Chapter 264

Shane spent a good four hours in the bath, waiting for the effects of the medicine to completely dissipate. By the time he got out, it was well past two in the morning.

He reached for a towel and bathrobe that Zac had prepared. He wrapped himself up and headed to the door.

As soon as he opened it, he spotted a petite figure crouching at the doorway. It was Haley.

She sat huddled on the ground, arms wrapped around her knees, looking pitifully exhausted. She could barely keep her eyes open, her head bobbing like a chick pecking at seeds, as if she might collapse at any moment.

Shane's heart softened, and he slowly crouched down beside her. Perhaps his gaze was too intense, for Haley slowly blinked open her eyes. They were misty, hazy, and still half-asleep.

Shane asked her, "What are you doing here? Why didn’t you sleep in your room?"

Haley rubbed her eyes and looked up at him. "Mr. Ford, you're finally out? Are you feeling okay? Is there anywhere that still hurts?"
