver than any of us knew."Jax's voice broke as he ended, his vulnerability on his sleeve, saying, "Kael wasn't just brave; he was selfless. He taught us that our strength is in each other. And I… I lost sight of that. But I'm not losing it again."A tear slipped from Luna's eyes, and Alec wrapped his arm around her. "We carry him with us. And we will keep fighting for the bond he protected.""Let's carry out his wish, for ourselves. He won't get us to die for nothing," said Kade, a sorrowful resolve in his voice.A hush fell in the air as the pack members bowed their heads in silent remembrance of Kael.As d

“Seek me, Luna… the darkness is false… not as shallow but as ever deep.” When the whisper thinned, Luna's heart raced and her breath hitched midway. She looked round, but the shadows encircling her remained still."What is it?" Alec's voice quickly stirred her as he saw the expression of concern in her eyes.Luna hesitated; her voice came out in the slightest whisper. "I think… I think Kael is calling me. But not just him. Something else… something buried that we have missed."Alec frowned, his brow knitting together with confusion. "What are you saying, Luna?"Before she could answer him, there was a tremor in the ground, and far away in the forest came a long, low rumble—an ancient and deep warning that struck fear in the hearts of those present. Luna's heart skipped as her eyes met Alec's."The dawn's not coming," she said, her voice quivering. "Let's go."Like a pack, the four of them melted into the darkened forest, following the retreating echo of Kael's call, every step taken

Then everything went black, leaving Luna there alone, heart beating wildly, as a voice-whose voice, twisted and unfamiliar, whispered through the darkness."Are you ready to face the real you, Luna?" Alec took a great breath, then steadied, “What… where are we?”Kade peered at the wall of the cavern fissure, extremely tense, “It's like the Void, yet totally different. I feel… pressure, something's watching us.”Luna stepped forward, glancing into the shadow where Kael's transparent visage stood. "Kael?" she whispered, almost breaking. "Is it really you?"Kael's form briefly wavered, smoke-like and erratic; his eyes reflected pain mixed with something immaterial. "Yes, Luna. But I'm not the Kael you used to know."Alec took a tentative step forward, his eyes widely opened in disbelief. “What do you mean? You saved us. You sacrificed yourself to destroy the Void.” Kael turned his gaze toward Alec, his eyes filled with an immeasurable sorrow. "If you fail, you stay. Just like me."Luna

"Answer me!" Alec's voice cracked, ushering in an awareness of anger and pain. "Yes!" Jax shouted in a breaking voice. "It's true. We're soulmates. I've known for months, but I didn't tell you because I didn't want to ruin everything!" Alec took a step back. He wore a furious storm of emotions on his face. "Ruin everything? You think lying about something this important doesn't ruin things?" Kade stepped between them, his voice calm but firm. "We don't have time for this right now. Focus, both of you. Mira's the threat here, not each other." Mira clapped her hands together to gain their attention. "Oh goodness! The truth spills out—something is coming to the surface." Luna growled, stepping forward. "These games need to stop. If the moon's power binds me to you, then I shall sever that bond myself." Mira laughed and shook her head. "You can't. The power resides in your soul. But, if you like to give it a try," She pointed to a glowing relic on the cavern floor, the same one

Luna stood in a shadowy place where the ground was cracked and barren. The wind slapped past her face. It was cold-and whispered some things that Luna could not comprehend."Alec!" she yelled, the echo of her voice lost in the depths of nowhere."I am here." The tone was very low and resigned. She turned to see him sitting languidly on a stone, his face in his hands."Alec, what's the matter?" she asked as she hurried toward him.He did not look at her. "You should not be here, Luna. This… this is my burden.""What burden?" she insisted, kneeling in front of him.Alec finally raised his head, revealing the despair in his eyes. "The truth. About why I joined this pack. About why I stayed."Luna frowned, perplexed. "You are part of our family, Alec. Why would you not stay?""Because I was not supposed to be here," he spat bitterly. "I was sent to spy on you."The words landed on Luna like a punch in the gut. "What?"Alec looked away, shame on his face. "Mira sent me. Before any of this

With diseased howlers all around in the icy wasteland, the storm danced viciously around Luna; her heart raced as she replayed Mira's words in her head.“You're lying!” screamed Luna, her voice shaky. With her smirk becoming more profound in collision with the encroaching snowstorm, Mira's eyes glowed an eerie silver light. “Am I? Think a little more about it, Luna. All along, all the signs were there. The moon always pulled at you stronger than anyone else. You’re one connected to the relic, the one breaking its seal. You were marked from the very beginning."Luna choked as her mother's voice broke through the noise.“It’s true, my moonbeam.” Her mother appeared wrapped like a mirage, an expression of sorrow on her face. “The moon chose you at the very hour when you were born under the Blood Moon. Your tie to it is everlasting.”“No!” Luna's voice cracked as she shook her head. "This can't be right. I didn't ask for this!"Kael stepped forward with his face contorted with rage. "Sh

Her mother tilted her head, undisturbed by what to contemplate. "The moon chose you for your strength, not as a punishment. But it must be built, not assumed. The gift of the Agthan Jane lies asleep because you've still not accepted who you are.""And who am I supposed to be?" Luna put forth with swelling eyes. "A lamb? A savior? What does the moon want out of me?"The ground beneath her rippled, and images began to form-her parents during their last moments. They were swallowed in the inky dark and sweat fighting with everything they had in them to protect something Or someone.Luna felt as if she were sinking within. "What is this?"After a moment of silence, her mother's voice was a mere whisper. "The night we died. We weren't just protecting the pack at all…we were protecting you".Luna staggered backward, the enormity of the truth crashing upon her. “Me? Why? What could I have ever done in my childhood to be worthy of dying for?”“You were born under the Blood Moon,” Mother expla

"Then how do we pass it?" Kade asked, his voice tight with barely suppressed anger."We face it," Luna said, stepping forward despite Alec’s protest. Her voice steadied as she spoke to the figures. "If you’re here to test us, then let us prove ourselves. No more games."The figures all seemed to tilt their heads slightly, as if pondering her words. At last, one spoke. "Very well, Moonbearer, but know this: truth is a two-edged sword."The shadows receded a bit, but not enough to feel safe. The room changed again. This time, it was an oval arena with walls lined with mirrors. Each reflected a distorted version of their faces: anguish, rage, and despair."Choose," the voices said. "Look into the mirror that calls to you, and face what you fear most."Luna hesitated, her heart racing. The others were throwing worried looks around the group."This is insane," Jax said softly, his hands clenching and unclenching at his sides."No," Luna whispered, matching his gaze. "Thank you. All of you."Before anyone could respond, the ground beneath them trembled a bit and there was a faint sound of a distant drum.“Now what?” Jax muttered, drawing his weapon. The mist in front parted to reveal a huge stone door covered with delicate symbols that appeared to glow faintly.“The Veil’s core,” Morgana whispered, her expression uncharacteristically serious.Luna stepped forward, her heart pounding. “What’s behind it?”She caught Morgana’s gaze, and this time there was a sincere note in her voice that was unexpected. “The truth.”Her hand reached out to the door, without laying on it a voice as if it from nowhere pierced her heart.“Luna…” That was her mother's

“I already made my choice,” Luna said firmly.“Have you?” the figure asked, almost mournfully. “Your heart is divided. It carries the weight of loyalty, love, and trust. Yet beware—hearts that are divided cannot survive under the burden of the Veil.”Alec stepped forward, jaw set. “Leave her alone. She doesn’t need your cryptic warnings from some ghost.”The figure turned its glowing gaze toward Alec. "And you, Protector, what will you do when the Moonbearer's light burns too bright for you to stand beside her?"Alec’s expression darkened, but before he could retort, the figure turned its gaze to Jax. “And you, Guardian of the Spirit. For how long will you mask your insecurities with wit?”Jax flinched, his mask of confidence faltering.“And Kade,” the figure said, turning to the silent warrior. “Do you ever intend to release the shackles of guilt, or will it drag you down into the darkness?”“Enough!” Luna shouted, her voice slicing through the tension. “You don’t know us. Corvin's smirk evapor, and for the first time, his face turned solemn. "The Moonbearer’s power is not a blessing, but a curse. To wield it is to become well beyond the norm, half the world more than likely would not recognize. It means sacrifices."“What sacrifices?” Luna demanded. He pointed to her friends. “The connections you’ve built. The life you’ve lived. The love you’ve discovered. It all could be lost.”Alec stepped forward, his voice resolute. "Luna, you need to listen to me. We're going to take on whatever we do together. Don't let him frighten you into the wrong choice."Corvin’s gaze flicked to Alec, and his silver eyes narrowed. “You say that now, but wait until she turns into something you can’t protect anymore. Something you can’t even begin to understand?”“I’ll take that risk,” Alec said without hesitation.Luna’s world turned to mud as she looked at the people who had shaped her world. Alec, Jax, Kade, even Morgana with her sick twist had been part of her story. And

That is my pain”.“We didn’t want you to be burdened with it,–” Alec began with a pleading voice. “You already had so much trouble, Luna. And those choices of theirs have not always been virtuous."Luna’s head spun with the weight of Morgana’s words crashing down upon her. “What does that mean?”“It means,” Morgana said, her tone dripping with venom, “that they’re as much your guardians as they are your possible downfall.”Before anyone could make an objection the earth shook as if it would fall to pieces a
