Amelia

As soon as Amelia walked through the front door, the familiar scent of home welcomed her—lavender and vanilla, her mother's favorite fragrance. She dropped her bag on the couch and sighed, rubbing her temples.

It had been a long day.

Between the awkward group project meeting, Blake’s irritating presence, and the shocking revelation that his mother was her mother’s long-lost best friend, Amelia had a lot on her mind.

She barely had time to process it all before her mother appeared from the kitchen, a warm smile spreading across her face.

There you are,” She said, opening her arms. “How was your day, sweetheart?”

Amelia allowed herself to be enveloped in her mother’s embrace, the warmth easing some of the tension in her shoulders.

“Exhausting,” she admitted, pulling away.

Her mother chuckled. “First days always are.”

Amelia hesitated. How was she supposed to drop this bombshell?

Oh, by the way, Mom, remember your best friend from high school? Yeah, I met her today.

That didn’t se

AmeliaAmelia stormed through the hallway, her steps quick and purposeful. Enough was enough. She had tolerated Blake and his entitled nonsense for too long. Catherine and her minions had pushed her patience to the limit, and she wasn’t about to let them get away with it this time. If the school had any sense of justice, something had to be done. She reached the principal’s office and knocked firmly on the wooden door. When there was no response, she tried again. Still nothing.A sigh came from behind the front desk. Amelia turned to see the school secretary, a middle-aged woman with rectangular glasses perched on the bridge of her nose. She looked up from her computer screen, arching a brow."Principal Jerkins isn’t in at the moment," the woman said, adjusting her glasses. "You’ll have to wait if you want to see him."Amelia exhaled sharply. Of course. Just her luck. "Do you know how long he’ll be?"The secretary shrugged. "Shouldn’t be too long. He had a meeting with some board memb

Amelia hadn’t thought much of it at first, but now, as they neared their destination, she could feel her mother’s excitement radiating off her.“You know,” her mother said, her voice laced with nostalgia, “I still can’t believe Evelyn's son is in your group. What are the odds?”Amelia shrugged, her gaze fixed on the trees lining the road. “Maverick High isn’t that big. It was bound to happen.”Her mother chuckled. “Still, it’s a pleasant surprise. Evelyn and I were inseparable back in high school. We did everything together.”Amelia turned to look at her mother. “Then why did you two lose touch?”A shadow passed over her mother’s face. “Life happened. College, work, marriage... We both got busy. "Amelia! Breakfast is ready." Mrs Thompson said from the kitchen."Coming Mom," replied Amelia from her room upstairs where she had been arranging her things for her new school.Seventeen year old Amelia Thompson was a stunningly beautiful teenager with long jet black hair, she was tall and athletic with light freckles on her face. This was going to be her first day at Maverick High school and she hated first days at school, with all the students staring at you like you were some kind of alien. Her Dad had been transferred from his place of work and they had to move so they could be closer to the new workplace. His transfer also came with a promotion which meant an increase in salary. Even before all of this, Amelia barely saw her Dad. He left for work every morning before she woke up and got back home late at night after she must have gone to bed. Now with the promotion at his place of work, all of this was about to be made worse. She always complained to her mother about this bu

Blake Andrews looked himself over at the mirror again, adjusted his tie and then smiled. At seventeen years old, he was tall and huge with sunny brown hair and a dimple on his cheek whenever he smiled. He was the school's football captain and also the school's bully and resident bad boy of Maverick High school, also very proud and pompous. All the girls fawned over him, always trying to get his attention. He dated a few and broke the hearts of many. This was a new school's year and the beginning of grade Eleven."One more year and I'd be out of high school" he said to himself. He was also going to turn eighteen next year and as the only child and heir to the multi-million dollar company his family owned, he'd finally be able to take over the family business. It was an old tradition in the Andrews' family that whenever the heir turned Eighteen, the company was handed over to him or her."I can't wait.'' he muttered to himself. At that moment, there was a knock on his room door."Come i

Amelia looked around the school's building, trying to get familiar with her surroundings. Her Mom had told her to go straight to the principal's office so that he could show her to her classroom but now, she had no idea on how she could get there. She thought about asking one of her fellow students for directions but none of them even seemed to notice her. They all walked around with their nose up, with an air of superiority."Snooty, snooby Maverick High students". She muttered to herself. Just then, she heard a beep on her phone. She took it out and it saw that it was a text message from her Dad. She opened it and read; ''Amelia darling, Good morning. Your Mom told me that she already dropped you off at your new school. I hope you're good. Enjoy your first day at school. Love you.''She smiled and was about to text back when she mistakenly bumped into someone."Oh, I am so sorry, I didn't see you there.'' Blake Andrews couldn't take his eyes off the new girl. Her name was Amelia, he had heard that when she introduced herself earlier. He was a bit shy when she caught him staring. He had never been shy in the presence of any girl before, this was the first time. He couldn't deny the fact that he already had a crush on her."Damn it." He said to himself. He had never really been in love with any girl before. Girls were supposed to be in love with him, not the other way round. Almost all the girls in Maverick High had a crush on him and he loved the attention he was getting from it. He couldn't possibly be in love with someone he barely knows. Or can he? He thought. Either way, he made a mental note of walking up to her after class and telling her he liked her. Just then, Charlie leaned over and whispered in his ear."The new girl, she is beautiful, isn't she?" Charlie said."Yeah, she is.'' Blake said. Charlie had also been staring at Amelia ever since she stepped into the class, he was

BlakeBlake had always known that his mother spoke fondly of her high school years. It was one of the things she never got tired of talking about—her best friend, Ruby Bridges.Growing up, he'd heard the name more times than he could count. Whenever his mother talked about friendship, loyalty, or memories of high school, it was always Ruby this, Ruby that.It used to annoy him. He'd never cared much for his mother's nostalgic ramblings, and he certainly never thought he'd meet the daughter of the famous Ruby Bridges. Yet, here Amelia was.It was interesting. His mother had adored Ruby. He could still remember the way her eyes lit up whenever she spoke about their high school days. And now, standing here, realizing that Amelia was her daughter, things made a little more sense.Amelia had that same sharp wit his mother always described in Ruby. The same stubbornness. The same unshakable confidence. No wonder she got under his skin. Still, the realization didn't change the fact that she

  • Our Love Story    Chapter Twelve

AmeliaAmelia did not want to be here. If she had a choice, she’d be anywhere but Blake Andrews's house right now.Unfortunately, not participating in the project wasn’t an option. It would tank her grade, and that was the last thing she wanted. She had always been a straight-A student, and she had every intention of keeping it that way, even if it meant spending hours in the same space as Blake, Catherine, and whatever unnecessary drama they decided to bring.Blake was a necessary evil at this point. She didn’t have to like him—she just had to tolerate him long enough to get through this project. She had received a message earlier in the group chat Blake had created, containing his house address along with a smug comment about people not being late. Amelia had rolled her eyes at that, but she had plugged the address into Google Maps anyway. The drive wasn’t too long, and when she arrived, she couldn’t help but be impressed.Blake’s house was a mansion. The driveway stretched long and

Blake.Blake wasn’t sure what was more ridiculous—the fact that he had been studying all morning or the fact that he actually cared about impressing Amelia. Not that he’d ever admit it cause if Charlie found out, he’d never let it go.Blake leaned back in his chair, flipping another page in the physics textbook he had borrowed from the school library. His room was quiet, save for the occasional scratch of his pen against paper. The notes he had scribbled looked nothing like his usual ones—this time, he was actually paying attention to what he wrote instead of just doodling in the margins. It was absurd. He was Blake Andrews and he had never needed to study before. Teachers either cut him slack because of his status, or he managed to scrape by without much effort. But after that physics class the other day—after Amelia had completely shut down his rooftop experiment idea—something in him had shifted. She had made him feel stupid. No one had ever done that before and instead of being pi

AmeliaWhy?Why did it have to be them? Of all the people we have in our class?I slumped in my seat, arms crossed, glaring at my desk as if it had personally wronged me.Out of all the students in this class, why did I have to be stuck with Blake, Catherine, and their little group? It was bad enough that I had to deal with Blake’s overinflated ego, but Catherine too? I could already tell she’d contribute absolutely nothing except annoying remarks and excessive hair flips.I sighed, trying to remind myself that this was just a school project. I didn’t have to like my group members—I just had to survive working with them for a month. The moment Mr. Dawson left the classroom, students began huddling together with their assigned groups. Some were already throwing around ideas, while others groaned about having to do any work at all. Then, of course, there was my group.Blake had immediately declared himself the leader—because of course he had—and stalked off to the teacher’s desk to get
