Then everything went black, leaving Luna there alone, heart beating wildly, as a voice-whose voice, twisted and unfamiliar, whispered through the darkness.

"Are you ready to face the real you, Luna?"

Alec took a great breath, then steadied, “What… where are we?”

Kade peered at the wall of the cavern fissure, extremely tense, “It's like the Void, yet totally different. I feel… pressure, something's watching us.”

Luna stepped forward, glancing into the shadow where Kael's transparent visage stood. "Kael?" she whispered, almost breaking. "Is it really you?"

Kael's form briefly wavered, smoke-like and erratic; his eyes reflected pain mixed with something immaterial. "Yes, Luna. But I'm not the Kael you used to know."

Alec took a tentative step forward, his eyes widely opened in disbelief. “What do you mean? You saved us. You sacrificed yourself to destroy the Void.”

Kael turned his gaze toward Alec, his eyes filled with an immeasurable sorrow. "If you fail, you stay. Just like me."

"Answer me!" Alec's voice cracked, ushering in an awareness of anger and pain. "Yes!" Jax shouted in a breaking voice. "It's true. We're soulmates. I've known for months, but I didn't tell you because I didn't want to ruin everything!" Alec took a step back. He wore a furious storm of emotions on his face. "Ruin everything? You think lying about something this important doesn't ruin things?" Kade stepped between them, his voice calm but firm. "We don't have time for this right now. Focus, both of you. Mira's the threat here, not each other." Mira clapped her hands together to gain their attention. "Oh goodness! The truth spills out—something is coming to the surface." Luna growled, stepping forward. "These games need to stop. If the moon's power binds me to you, then I shall sever that bond myself." Mira laughed and shook her head. "You can't. The power resides in your soul. But, if you like to give it a try," She pointed to a glowing relic on the cavern floor, the same one

Luna stood in a shadowy place where the ground was cracked and barren. The wind slapped past her face. It was cold-and whispered some things that Luna could not comprehend."Alec!" she yelled, the echo of her voice lost in the depths of nowhere."I am here." The tone was very low and resigned. She turned to see him sitting languidly on a stone, his face in his hands."Alec, what's the matter?" she asked as she hurried toward him.He did not look at her. "You should not be here, Luna. This… this is my burden.""What burden?" she insisted, kneeling in front of him.Alec finally raised his head, revealing the despair in his eyes. "The truth. About why I joined this pack. About why I stayed."Luna frowned, perplexed. "You are part of our family, Alec. Why would you not stay?""Because I was not supposed to be here," he spat bitterly. "I was sent to spy on you."The words landed on Luna like a punch in the gut. "What?"Alec looked away, shame on his face. "Mira sent me. Before any of this

With diseased howlers all around in the icy wasteland, the storm danced viciously around Luna; her heart raced as she replayed Mira's words in her head.“You're lying!” screamed Luna, her voice shaky. With her smirk becoming more profound in collision with the encroaching snowstorm, Mira's eyes glowed an eerie silver light. “Am I? Think a little more about it, Luna. All along, all the signs were there. The moon always pulled at you stronger than anyone else. You’re one connected to the relic, the one breaking its seal. You were marked from the very beginning."Luna choked as her mother's voice broke through the noise.“It’s true, my moonbeam.” Her mother appeared wrapped like a mirage, an expression of sorrow on her face. “The moon chose you at the very hour when you were born under the Blood Moon. Your tie to it is everlasting.”“No!” Luna's voice cracked as she shook her head. "This can't be right. I didn't ask for this!"Kael stepped forward with his face contorted with rage. "Sh

Her mother tilted her head, undisturbed by what to contemplate. "The moon chose you for your strength, not as a punishment. But it must be built, not assumed. The gift of the Agthan Jane lies asleep because you've still not accepted who you are.""And who am I supposed to be?" Luna put forth with swelling eyes. "A lamb? A savior? What does the moon want out of me?"The ground beneath her rippled, and images began to form-her parents during their last moments. They were swallowed in the inky dark and sweat fighting with everything they had in them to protect something Or someone.Luna felt as if she were sinking within. "What is this?"After a moment of silence, her mother's voice was a mere whisper. "The night we died. We weren't just protecting the pack at all…we were protecting you".Luna staggered backward, the enormity of the truth crashing upon her. “Me? Why? What could I have ever done in my childhood to be worthy of dying for?”“You were born under the Blood Moon,” Mother expla

"You are mistaken." Kade's voice cut through the tension. He walked forward, intent upon Mira, pain eclipsing the amber in his eyes. "The moon's favor does not come from death or bloodshed. It comes from balance. Something you have shattered." "Do spare me your naive wisdom, boy. You are a broken wolf clinging on to scraps Luna throws to you," she sneered. Kade stood still, Jax bristled next to him. "Say that again," Jax growled, eyes blazing. "I dare you." "Enough!" Luna's voice rang out and silenced them all. She took a deep breath, hands shaking, a difficult motion as she transited her focus to Mira. "This isn't about them. It's about us. Whatever grudge you have, whatever the moon told you to do, it dies here." Mira tilted her head. "You think you're prepared to face me? Little heir; you've scarcely begun to touch your power. You can't even control it." "Maybe I can't," Luna stammered. "But I don't have to control it by myself." She turned back to her pack, voice softeni

Luna's glance moved between the two. "Are you saying... that I can't do this without every one of you?" "No," said Alec earnestly as he advanced toward her. "You can do this. You are the strongest person I know, Luna. Strength, however, does not mean you should do it alone. Let us help you if we are part of this." Kael rumbling an affirmation, "We got your back, Luna. Always." Jax crossed his arms, his golden eyes softening as he nodded and said, "Like it or not, we are stuck with you." Kade stepped closer, placed a warm hand on Luna's arm. "Whatever the moon demands, we will face it together. You're not going to shoulder that weight alone." Luna's chest constricted, and warmth spread through her despite the fear permanently lodged in her. "You guys...” Her voice broke. She quickly cleared her throat. "Thank you. Really." But before the moment could settle, the ground beneath them began to rumble. A soft, ominous hum pervaded the chamber as a faint outline of a doorway formed on

Before anyone could respond, the voice again boomed through the cavern. "Aw, how touching," Mira drawled, with too much sarcasm. "Nothing warms my heart like watching a pack fall apart." They turned toward the sound, but their shadows danced and twisted to obscure her position. "Where are you?" Luna demanded, her voice shaking with anger. "Right where I need to be," Mira said, her laughter echoing. "And you're right where I want you-fractured, doubting, and oh-so-tempting to break further." Alec snarled, "Show yourself, coward." "Why hurry, darling? You'll see me soon enough." Her voice turned ice cold, shaking the cavern. "But first, let's see how strong that bond of yours really is."The ground beneath them shook violently, and the quake rapidly divided the group, a rugged chasm forming separating Luna and the others. "Luna!" Alec cried, reaching for her, but the distance became too wide. "I'm fine!" Luna reassured, clutching the relic as it shone faintly. "Stay toge

Kael's hand rested on her shoulder, surprisingly tender. We will stand by you whatever happens. You are not in this alone". Kade knelt next to her, tenderly. “The moon chose you for a good reason, Luna, and I daresay part of that reason is because you can draw us back together. All you have to do now is let yourself." Jax let out a long sigh, his voice crudely fading. “Look, I know I've been a little jerk. But it's out of concern. I do care not to lose you. Any of you." Luna forced a smile on her face, tears still rolling down her pale cheeks. "You guys..." They stood in silence for a moment, feeling each other's trembling hearts cocoon them inside a bubble of luminescence. Alec finally broke the silence; his voice was light but earnest. "So, what's the plan, Luna? We are with you. Whatever you decide." She breathed deep into her chest, the warmth of their support filling her spirit. "Only that we shall stick together. Malachai's expression darkened, and the smile faded from his lips. "Be careful, Amara. You've made plenty of mistakes yourself. Want me to remind you of them? Start with bringing Luna here."Luna’s eyes jumped back and forth between them, her voice carrying the questions. “What does he mean, Amara?”Amara hesitated and in that moment, the laughter of Malachai echoed again, sharp and biting. "Oh, she didn't tell you? The relic, the visions, even your awakening - it was all her doing. You didn't find this path by chance Luna. You were chosen for it."“Amara?” Luna’s voice shook. Betrayal sliced through her like a knife."It's not what he's making it sound like," Amara said quickly, her tone desperate. "I…yes I guided you here but only because you're the only one who can stop this."“You used me!” Luna shouted, stepping back. “You knew I was a pawn in this, and you said nothing?”Before Amara could respond, Malachai took another step closer, his voice dripping with venom. "But now, you s

The group hurried on, the anxiety taut as a string preparing to clash with the coming storm. The trees flanking them rustled eerily in the wind, a far-off sound of growling carried in the breeze.Alec pressed the blade tighter, his voice low but sharp. "We have to move. Now."Luna glanced up, the light of the moon pouring down on their path. “How far to the nexus?”Amara pointed east. Her voice was sharp. “Less than a mile, but it’s through thick brush, and Malachai will have traps laid out.”Jax smiled as he drew his twin daggers from their sheathes. “Traps are him. Getting past them is on us.”Selene looked at him witheringly. “That’s easy to say when you don’t have to walk in there.”Jax winked. “That’s why I’m charming. To keep morale up.”“Can we focus please?” Alec growled, clearly losing his patience. “Luna, you stay close to me. If anything comes at you—”"I can take care of myself," she interrupted, her tone authoritative. "I'm not helpless, Alec."He sighed then ran his hand

The woman hesitated and gazed at the moonlit sky, her doubt showing for the first time in her eyes. It was the first time uncertainty had shown in her eyes. “Because of the relic... it’s not just a source of power. It’s the key.”Jax frowned. “A key to what?”“To the Moon Gate,” she said quietly.Luna’s breath hitched. “The Moon Gate? That’s just a legend.”The woman shook her head. "No, it's real. And if Malachai opens it, he will unleash a power that will consume this world and everything in it."The voice of Selene was laced with skepticism. "How do you know all of this?"The woman's eyes hardened. "Because I saw it before. I was there when the last gatekeeper fell. I watched Malachai betray his blood to gain the relic."Luna’s heart clenched. “His own blood?”The woman nodded her head. "Malachai didn't only kill your parents, Luna. He killed his brother- your father."The news came like a thunderclap. Alec stood frozen, with his fists clenched at his sides. Jax’s mouth fell open,

She looked up at Luna and said in a voice that was quiet yet steady, ”It’s not a matter of liking it Jax. It is the matter of doing what needs to be done”.Alec paced for a while and then turned to her, his face more than angry but also desperate. "Necessary? Luna, losing your connection to the moon—your power—it's not just a solution; it's a death sentence for who you are."Selene crossed her arms and leaned against a tree. "She's not wrong, Alec. Without the moon's power, you won't just lose your strength, Luna. You'll lose your identity as a wolf."Luna shook her fists, attempting to steady her shaking hands. “I know what it means. I’ve thought about it ever since... ever since the relic bonded with me. If this is the price to stop Malachai, then it’s worth it.”“Worth it?” Alec echoed, his voice rising. “Do you hear yourself? You’re speaking like you’re expendable.”Jax’s tone was sharp. “We all are scars when Malachai stops. Or do you think we’ll come out of this no one SCAR?”“T

The silence was deafening, cracked only by the popping sounds from the flames. While Pack members wore varied expressions, Luna stood in the center, her gaze flicking between them.“I’m going,” she said firmly, her voice the only sound in a silent afternoon.“No, you are not,” Alec said, growling, his golden eyes fixed on hers. “We already talked about this. It’s a trap, Luna.”Luna hugged her arms across herself, looking back at him with equal intensity. "Of course it's a trap," she said, "but if we do nothing, Malachai wipes everything out. He'll come to open the gateway Alec."Jax leant against a tree, arms folded, neither happy nor sad. “She’s right. We cannot afford to just idle, waiting for him to tell us what he wants done next.”Alec turned toward him, his voice rising. "And you think the solution is to send her straight into his hands?"Jax smirked, but it did not have any humor in it. "I did not say that. But we lack the luxury of time, don't we?"Selene stepped forward, he

Alec pulled Luna's hand, his voice calm yet demanding. "We're leaving. Right now."The woman stepped back into the shadows, her parting words doing so. "It is in your hands, Luna, to keep the balance. Do not allow the darkness to wear you out in this way".As they ran to the open space of their territory, Luna’s mind was filled with questions, doubts and fears. But there was one thing that was clear: the match wasn't over. And the second time they encountered Malachai, running would be out of the question. The group barely returned to the safety of their territory when the forest erupted with sinister howls. Alec paced in the clearing by the fire pit, his nervous energy had him moving much more than normal. His wolf energy crackled in the air, right then as he was very frustrated.“We can’t keep running,” Alec growled, his golden eyes flashing. “The Pack of Malachi is closing in and every moment we waste, we’re losing the ground on.”Selene crossed her arms and leaned against a tree,

Alec growled and stepped closer. “Don’t listen to him, Luna. He’s just trying to mess with your head.”"Am I?" Malachai's smile widened. "Or am I finally revealing a truth that even the moon has hidden away?"As they had no time to answer, the ground under their feet began to tremble. The deep bass note vibrated in the air and Luna felt her chest burning awfully at the place where the relic’s energy was still there.“What’s happening?” she gasped, clutching her chest.Malachai's eyes sparkled with victory. "The awakening, Luna. The power of the relic has already begun to stir within you. Soon, however, you'll come to realize that light cannot exist without darkness; even your eyes will be blinded by the truth."The hum got louder and an opening in the ground, glowing with a light from another world, appeared between them. Luna’s knees buckled as the power inside her surged, threatening to devour her.“Luna!” Alec shouted, catching her before she fell.Selene reached for her too, a pan

Alec paused, as if he were selecting his words very carefully. "Luna, you and I… there’s a connection. Something deeper than I can put into words. "And you're just now telling her this? Alec, what the hell?""That's not so easy," Alec said, defensively. "I didn't see it that way until now. The moon showed me in the Lunar Chamber."Luna’s head spun with the confusion of a million questions wanting to pour forth from her. Another growl snapped her back to the present, however."We need to move," Alec said, urgently. "Malachai won't stop until he has Selene, and his Pack is crawling all over the forest."Selene’s aura flared again, but this time it was weaker than before. “If he wants me, let him come fight me himself.”"Don't be reckless!" Alec snapped, frustration boiling over. "You are

Luna's vision gradually returned—an interplay of silvery light, whiffs of cool air caressing her skin and the faint harmony of power all over her. She blinked and understood she was no more in the clearing. The expanse was huge and bright where walls were made of glittering crystals that it felt like they were going to pulsate with the rhythm of a heartbeat. Above her a huge moon hung there as if suspended, casting its ethereal glow.“Where… where am I?” Luna murmured.A soft groan escaped that drew her attention. A few feet away lay Selene, her form also curled in a silver aura. Luna scrambled beside her and started shaking her gently.“Selene, wake up!”Her eyes opened slowly, still flashing brightly with that unearthly silver. She got up, glancing around in bewilderment. “What place is this?"“I don’t know,” Luna admitted, helping her up. “But I think it’s connected to the relic—and the moon.”“The Lunar Chamber.”Both women turned at the voice. There was a form, cloaked in shadow
