Raze kept glancing my way uncomfortably, but one look from Marie had him standing and minding his own business a good ways away.

"Going home?" Marie asked in a lightly taunting voice.

I nodded, trying to keep composed. She was an intimidating alpha. Her companions stayed silent and perfectly still as she spoke.

I noticed then that their car wasn't parked away from the Kingdom, as would make sense, but back toward it. Our eyes met and she knew.

Slowly, she took a slim cigarette out of a pack and handed the pack without looking to a beta who took it immediately. She lit the cigarette with

a sleek lighter and pressed it to her lips, letting it hang just at the edge. She didn't inhale but let the smoke curl into the air around her.

"We weren't really expecting anyone else to be on the road so early," she commented.
